Help please-

I HAVE been reading everyone's awesome posts- and I was so intrigued about the daughters of china -poster story. but no time for that. I have an outfit to finish TODAY for DD's birhtday

And thank you to everyone really sweet comments about DD's newborn pic!

I finished the pants- I did the rick rack- I really like it- and it goes perfectly with the reversible Aline (the inside thats peeking out)

Question-
I need to create some type of fastener sytem to the tabs at the shoulders- how do you do this and keep it reversible?? Ill go back and reread where she talks about it- but I just am not getting it. It seems like whichever way I look at it- something about it doesnt make it truely reversible- and these fabrics were not cheap, so it NEEDS to be reversible. LOL

Eyore4Ever149 - love the fabric and the whole outfit is adorable!

Flea - that fabric is awesome! I don't have any ideas what you could use that fabric for but I think it was make some amazing outfits (in addition to a super cute comforter set!

mommyof2princesses - I  this! So cute!

SallyfromDE - that fabric rocks! I didn't even notice the mickey heads or the minnies and I love it all the more for it! I may have to find some of that... nice find!

Stephres - thank you too! the new haircut looks great! I love it!

dean556 - you've had a busy week! hope the move goes alright. good luck!

I'd love to adopt some of our children. My husband needs some convincing but I'm working on it. I love hearing the adoption stories.

I use snaps. of course I use snaps on just about everything because I hate buttons.

I could tell her my adoption story-NOTHING is as scary as that!:lmao:
The "highlight" was the "delivery" 22 HOURS on a plane with a REALLLLLLLLY mad 4 year old who kicked the seat in front of her for 12 HOURS!!!!!! non-stop.

AND I had her picture for 2 YEARS before I could go get her. (How's THAT for a long "pregnancy"?

ohhhh the story I could tell ::rolleyes1

We talked to an attorney in August and had a birth mom in October-Rie was born in February. I always say my labor lasted 6 months!

Isn't it strange how much our adopted children can be like their parents? I always say that it's just another confirmation that God had chosen us to be family. My DD is the same way! She walks like me, she has the same allergies, we even have the exact same birthmark. Now THAT is eery! I cried the first time I took off her socks and found her little brown speckle dot on her left heel. Isn't God amazing!

EDIT - Cindee, I meant to quote you here, but somehow it disappeared?

Our daughter Rie, looked just like our son Philip. She's adopted, he's not! Yep, God is amazing!:)

I just want to say that I have been trying my best to keep up with everything. I have been so busy lately that I haven't had time to do any sewing, but I am so jealous of all your lovely designs! Right now I guess I have been a lurker.

I will comment on the birth stories! I have 4 kids, & I will say that everyone is different & every pregnancy is different. I loved being pregnant until the very end when I was huge & felt like my body was not mine anymore. But it was so very worth it everytime. I am extremely grateful that I have been able to have these beautiful kids, as I know there are so many out there that cannot, for whatever reason. I was lucky, as I had not complications other than being anemic, which was pretty scary, but luckily it never affected me in any way. I never had any of the extra tests done to check for problems with the baby, because we always knew we would deal with whatever we were given. The glucose test was always my favorite, but it did make me a feel a little sick one time, but that's alot of sugar on an empty stomach.

Good luck with all the babies & have fun sewing.

I love the Ginger Blossom prints and the ones you picked are some of my favorite. What's cool is I kind of know the woman who designed that line. She previously sold custom boutique on eBay and said her designs were created with children's clothing design in mind. She also is creating a line of patterns (I think). Oh, I also heard rumors that at least some of the Ginger Blossom prints will be available as corduroy later this year, I'm guessing in time for fall.

This would be gorgeours in corduroy - let us know if you hear any more!!!

I've been diabetic since I was 10 seen I bypassed the glucose test when I was pregnant. I did have to put up with twice weekly hospital visits for the last 12 weeks which was a pain. I had a planned C-Section as they were expecting a whopper - Hope was smaller than expected but still 9lb 3!!

This is her in todays effort.....

How do you clever ladies manage applique on store bought jeans? I loved the downtown pair posted earlier and went off with visions of adding circles up the leg from my left over fabric but gave up as it was so bloomin' hard just getting the cuffs on! I guess I need to wait a few more years for bigger legs!!!!

Open one seam on each leg. I prefer to open the inseam because I like to be able to have my applique go around the leg without a noticeable seam on the side. However some people open the outer seam since it's usually not top-stitched. Once you're done with the applique, just stitch up the seam as close to the original stitch line as possible and finish the seam as you like.

First I'll say that I haven't made a reversible top like that. However, what I'd do is put the buttonholes on the top of the front as with any garment. On the straps, I'd use flat buttons on each side (2 buttons on each strap). That way I could button it the same way no matter which side is out. One thing that might be an issue is the buttons on the inside being irritating to sensitive skin on the chest or adding too much bulk to those areas of the top.

I hope that made sense.

I have been a lurker and totally inspired by these threads. I have been sewing since I was very young and was so excited to have two girls to sew for.

QUESTION...
What do you sew with flannel? I usually just make PJ/lounge pants, but would like other ideas.

Thanks!

Just wanted to share my newest dress! Thanks for letting me share! I just love this site and all of the awesome designs!

This is also made from a shower curtain that I got on Clearence at Target a while back for $4.99! lol

Oh and I have had lots of ? About where I got the Winnie the pooh sheet. We have this store called Gabes, which is a discount store that sells seconds. I bought it there for $4.99. It included a pillowcase and the fitted sheet. I know you can find them on Ebay. I will be going back next week and if you would like for me to pick one up for you, just let me know!

Candice
Candice...that is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Wow! I got really behind here. You ladies had a burst of sewing energy!

The good news is that I am finished with my garage sale! I got rid of a bunch of the junk in my house. Now I have to put my house back together after a week of neglect, but that should be easier now that we have soooooo much less crud! I am donating everything that I didn't sell to the bus drivers garage sale that they are having next weekend so I don't even have to bring any of it back to my house!

I can't wait to get sewing again! I have soooo many things on my "to do" list so I plan on being a busy little sewer this week. I am going out with some friends tonight for a girls night out, and then tomorrow after I get the girls at Grandma & Grandpas I am going to clean my house up so Monday is going to be all about sewing!

Hey cool on the sale.....now get sewing so we can see you next beautiful creation!!! Hahahah! :lmao:

TOTALLY AMAZING!!!!! People say our DD is just like me too!!!

Here is the latest for DD.

Aww this is cute, just like your daughter.

I made a winter dress for Jenna a couple of years ago. It had a matching fleece coat that was lined on the inside with the same flannel. It turned out really cute and very warm. Other than that all I have made is PJ's.

Shannon, you are so RIGHT!!!!!!! I would not trade a moment (well maybe 12 hours of it LOL). The first time I saw her little face in person........ :cloud9: EVERYTHING I went through was worth it. And I would do it again (but NO ONE is allowed to remind me I just said that LOL)

CampbellScot- My DD is from China. She has been home for almost 3 years (where did the time go?). Yes, after the first few days (LOL) we are very bonded. She is so much like me it is scary sometimes-we even have the same allergies!

As you can tell I am always willing to talk about adoption!

I will have to dig up the first picture taken at the airport here in the states, those that have seen pics of my DD will get a BIG kick out of the "transformation" LOL

I always love reading adoption and birth story. My DH was adopted from South Korea when he was 2 yrs old, and I also have a cousin who was adopted.

Here is the latest for DD.

Thanks for looking!

Beautiful, so is your dd.

Was natural childbirth horrible? My mom had all three of us naturally and said it wasn't as bad as the woman in the next bed was "carrying on" about. :lmao: Yeah...semi private birthrooms... My mommy is a tough Southern lady. She said she just prayed and kept reminding herself that "This too shall pass". She also thinks that b/c she had such horrible menstrual cramps growing up that giving birth was not that far of a stretch. As I inherited those cramps, I think I know what she means. Mom always said that she had cramps worse than when she had me. :rotfl:

I had planned on having my dd without an epidural, but after I was induced, decided that I needed one...and with my ds, I had every intention of getting one but things move so quickly that there wasn't time for one...ds was ready to enter the world, and was almost delivered by the nurses...so I had him without an epidural and you know what...as soon as they put him in my arms, I immediately forgot about the pain! It was so worth it!!

I just made DD a reversible A-line top, and I put flat buttons on both sides. It seemed to work well.

This is off-topic...Have anyone here been to a "Rooms To Go" store (www.roomstogokids.com)? One opened up really close by, and dh and I decided to go and check out their Rooms To Go Kids section since we have been wanting to get some furnitures for dd's and ds's room. They have Disney furnitures, and my ds loves the Disney CARS bed and he kept going back to it! There is also a Cinderella Carriage bed, but my dd loves the Castle bed (it's not really Disney though, but I think it will fit really well in a Disney Princess themed room!). Cute stuff!

We have that shower curtain in the kids bathroom! I just called Erin over to look at it and she gushed about it. LOL!

I love this. What pattern did you use?

Thank you everyone! I used Butterick 3860. It was a little challenging sewing the armholes together with the facing but I got it done. I used the same pattern for the dog cartoon PJs but added a ruffle to the bottom of the top.

That turned out so cute and I love seeing pictures of Hope, she is such a beautiful baby!

I know this post was from a few days ago, but yes Utah has a brand new Disney Store. It's at University Mall in Orem. Just thought you might like to know. ;)
Are you a Utahn hiding out on us? Looks like I need a road trip! And I just passed by that mall last weekend :sad2:

And Candice, I LOVE the monkey dress!

I made a Buzz A Line top today and demin shorts with Buzz cuff. I'm really happy with it as is DD.

Then I made the Simply Sweet Nemo top. I'm not really thrilled with it. Do you guys use an under lining? It seems so bulky. And the straps were too long. I ended up just tacking them in the back. Maybe I'll be happier with the whole thing after I make matching capris.

Sorry no photos. I'm exhausted.

I love the simply sweet top. I use a LIGHT underlining ie light muslin ect. It cuts down on the bulkyness. If I am using a particulary bulky fabric I skip it. I kinda like that it has some substance to it.

On another note I just had to share that my DD wore one of my creations to a birthday party for my cousin's child today. It was the frist time she had worn something I had made anwhere other than walmart ect. I got a lot of compliments and one girl said "You MADE that I just assumed it came from Tiny Town." which is a local botique. It made me feel good so I just had to share. I was kinda nervous about letting her wear something I made since I'm new at the whole sewing thing.
