Well, I said that I probably wasn't going to sew anymore for my niece but I just finished The Incredibles outfit for her. She is having an Incredibles b'day party @ Chuck E Cheese the weekend after Easter and I made this as a surprise. I am also going to make her a Pink Panther outfit as part of her b'day present. If she doesn't wear these outfits, then I am not making anymore for her.

Anyways....

Here is my niece modeling her new outfit

Incredibles3.jpg

Trying to twirl -- she had to hang on b/c she nearly fell (she isn't the most coordinated child).

Incredibles2.jpg

Close-up of the applique.

Incredibles4.jpg

The applique did not turn out as well as I wanted but it will have to do b/c I AM NOT doing it over (especially if she isn't ever going to wear it again). When I got it out for her to try on she said "hey, I can be Violet Incredible". That made me feel better about it. When I first started doing the skirt, I thought the whole outfit was going to be a hideous mess and be too boyish but I think it turned out pretty cute and am pleased.

I think it turned out cute! I really like how you did the kinda peek a boo section on the front of the skirt. You did great!

That is sooo cute! I cannot let my 4yo see this or I will be casing it! She LOVES the incredibles!

I just finished the outfit for my "Bestest Friend in the Whole Wide World"'s little girl. I decided to go with princess instead of Dora. It turned out pretty cute, but I haven't got a picture yet. I'm thinking of going all out and making matching socks and bows, too.

Weight loss: I loss the 1/2 pound I gained last week, so that's a start!

Oh my goodness, she just keeps getting cuter! I love both outfits, but that bunny a-line is just TOOO cute! I think you should keep the clothespins and start a fad! :thumbsup2

I LOVE IT! The fabrics are fan-tastic!!! Norah is looking absolutely beautiful, as usual. You've probably already figured out what to do with the bottom, but I'm really liking your pom-pom trim idea!

Hey everyone! I am fairly new to the DISboards. My name is Danielle, I'll be 23 next month. My husband is in the army and is currently deployed. I have a 19 month old little girl named Violette Bleu and we live in Fayetteville NC. We are planning our trip to disneyworld for Sept when my husband comes home for his R&R. I love boutique clothes and have been making tutu dresses for my daughter Violette. That's the only thing I know how to make. I don't know how to use a sewing machine but really want to learn. I want to make Violette some cute little sundresses and outfits for the trip. Can't wait to chat with you ladies. You seem like a fun group!
:welcome: Danielle! Your daughter's name is beautiful! We need to see pictures of her in a tutu dress (I'm a little behind, so you may already have posted one)!!

For the bottom, what about one of those ruffles like Heather just used on the HK dress out of the dark fabric with the blue ric rac (from the top) down the middle where it's gathered?
I just have to say how flattered I am that you thought that was cute enough to suggest someone else do it! I also considered putting ric-rac down the middle of the ruffle. I still might.

Ohh, I almost forgot. My recurring dream: I just had it last night in fact. I am driving in the car and I step on the brakes and nothing! Then I usually slide off the bridge or embankment or whatever. Usually a bridge and into the ocean. I have to try my hardest to wake up before we hit the water so I don't have to worry will I get the window down, seat belts unbuckled and everyone out of the car before we all drown. I wish I knew of a way to make it stop!
THAT is a horrible dream!!! That is one of my irrational fears. I'm always afraid I'm going to end up in a lake in my car. I play it over in my head- how will I get the kids out of their car seats, the windows open, and how will I swim while hanging on to both of them.

I have this dream too and I think about "what I will do" everytime I go over a bridge. And, on a sad note -- this actually happened to my cousin several years ago. He was heading into town during the wee hours of the morning and something happened (we think he fell asleep but we will never know for sure) and his truck went off the road before the guardrail started for the river. His truck had plunged into the river. A fisherman heard what he thought sounded like a vehicle going into the river but he didn't see, nor did anyone else. The fisherman went to check it out and called the authorities but there wasn't any evidence that an incident had happened, just what he thought had happened. They finally decided to call in some divers but it was too late. My cousin had drowned while trying to get out. This was a fear of mine before but became even worse after this actually happened.

I also have the dream that I can never remember my locker combination (I was always forgetting it for real in hs) and I can't get my stuff out for class and I always get F's b/c I don't have any of my work to turn in!

Thank you! I of course think she is ADORABLE! But I could be a little bias! Can't wait to see what you have made, I am sure it is fantastic as usual! YAY for you on your weight loss! I actually weighed myself this morning and I have already lost the two pounds I had gained as of Wed morning! I must say that the bridge thing is a BIG fear of mine!!!!! I think you should always roll down your windows while driving over the bridge so that is one less thing you had to do if it ever happened!

Oh my goodness, that's adorble!! I love how it matches her name, too! She is a little doll!

Since I'm sharing, I think it was Teresa who asked about my name stories, so I'll share those, too.
http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=844622

Whew! That was very long-winded! Sorry!
Thanks for sharing your name stories! I think you chose just the right names! I love the scrapbook page, it's so pretty! I was worried that Tessa or Sawyer wouldn't look like the name we had picked out (we knew the sex at around 20 weeks). But Tessa looked just like a Tessa and Sawyer looked just like a Sawyer!

That is adorable, too!

On a related note, we have a family wedding this summer. I was thinking of making both Lauren and I coordinating dresses - something in a floral print for me and something coordinating but not matchy-matchy. DH says we will look dorky. What are your thoughts?
What do husbands know? I think it would be really cute to match. I want to try and match the kids at Disney while we're there, too!

My goodness, ladies! You all make me feel mighty guilty for buying matching t-shirts for our Disney trip instead of making them! I thought I was so cool to do some iron-on transferables on the back! The dresses and outfits are inspirational and you each are so encouraging to everyone!

Just lurking, but keep the photos coming. I guess I need more jealousy in my life!

With quadruplets I don't expect to be starting a new life in sewing, but maybe when they start school in a few years I can start a new hobby!

For names we had plenty of time to decide as I was on bedrest the whole pregnancy, but I also had a lot of rules since I had taught in elementary schools for 12 years. It had to be short, easy to spell, no way to shorten it, and not stand for something else. For the boys, middle names were family names: Edward, David, and James. For Ella, her middle name is inspired by the U2 song, "Grace" but that is how we felt after a long infertility road and finally being blessed with 4 children! Ella's name is a family name and the boys are names that met my criteria and weren't associated with a less than stellar student from my past...*ahem* so Jack, Sean and Mason made the cut.

So there you go. Thanks for sharing all your amazing creations!!!!
:welcome:!!! We need to see some pics of your kiddos! Thanks for sharing your name stories.

Since I've never sewn before, do you think it would be best to get a nice little sewing machine used that doesn't have a million features. Someone is selling a 16 stitch singer on craigslist for $50 that normally sells for $100. It's only been used once. Is that a good deal?
That sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

Well I guess that girl thought she was ugly in my clothes!!!! So that mean girl influenced everything and I am glad she is out of that school!!

Lori
It must have broken your heart to read that in her diary! Poor Anastasia. I'm so glad she's happy in her new school. It sounds like you made the right decision.

My niece was getting beat up by a little boy every day at school when she was in 2nd grade. My SIL is deaf and a little slow, so she had a hard time communicating the problem to the principal. So, I called the principal and let her know about the situation. She just said "Kids will be kids." I informed her that my niece had bruises and scrapes on her every day from this boy, and that he was even punching her in the stomach. She just let me know that the teacher can't watch them ALL the time. GRRR!!!! I'm so glad Tessa will be going to a different elementary school. Thankfully, the little boy was transferred to a different class and Casey didn't have to take his abuse anymore.

Oooh, I am so glad she is now in a happier place! A couple of weeks ago my neighbor, who has a daughter in DS8's class told me that another neighbor boy in the class had slugged Seth in the stomach at recess and he was doubled over in pain. I asked Seth about this and he said "oh, yeah, he did. It doesn't hurt anymore". This is a boy who has been picked on a lot, mainly because he has had a significant speech problem (which is much better now, but he still gets picked on). I wrote a note to the teacher and she wrote back "It seems that both of them got a little wild at recess. I talked to both of them about it."So I talked to the neighbor girl again and she said "no, Seth wasn't doing anything, Jase just punched him"
That makes me SO mad! If we can't be there to protect our kids, we rely on the school to do it for us!

Seeing pictures of your kids always makes me smile. They just look so incredibly sweet! They all look so cute in their outfits! It's great to see a picture of you, too!!

Look at that little cutie!! Great job on his pj's. I really like that "10 minute applique"!

Tessa said "I just love Luke's pajamas so much that I can't even look at them. I love Madagascar!"

Adorable! I love that it's reversible and I like the ric-rac!

I'm in major house cleaning mode right now - we might be moving (3rd time in as many years), so I'm dusting crown molding and trying to somehow organize Louie's toys. We have a pepto-bismal pink bathroom that needs to be toned down, so I think I'm going to be doing some sponge painting. I'd love to do a pink and brown toile/preppy theme in there. Funny thing is, I only bother to decorate when we need to sell a house. Otherwise, I just live with ugly - LOL!

Oh - and baby names! I wanted to quickly share where we came up with the name Louie :) . My husband's name is Delmar - he is named after his dad. My father's name is Louis. Originally, we were going to name our little guy Delmar Louis. One day, my husband said "you know, my father already has a namesake - let's give your dad one. " So we flipped it, and Louie is Louis Delmar  .

Carla
I feel your pain on the moving thing! We move quite a bit, too. Henry builds a house, we live in it for a few years, then we build another one. I'm planning on staying here for a while, though. I never get around to decorating the house how I like it.

Thanks for sharing DS's name story! He has such an original name, very cute!

That is adorable! How do you all does those pretty appliques and embroidery?? Do you have a special machine?
Some people have an embroidery machine that they do the appliques on. Others, like myself, do them by hand. You can do applique on any machine, as long as it has a zig-zag stitch. It just tends to look more perfect on an embroidery machine (I really, really, want one!!).

Hi All...I'm just posting to subscribe to this thread, I don't want to miss anything! LOL. I've been reading Disboards for a long time, but never looked at this thread before...for some reason I thought it was a shopping thread!:confused3 But now that I know it is a sewing thread....I'll be reading all the time!!

I love the adorable outfits that you've all been making for your kids (and yourselves). I'm not a huge garment sewer, but I am a heavy duty quilting addict!!

I have an 11 yo DD anda 5 yo DS. When DD was little I made her a few outfits, but I think that now she wouldn't be caught dead in something I could make. I just pointed out a picture I saw with a cute dress made from a tank top and she said "NO WAY". Sigh. Oh well.
:welcome: I'm not looking forward to the day when Tessa doesn't want me to make her anything! I think the intent of the original disboutique thread was to post pictures of the kids wearing the clothes you'd bought them on ebay. But, us sewers kind of took over!

:snooty: WHAT EVVVERRRRRRRRRR! :snooty:
You shouldn't lie to people like that.

I could have friends too, if I wanted to! :snooty: I just don't want the trouble!
I'm not sure what you are referring to, as far as lying, but :snooty: to you, too!!
I have specified in the past, that Jenny is my best FRIEND. Sisters, moms, and husbands are in a totally different, higher, category. :lovestruc

I also made this for DD today. It is a YCMT pattern. It actually took me 15 minutes to make this.
th_S2010094.jpg
Your DD looks beautiful in her new outfit! Are you serious that it only took you 15 minutes. Wow! I'm hoping you aren't including the time it took you to cut the fabric!

Luke looks adorable!!!! I showed Lydia this picture and told her that it was Tessa's Luke. Brian, sitting across the room said, "WHAT? what did you say???" So I told him that Tessa said she is going to marry Luke (she told me that Friday). So, Brian asked Lydia what she thought of it, and I swear Lydia had that look on her face that Luke gets when he sees a picture of Tessa! It was so cute!
So, now Uncle Brian knows all about Luke too!
:rotfl2:

That looks so cute! Perfect that his name is Andrew! My ds would love that room!

I am so very jealous of this bookcase. I dream of building one in our new home.

WOW! His room looks fantastic and I think the cake looks great! Good job on everything!

Wow, you're very crafty! I like the cake, I think it's really good, I suck at cake making :(

DROOL! Amazing! I can't believe you actually made that! Will you come to my house and play?

Sure!

WOW!! You are multi-talented!! I am totally jealous of your bookcase.

Thank you, everyone! That cake was a pain in the butt to put together (and actually have it stay together). I swore I would never make another, but if she asks I probably will.

My son was sooooo picky when we were decorating his room. He didn't like any of the cowboy or western looking comforters that we saw, but he really liked that red fabric, so I decided to just make it. It's really cuter in person than it looks in that picture.

That bookcase was so fun to build. When we were having our house built, we asked about having one built. Well, they were wanting $3500 for one less than half that size (only four feet high) and much simpler. It would have been just straight across and not have the different height shelves. I don't know if you can tell, but the right side is filled with part of my husband's cd collection. I think I actually laughed when they gave me the quote. I had just got a compound miter saw for Christmas that year, so I decided it was time I put it to use. I think for my first big project, it turned out really well.

Well, I said that I probably wasn't going to sew anymore for my niece but I just finished The Incredibles outfit for her. OH!!! That is so cute.

Okay, I'm off to do some sewing, so my next pictures can actually be of that!

I'm all caught up and I have pictures to share after I post another obnoxiously long multi-quote!

Brian just told me a cute story, so I had to share it!

Arminda's school had a pie social last night. Mom and Heather came too. While we were in the cafeteria eating our pie and ice cream, Brian was sitting at the end of the table with Lydia and Tessa. Brian said Tessa looked over to Lydia and said, "No one has ever has as good as friend as you, Lydia." I believe they then hugged.

Isn't she a sweet heart!! :lovestruc

(and just to make sure I heard it right, I asked Brian if Tessa meant that Lydia was the good friend, and he said she had!)
And, because it is technically Thursday, and our weigh in day, I'm going to post my loss for the week!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!4.2 POUNDS!!!!!!!!
   Thanks in part to the teeth thing, and partly to actually being careful this week!

That girl of mine is so sweet! :lovestruc

4.2 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH...MY...GOSH!! That shelving is absolutely gorgeous!! LOVE IT!!! DS's room is adorable, great job on that! I think your castle cake is really cute, we're always harder on our own creations, I think!

I bought my 1st sewing machine today! Yay!! I have no clue how to use it  but I'm enthusiastic to learn! It's a Singer Simple machine. Very basic. I just love children's boutique clothes so much. I'd love to get good and make a little at home business out of it since I stay at home with my daughter. Does anyone know of any good online tutorials?
YAY!!! Just check out the bookmarks for lots of free tutorials. There is a category called "Learn To Sew Sites" that has some great information for beginning sewers. That's how I learned!

That is (wait for it) INCREDIBLE!!! I really do love it! It's so original and cool! What a great idea to make a skirt with the colored strips. I am in awe of your creativity! :worship:

That's one of my irrational fears also. That and someone hitting the side of my car where the backseat is. If that ever happens though DD is sitting in her carseat in the middle of the seat.
I used to have Tessa's car seat in the middle of the car, but now that I have 2 kids, the seats have to go on either side. I used to have them right next to each other, so at least one of them was in the middle, but with Tessa's new car seat, they won't fit that way. My husband paints cars and he says that way more cars are hit on the passenger side than the driver side. So, if you have to put a kid on the side, put them on the driver side. :thumbsup2
Yes, I've put way too much thought into this, too!

I have this dream too and I think about "what I will do" everytime I go over a bridge. And, on a sad note -- this actually happened to my cousin several years ago. They finally decided to call in some divers but it was too late. My cousin had drowned while trying to get out. This was a fear of mine before but became even worse after this actually happened.

How sad about your cousin. That's just awful.

I think you're probably right about being harder on ourselves. But... man, when I was planning that cake, it looked far more fabulous in my head! :rotfl:

Thanks!

First, I wanted to post this picture of Tessa's Build-A-Bear wearing the "Sew Boutique for Dolly and Me Simply Sweet Dress". It matches Tessa's Birthday/Easter Hello Kitty dress.
Tessa took this picture herself!

Second, here is the incredibly cute daughter of my "Bestest Friend in the Whole Wide World", who is turning 3. She's the one who will be wearing the princess dress:

Thank you!!! The fabric was a sheet in it's former life! :rotfl2:
I bought it last year on disneyshopping.com and posted pictures of the sheet set on here. I think at the time people thought I was weird for buying sheets for fabric. My, how things have changed around here! :lmao:

Well, I said that I probably wasn't going to sew anymore for my niece but I just finished The Incredibles outfit for her. She is having an Incredibles b'day party @ Chuck E Cheese the weekend after Easter and I made this as a surprise. I am also going to make her a Pink Panther outfit as part of her b'day present. Trying to twirl -- she had to hang on b/c she nearly fell (she isn't the most coordinated child).

You definately have good reason to be "pleased" and very proud also! I think this could be very CASE-able...;) tee hee It is REALLY Cute!! VERY Unique! Nana

Okay, lots to say...

First, since it's weigh in day and I actually went to WW this morning to weigh in, I'm happy to say that I'm down...

3.0 POUNDS!

Teresa and Spongie, I hope you are both feeling better or are at least enjoying what the oral surgeon sent you home with. :teleport: That was the best I could come up with for a feeling loopy smiley.

I have to make a farm type outfit for Delaney now by the 22nd. I just found out that Buck Howdy is playing at a local coffee house on the 22nd. If you've got a preschooler and they watch Noggin, it's the guy who sings the song about Buttercup Farm (which incidentally is a real place about an hour from me) the Bah, Neigh, ****-a-doodle song. I'm singing it right now in my head, it's a very scary place to be. :lmao:

Anyway, I digress, I'm thinking about a peasant top and a pair of decoupage jeans. Can someone give me a quick tutorial on doing them? Any tricks or pit falls to watch for or do you just make the shapes, zig-zag around the shape leaving a little outside the zig zag to fray?

My dad got my shelves up yesterday and I've started putting together the sewing area, so I guess I'll really have to get it moving if I'm going to be sewing this week.

Delaney is begging for cookies and I find myself typing what she's saying instead of what I'm trying to type so I'll try again later when the voices stop.

Love the outfit! It came out Great!:thumbsup2

I made the peasant dress and topped it with the "Simply Sweet" jumper:

Here's Tessa modeling it. :rotfl2: Tessa and Ryen (girl in above picture) have the exact same chest measurement, so I figured she could try it on for the pictures. It's a bit short on her though!:rotfl:

ETA: If you notice an extra white dog butt in the above pictures, that's Henry's grandma's PITB Westie that we're watching for the week while she suns on the beach in Cozumel.

I love the peasant dress. The fabric, or sheet, is great! :yay:

That is ADORABLE! I love it!

I was also going to ask about the fabric. It's so cute. Very clever use of sheets. Which pattern did you use for the peasant dress?
