here is the mickey head I used as an appplique template.

I did this princess patchwork with a different princess on each square. Got the fabric at walmart. They may be a little small for panels.
th_DSC00399.jpg

I have some of that fabric left over from 2 years ago and was thinking of making a skirt like that. I love the way it came out!

OK ladies tell me what you think. I bought fabric today for my soon to be adopted daughter. :)
This is going to be a strip jumper shirt and the easy fit pants.

Lastly I was going through fabric and I have a ROAK. I will have my almost 3 year old draw a name out Sunday afternoon. :) I had bought it thinking that I would use it for a dress but I relized tonight there are no princesses who look like her and I would rather find something does. :) Anyway it is 2 yards of this fabric. If you are interested send me a pm.

Thanks for all your help with my tear, I got it fixed and here are some pictures of the finished product

Picture118.jpg

A close up of my correction. I ended up having to all the ribbon because (1) my hand sewing abilities could use a little work and (2) when I was ironing, my iron was too hot :sad2: and I ended up burning the fabric a little and the ribbon covers up most of it. I'm glad I'm done with this one!!!!!!!

Picture119.jpg

Now, I have to stop sewing and finish scrapbooking some calendars for Mother's Day so I can get those sent out before we leave in 8 days. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Emily

Good job fixing it! I find it funny that I found that same fabric and using the same pattern for it! We are making the shorts and omitting the bow.

Excellent save! Love it!

So wow I will not get caught up anytime soon.:surfweb:

I love all the new outfits! And :welcome: to everyone new...like I've been here for so long...:lmao:

For everyone that is  , hope you feel better soon!:flower3:

Anywho...been sewing all day. Made three pair of shorts for my DD and her BFF and her little sister. They are going to the zoo tomorrow. Decided late last night that they needed matching outfits...you people have made me an addict! So I made shorts and did little appliques with fraid edges. (Did I spell that right, or are my edges afraid of something?:confused3) I would love to show you a picture, but my DH has hidden the camera.:headache: Drives me nuts!!!!

SOOOOOOOOOO...everybody have a great weekend...I'm off to take my DD to a sleepover then DS to soccer practice then tomorrow am we have pictures for soccer at 8:20...don't they know it is Saturday? Then a house full of company the rest of the weekend...probably should have cleaned house instead of sewing. oops!;)

Sewing is sew much more fun than cleaning, though! :thumbsup2

I made my oldest DD's American Girl Doll a dress to match my DD's shirt. That dress was harder to make than the girls' sizes! It has been a good 10 years since I've done buttonholes so I was afraid of that but they came out good until I too had a small mishap with the seam ripper. I cut the thread of the buttonhole on one of the buttonholes. Not a huge deal since it is just for a doll but I've got to get a buttonhole cutter before I do the buttonholes on the girls' shirts!
th_Molly3.jpg

th_Molly1.jpg

Love it! After making Barbie clothes most of my life, I think clothing for American Girl dolls might be a tad easier. Sort of like Cabbage Patch Kids! :)

When cutting buttonholes, put a pin at the end of the buttonhole and your seam ripper will not cut beyond that. BTDT too!

How many posts do I need before I can add pictures and do the "quote" thingy??

Sue

Ten. I think someone already answered, though. Post count downs on this thread--you're almost there! :)

These are really cute !

Our Walmart remodeled and kept their fabric department. The other closest Walmart has a fabric department too. They are both Super Walmart stores. I am not sure it WalMart has any rhyme or reason to which stores keep their departments. I would complain to your local store.

I love the sock curls!
It turned out great I am so glad you were able to fix that tear. I like the ribbon added to it!

This is adorable! What is a buttonhole cutter look like? It sounds like something I could use.

Two of our regular WalMarts have rather barren fabric departments. The Super WalMarts have almost no craft/sewing items at all any more. One SuperWalMart store is new (it's an "abbreviated" Super WalMart--grocery and variety, but no garden shop or vehicle maintenance), and the other three have been remodeled. Perhaps there is a tiny bit of hope that the fabric departments might survive.

Not sure about contemporary buttonhole cutters, but mine looks like a mini-chisel. It's about 1/2 inch in diameter with a very sharp cutting edge and a short, rounded wooden handle. It also has a maple cutting block. You set the fabric over the edge of the block so part of the button hole hangs down the side and the rest is on the top of the block. You cut the portion on top of the block just to the bartack at the end of the buttonhole. Then reverse the positions and finish it. If it's a large buttonhole, you can cut the center, then do the ends.

Wow I am back from my traffic court!

Testifying was easy. The attorney asked me some questions and had me explain my pictures from the accident.
THen the police officer testified.

Then the truck driver testified and said that he couldn't see me because of the other pickup truck that had cut me off. He made some sort of comment that I had my dog on my lap. Yes, Sophie the 8 lb mini dachshund was curled up on my lap. Then the judge asked him if the dog was driving.:rotfl2:
THe truck driver was really rude and was saying how people speed down that road all the time and that they call the police all the time to get people to let the trucks out. and the Judge said I don't care what anyone else does driving down that road. THe point is that Ms. Daniel had every right to be driving down the road and you had no right to pull out and hit her.

So of course the guy was found guilty. Then they sentenced him. The attorney said first of all here is his prior record and the truck driver said what does that have to do with this!:scared1: THe attorney shuffled the papers and counted. The Truck driver had 20 moving violations and 7 license suspensions. Just since 1998.
THe judge just threw the book at him and sentence him to 12 months probation, the first 24 hours in custody. If he has one more moving violation he will have to serve his remaining time in jail. 64 hours community service, $750 fine and he can't drive for the first 15 days and then he can only drive for work for 60 days. So the truck driver left in handcuffs.
Both the judge and the prosecutor really chewed him out. I never expected anything like that to happen. I really don't know how this man is licensed to drive. I bet he can't go 12 months with out a moving violation and ends up in jail.

Yikes! Glad you won and he was reprimanded--quite royally! :)

It is adorable! And I'm not a fan of the colour pink!

I really like the blue/ocean theme fabrics. It can be for "everyday" if a special occasion doesn't present itself! :)

Here's my latest creation. We never seem to have the perfect outfit for downtown Disney, so I decided to create this one. I found the applique designs on YCMT and just altered them. The little mickey head on the girls shirt, and on the purse is a button. I'm happy with how it came out. It was fun to make, except that word Downtown. It took me a while to applique all of that.

Love the outfit! Very cute and perfect for DTD!

Your ideas sound terrific. Your biggest issue will be finding appropriate prints with a small enough repeat to be able to make small clothing. If it's too large, it will just get lost in the strip piecing.

One of the things I've seen in these threads and really like is the daytime version of princess dresses. They're made of cotton and are shorter with shorts or capris under them and much more suitable for the parks than the costumes. They use the same colors and general styling of the princess gowns, but "everyday" it. :)

Another possibility would be to make a placket and apply it over the buttonhole area--or remove the buttonhole area and replace it with the placket. You could use the same or coordinating fabric.

The easiest fix would be what the has already been suggested.

Oh! And add a buttonhole cutter to your wishlist! :)

Nice shirt! Glad your DS likes it! :)

Wow! :cool1:

Thanks for your help with the outfits. I don't think I'll make them "gowns" (mostly because I'm not that great at sewing!) but something casual that they can wear in the parks afterwards. On our last trip I bought smocked dresses that had Cinderella and the carriage smocked around the collar that were really cute. This time I'll make them something!

What a cutie! I love his new shirt- great job!!
16.gif
Khrystian!!!

It sounds like you need to go to the doctor now instead of waiting!

I love the shirts!

Do you have any more WalMarts around you? Some of them still carry fabric.

We have 4 WalMarts around us and the only one without fabric is a Super Walmart. The one with the best selection isn't a Super Walmart! I wonder if it's just a local thing.

What a great idea!!! It's SUPER cute!

:rotfl2: I used to be a nanny for a little boy who liked to shove sand in his ears- the more the better. He was only 18 months old when he did this and thankfully he outgrew it.

I wanted to stay around 25 pounds with Sawyer, like I did with Tessa. However, my body had other ideas and I gained 40lbs. Oh well, all that matters is that you're healthy and the baby is healthy! I'm glad the baby is being good for you! ;)

Yuck, the glucose stuff I had to drink for Tessa was FOUL! The stuff for Sawyer was much better, not as thick. Hopefully you'll have the not as awful stuff today!

Yeah, it was gross! Miss Cammie, this is for you! I drank it (in the 5 minutes like they said to, just like a good girl :rotfl2: ) and I kind of threw up a little in my mouth! I hate that!!!! I also knew that if I let myself throw up like I really wanted to they would make me do it again so I kept it down. It wasn't as thick as the first time but it's still disgusting! And afterwards I am nauseous and shaky. Glad it's over though! Everything else with the baby is fine. Looking at an induction date of 7/2 but I'm hoping she'll move it up one more day so I am not dismissed on the Fourth of July. I kind of want to see some fireworks!

Hey everyone! thanks for all the great compliments on my hair! Oh, and Steph, we cannot be twins, beause then I'd have to be the "smart" one, and I was the "smart" one all growing up, if YKWIM.

I'm really touched by how wonderful you all are here.  In college, I used to be barked at and I actually got taken as a date to one of those "Dog parties" or whatever they're called...you know what I am talking about?? the parties where the guy with the UGLIEST DATE wins? yeah. And I was 50 lbs lighter then, too.

I promised my Dh I would let my hair grow for at least another year. I had been cutting it with the beard trimmer for about 8 months before I started to let it grow out this past July. It's hard to get used to actually having to brush my hair in the morning....I used to just wash, towel dry, toss in some texturizing gel, and go. Now, I even own a hair dryer!! :rotfl2:

I love everything everyone has posted! I have sooo much to CASE when I get home!!

Oh, adn whoever made the black and white dress that her DH said looks like curtains.....I live just outside of NYC. That kind of fabric is the LATEST THING here, and a lot is made of it. I would pay LOTS of money to find a dress with that fabric in my size....and start charging your friends...at least the cost of the fabric and supplies. hey are takign advantage of you. That's why I started my business....EVERYONE wanted a bag, and I was not getting any of MY stuff done.

have a GREAT WEEK everyone!!

Okay, that is just mean about the dance thing. Where did you go to school? And by the way it is so not true! I hope you know and believe that now!

I was thinking for the Chef Mickey outfit, why not put Mickey on the shirt or make a stripwork jumper and put him on the bodice. Then have the other characters on the skirt. Here's a couple of Mickey Mouse cooking pics:
th_clipmickc1.jpg

th_clipmickcook1.jpg

You could do the same with Askerhus-just pick her favorite princess to stand alone on the top or bodice and put the others on the skirt.

Thanks so much for the clip art. I've been copying and saving some as I find it. I just hope I'm inspired enough to get the outfits done. I really appreciate everyone's help!

So that's what Khrystian looks like! ;) What a handsome boy!!! You did a great job on the shirt Misty!!! You should be very proud!

Linnette, go to the doctor!!! You have me worried!!! So, for my peace of mind, you need to go! NOW! ;)

The shirts look great. I'd love to be able to wear something that cute!

:welcome !! I hope you find a Walmart with fabric. Most of ours still have them. Even our brand new Super Walmart put one in, after they got so many complaints when people heard that they weren't going to have one! Complaining works!!!

Elisa, my goodness!!! That is so darling and clever!!!!! You come up with the cutest ideas! I love all that detail!!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am sick to my stomach just thinking about that horribly nasty stuff!! YUCK!!! ICKKY POO!!

The Dis automatically sensored the word for her. Aren't they helpful!

She does have a beautiful yard! Nice location too!

It's glorious weather!!!! I had my pant legs rolled up today too. Brian thought he might try that look out for himself! :rotfl:

Seriously Angela, looking at your pictures, that is really hard to believe!! You are so beautiful!! I hope you know that! Repeat after me, "I am beautiful!"

I think it is SO FUNNY that they censored that for her. What else do you call those trees? If she was being dirty it would be one thing but that is too funny! Heather you naughty girl!

First of all- :snooty:

Second, Megan's hair looks great! I'm seriously considering trying this on myself! I'm sure Henry will just LOVE me coming to bed looking like that!

Third, that girl of yours is too funny!

Okay, here you go talking dirty again....this is why you get censored. Henry and bed.............what will people think!!!:rotfl2:

here is the mickey head I used as an appplique template.
th_mickeyhead.jpg

If you need help with applique the applique tutorial in a previous post is how I learned. Using good materials (heat and bond LITE is a must) and a stabilizer is the key, plus paying attention to needle position when turning. She explains it really well in the tutorial. I am really flattered that you like it. I am fairly new at sewing too so don't be scared it's not that bad. You just have to take the plunge and try. If you mess up, it's only a little fabric. Recut and try it agian. I got that zebra fabric at Walmart. They had cheetah too.

I did this princess patchwork with a different princess on each square. Got the fabric at walmart. They may be a little small for panels.
DSC00399.jpg

That is very cute! Thanks for your help. I just have to get my rear end in gear and get sewing!

I made my oldest DD's American Girl Doll a dress to match my DD's shirt. That dress was harder to make than the girls' sizes! It has been a good 10 years since I've done buttonholes so I was afraid of that but they came out good until I too had a small mishap with the seam ripper. What is a button hole cutter and where do I buy it?

When cutting buttonholes, put a pin at the end of the buttonhole and your seam ripper will not cut beyond that. BTDT too!

How many posts do I need before I can add pictures and do the "quote" thingy??

Sue

You need ten posts for pictures but i'm not sure about the multi-quote. I think you can do that already. Just use the little + sign on the quotes and hit reply when you are ready.

Well you all know how much I love Minnie dot. Today was my day. I found 3.75 yards for 9.99 on :wizard: of course I bought that right away, and I went to el-walmarto, and found their smaller dot for 2 dollars a yard, so I bought all 10 yards. Let's hear it for me... yea me!! and no, I'm not sharing..laughing:

I'm jealous! Great deal!

Can I get your opinion? I saw these outfits, well the dress and top at Wallyworld today, and thought they'd be great for the cruise. I bought Lex a white skirt to go with her top, but it was awful, so she has on her white pants for the picture, any way, they looked nice at first, but the more I looked at them, the less I liked them...are they ugly? They still have the tags on, and can go back if needed.
IrelandandLexieChristmas20071717.jpg

I also wanted to add, that I bought Lexie's outfit big, because she will have grown by then, and if not, I can just take up the straps.
Oh yeah...we got out Kaiya Eve pettiskirt top, the ruffle one today in the mail...wha-hoo!

I think they are cute! I would keep them! Love the dress especially!

Wow I am back from my traffic court!

Love the fact that a person like this is driving a big truck around that can smash everyone! He must have been a real peach!

Picture117.jpg

The minute I saw this I said...Now that I LOVE!! So cute! I like those buttons and the satin trim on the back is perfect and the pants match perfect! Really cute!! I love that fabric- wish we had that at our walmart. but I bought enough disney stuff so now I cant really run out to buy more til I use what I've got.

Adorable! I finished reading thru all the directions, made my pattern and cut out the fabric- now I just have to start sewing. I think the only part that seemed a little confusing to me is the last step where you finish off the side seam to close it up. What did you say was important to remember to do??

I wanted to show buttons in better photo- DD loves these buttons

Today is the first time she has worn pig tails.

Can I just say- it is freekin beautiful here today!!!!!! I think the temp is 78- no humidity, clear, sunny. Ahh, Im in heaven!! Too bad it's supposed to be light rain on Sun (day of party)
I put together goodie bags (Ill take a pic if anyone wants to see)
I got these shaped cell-o bags
inside
-1 butterfly bubbles necklace
-1 big swirl lollipop
-1 smiley face stamp
-1cup with flexi straw with balloons on it
-1 whirly bird
-1 punch ball
-small can playdoh

Can I give these to the kids as they arrive? Im not doing any games or anything. I have like 12 adults and 6 kids coming. She is only turning 2 so its more of a adult gathering. Or should I give them out as they leave and let them just play with each other?
Ages of kids range from 7-11m, with several being almost 3 or 3.5

Edited to Add-----Oh and I need help with food suggestions-
Right now the plan is burgers and dogs
cake and ice cream of course
-potato salad, which my mother is bringing
Im having a brain fart- what else should I be offering?
some ppl are driving up to 2hrs to get here so I want to be sure theres stuff for everyone

Update on foster dog. She's doing great, no chewing disasters, no accidents, and just really sweet. Did I mention she is from southern LA? husband went to jail, wife leaving while he was in jail, I was told he was abusive to her (wife and Kayla)- but I was right about her Heartworm treatment- this vets office does the 2 month version of HW treatment and nobody told me or the contact this. I told them my hard stop was like May 24- because Im leaving for WDW the 29th and putting house on market when we return. She is up for adoption now and getting lots of inquiries and its only been 1 day.

I personally wait until they leave to give them the goody bags. I don't want them playing with the stuff in my house. I am imagining play doh everywhere! Oh, and for the menu, what about some chips and maybe a pasta salad or macaroni? I think it sounds fine as it is though!

Cute fabric! What a good Mommy!

Okay, that is just mean about the dance thing. Where did you go to school? And by the way it is so not true! I hope you know and believe that now!

Thanks everyone for the compliments. :lovestruc

I went to the University of Toledo in Ohio. I was a skinny tomboy from New York with a shaved head....I really didn't fit in there. I don't think many people looked past the shaved head. I grew it out after my engagement fell apart my Junior year, and suddenly started getting hit on, lol. Well, I got hit on before that, but mostly by other chicks...that's actually how I met one of my best friends from college...she HIT on me!! I still tease her about it. :rotfl2:

Ms_McKenna: Have you heard for sure about the adoption? I hope so! Do you need different princess fabric?? I think I still have some after the sale. I'll look when I get back!

Lori: I LOVE the new outfit!!

Everything looks awesome! I forgot a lot!!

Oh, my good friend just surprised my kids with new handmade outfits that they are wearing instead of one of the ones I made. I am bringing everything, just one outfit won't get worn....ok, we might not bring the pink ariel dress....it's too short.

I can't wait to see everything people make while I am gone!!

With all this talk about curlers, I thought I'd take a pic of DD's hair before it goes straight. This is just after a bath, before it got combed again...

Your DD is so cute in those piggy tails.

Glad to hear that the doggy is doing better. I hope she goes to the best home ever. I hate to hear it when doggies have a ruff start in life. Our little baby did. She had two different kinds of worms and was malnurished when we got her. Now she is perfectly healthy and spoiled out of her mind.

Just an FYI - Joann's has thread 50% off right now. And most of their fabrics are on sale too. They're having a big sale. I know this because Ihave been to different ones almost every day this week!! Yikes!!

I'm so jealous of all the JoAnn's trips. I REALLY want to go, but this week has been crazy & there's a birthday party in my yard tomorrow so I can't go then (it's a 45 min drive to JoAnn's). And, of course, they don't have any of the really good stuff online.

Be sure to put fray check on the threads to the button hole. I was taught to do it that way, and it's a step I never miss. Even though half the time my button holes look pretty bad. This dress looks really cute!
Thanks! Will add fray check to my list too!

Love those buttons! Love the pigtails!

I think once you get to that stage of the shirt you'll be able to figure it out better when you have your own shirt in your hands.

Here's what I did wrong on my first A-line. On page 14 where it clearly says to sew the opposite sides just be sure to read that. I just opened up my pattern to find the page for you and can not believe how clear it is.:rotfl: I guess I figured I knew what I doing and didn't read the words or look at the illustrations.

Found this on :wizard: Isn't it adorable!!The seller says it's a new fabric. Now I have something to look forward to!
Cute!

OK ladies tell me what you think. I bought fabric today for my soon to be adopted daughter. :)
This is going to be a strip jumper shirt and the easy fit pants.
th_sewing006.jpg

The darker blue to the left is going tobe the bodice and pants then the lighter is the ruffle and cuff , the rest will be strips. I am pretty sure when I get it back I will be adding hot air balloons to the bodice. It will be for her to wear to the Balloon Races Balloon Glow we have here every year.

This I just thought was cute not sure where she will wear it. The print with the ocean will be the skirt of the shirt. The blue will be the bodice and pants and then the rainbow the ruffle straps and cuff on the pants.

Love those fabrics! That princess fabric is really cute!

With all this talk about curlers, I thought I'd take a pic of DD's hair before it goes straight. This is just after a bath, before it got combed again...

and after combing...

I really hope her hair stays this way when she grows up.
Beautiful!

How about after the party Saturday? I went the last 2 Saturdays nights and it is so quiet!

This looks like what you've described:

Okay so seriously...I would fail the glucose test. I simply can't NOT throw up gag inducing thick liquids...even typing that makes me gag a little bit.

So is this test a MUST? Is there another way to test for it? What would happen if one was going the "totally natural", taking prenatal vitamins and that's IT as far as medical intervention route? I've been reading y'all...I've been reading about how women are CONVINCED that this or that test is "necessary" when really it's just for the doctor to keep his rear covered and his malpractice insurance prices down...so women are told things that are scary sounding and made to feel like they have to submit to unnecessary testing and needle sticks and exams and such.

this freaks me out.

I don't like being fibbed to and I don't like being a pin cushion so the doctor can have lower insurance premiums.

am I just a nut?

I had kidney problems when I was little and i was in and out of hospitals and a total pin cushion for big mean jerk face doctors who would say something wasn't going to hurt and then it DID...just another issue that makes the MissCammie Personality Soup!

Has anyone seen the Ricki Lake documentary "The Business of Being Born"?

I may go the hippie "Don't touch me" route.

:hippie: :flower3:

They have a very sugary orange soda stuff I drank. it's not too horrible.

I think it is an important test. if you have G.D., it can be life threatening.

I hate hospitals, but Ihad both kids in the hospital...I had very few signs of a problem with my first (except for some pre-term labor, but that was back spasms from a prior condition kicking off contractions).....I QUICKLy went into a life threatening situation, and the docs and hospital saved my life.

yep. I'm biased....:rolleyes1

HI everyone! I know I haven't been on much lately, but just thought I would answer! I, too, am EXTREMELY afraid of needles. As a child I would have to be held down by several people even to just have my finger pricked! I am an EXTREME scaredy cat!!!!!!:scared1: So I totally understand! The glucose test is necessary, because it test for gestational diabetes! I didn't have it with my first, but I did have it with my second. However, not all of the test are necessary, and I always discussed them with my doctor and I would then decide whether or not to have them done! So you don't have to have all of the test. You can discuss them with your doctor but it is ultimately up to you!

I can understand how you feel, eventually you just get over the whole "intervention" thing. I felt the same way, I wasn't sick, but felt like I was being treated as such. Anyway, the stuff they make you drink, acutally is over sugared soda. Some places have your choice of orange, sprite, or cola. It's not too bad, it just gave me a flushed face feeling.

The tests seem unnecessary, but for me I liked having the peace of mind that all was ok. Miscarriages and preemies run rampant in my family so I liked knowing that my baby was going to be ok. JMO.
