My goodness, ladies! You all make me feel mighty guilty for buying matching t-shirts for our Disney trip instead of making them! I thought I was so cool to do some iron-on transferables on the back! The dresses and outfits are inspirational and you each are so encouraging to everyone!

Just lurking, but keep the photos coming. I guess I need more jealousy in my life!

With quadruplets I don't expect to be starting a new life in sewing, but maybe when they start school in a few years I can start a new hobby!

For names we had plenty of time to decide as I was on bedrest the whole pregnancy, but I also had a lot of rules since I had taught in elementary schools for 12 years. It had to be short, easy to spell, no way to shorten it, and not stand for something else. For the boys, middle names were family names: Edward, David, and James. For Ella, her middle name is inspired by the U2 song, "Grace" but that is how we felt after a long infertility road and finally being blessed with 4 children! Ella's name is a family name and the boys are names that met my criteria and weren't associated with a less than stellar student from my past...*ahem* so Jack, Sean and Mason made the cut.

So there you go. Thanks for sharing all your amazing creations!!!!:cool1:

Oooo we had this problem too - my mum is a teacher and I remember saying to her one day that we liked XXX (I cant remember what it was) and she just pulled ths face and eventually said it reminded her of a student she'd rather forget!!!

Since I've never sewn before, do you think it would be best to get a nice little sewing machine used that doesn't have a million features. Someone is selling a 16 stitch singer on craigslist for $50 that normally sells for $100. It's only been used once. Is that a good deal?

Let me say everyones outfits are fabulous the last day and a half. I have been a little absent , life has been busy.
too make a long - very long - story short.
My oldest Anastasia (7)has gone to private school for the past 4 years. since 3 yr preschool! And since Kindy year (last year) she has had one girl picking on her. calling her ugly, stupid. the usuall bad name things. then she started pushing her. Last tuesday there was a field trip to a zoo. I did not go - i usually do - but a friend went w/ her daughter and told me how this other girl just taunted anastasia. well I guess after a couple of minutes anastasia lashed out and told her to "shut up, stop picking on me!" then the little girl told the teacher how anastasia was yelling at her and being mean. well the parent stepped in and told what "really" happened. I call the school the next day and yeall and say how they should have solved this last year, why does a parent tell me thins and not the school. So that was Wed. Well I went in her room that night and read her diary. it tore my heart out. Anastasia has such a small worth of her self, saying she is stupid, she needs to be better so the girl will like her etc! WOW! So thursday I call again. That night she came home and said how the principal told her to be friends and play nice! I told her"you don't have to be friends with that girl!" she says the principals says she has to! I had enough. did not send the girls friday! Called a new school and they were so nice about it and agreed to accept her if she passed a test!
They called friday at lunch and said it was the highest they have seen on an entrance test in years and they would be happy to have her! They are a charter school with an accelerated learning like the private school!
I disenrolled monday and she started tuesday!
My baby is so happy now. She was happy when she came home tuesday and she made friends with a girl and she gave her a welcome to our school card! I am just so happy that this seems like the right thing. What was I spending that $9,000 for this year! To pick on my kid and do nothing! We are out of there! Jojo goes to there preschool and will for the last 7 weeks of school!
So last night she asks when I wil lstart sewing for her now. I told her she said she did not want me to anymore! Well I guess that girl thought she was ugly in my clothes!!!! So that mean girl influenced everything and I am glad she is out of that school!!

Lori

Lori, I am so glad you were able to switch schools! Some children are just holy terrors! Thank goodness you have a happy girl again! Now get sewing her and her new friend some fabulous creations!!!

I made the fully lined, reversible version of the Butterick 5019 pattern (altered)
This is some of the Hobby Lobby fabric I've been  about!

Front:

Now, here's where y'all can help me. I want to do something crazy and fun at the hem like hand-washable pom pom fringe. What do you think? I ran out of the darker print to do her pants with so I need to go back to HL soon!!

So far the bottom hem is just overcast stitched so it wont unravel. I'm thinking FUN trim because this is not from my "Everyday Collection". I love it so much I don't want her to wipe her boogers on it or get any food on it. WHY am I like this? :sad2: I'll have to think of a great occasion for which she can wear it!

here's my "invention". The patten calls for a little button in strap to hold thefront tight, I didn't like if very much so I made a little elastic strip instead!
4417e22d.jpg

Love it! I would do the roushed ruffle on the bottom with the aqua ric-rac. I think that would look great!

I am trying to think of other ways to close the front and back too! I have an idea in mind, and if I get time, I am going to try it!

I might have to use the elastic closure idea in the front though! It would still allow for movement and ease, yet, I wouldn't have to worry that it could come untied exposing something that it shouldn't! We are all about "modesty" here too!

Great photos too! I see you are trying to "artsify" them up a bit!;)

Oooh, I am so glad she is now in a happier place! A couple of weeks ago my neighbor, who has a daughter in DS8's class told me that another neighbor boy in the class had slugged Seth in the stomach at recess and he was doubled over in pain. I asked Seth about this and he said "oh, yeah, he did. It doesn't hurt anymore". This is a boy who has been picked on a lot, mainly because he has had a significant speech problem (which is much better now, but he still gets picked on). I wrote a note to the teacher and she wrote back "It seems that both of them got a little wild at recess. I talked to both of them about it." :headache: So I talked to the neighbor girl again and she said "no, Seth wasn't doing anything, Jase just punched him"

Ok...finally..hehe...Here are a few pics of the tutu dress I made for Violette for Halloween. She was a flower fairy.

That is darling! She doesn't look scared a bit!! Sorry I can't help about the sewing machine- I have one that was given to me as a gift.
SO, I went into Joanns today for one little piece of ribbon :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I don't know what happened, but among other things, I wound up with this:
I hope glorib doesn't mind if I CASE her by making a wrap skirt and pageboy hat for Lily?

th_IMG_1089.jpg
OOPs!! ;) That will super Cute!! Can't wait to see it.
On a related note, we have a family wedding this summer. I was thinking of making both Lauren and I coordinating dresses - something in a floral print for me and something coordinating but not matchy-matchy. DH says we will look dorky. What are your thoughts
Do it!! I think it will be cute!!
So last night she asks when I wil lstart sewing for her now. I told her she said she did not want me to anymore! Well I guess that girl thought she was ugly in my clothes!!!! So that mean girl influenced everything and I am glad she is out of that school!!

:sad2: :sad1: So Sorry she went through that!! So glad she likes the new school AND You get to make her pretty things again!!!

Glorib- Loved your name stories!! Thanks for sharing!!

Here are some pics of our WDW trip in February. The don't showcase my masterpieces :lmao: very well. I don't think about how the clothes will look in the pictures until I'm back home. The weather was wonderful – upper 70’s to mid 80’s every day.

Wendy & Peter Pan. DS2's first encounter with the characters on this trip. He wasn't scared of them! Whoohoo! The last time, he was terrified. DD6 and DD4 are wearing dresses my sister made. DS2 is wearing shorts I made. I also made the shirt, but he insisted on wearing his Mickey sweatshirt most of our stay.

At Tusker House. DDs are wearing their Tinker Bell dresses. I made these last summer.

Hollywood & Vine. DD5 has her Nemo outfit on I made in August. DD4 is wearing her Tinker Bell pillowcase dress.

Epcot. Girls are wearing their Nemo outfits.

DD4 on the boat to Downtown Disney.

More to come.....

Here we are meeting Cinderella in the Castle. This is Heidi's 6th birthday. She's wearing her Tinker Bell. Aleah has on her Minnie Mouse outfit.

I guess I need to bone up on my roushing skilz, then!

I am trying to be all artsy fartsy. Except, I need better lighting, badder camera/lens, better props. I did resist the big gulp cup full of fake daffodils being daintily "melled". My subject is a natural though, Which is scary.

The elastic strip works great but it's a little hard to put on. Her daddy would never figure that contraption out. It hold snug. My last one was made with the button strap closure and in a a undressing rush, the buttons were ripped out of their spots :headache:

Thank You Kell and Georgia!!
Luke loves his Madagascar (or as he used to call it (oscar oscar) p.j.s In fact they turned out so cute I'll let him wear them for "everyday clothes" if he wants (like right now because he won't take them off).

Yikes! Looks like someone's hair needs a trim. Why does it take a photo for me to realize this? :confused3 Poor boy can hardly see :rotfl:

I think it is rediculous these schools. I will say her teacher did a lot but the girl was very smart and knew how to get around a teachers watchful eye. The principal should have taken more action!!!! this girl I guess punched some other girl at there mosque over winter break!!!

I personally had a harder time when I first tried sewing with a less expensive machine. Threading and tension were tricky with no previous experience. Once I got my first computerized machine, I had much better luck, that may just be me though as I am mostly self taught.

I'm so glad you got things resolved and that she likes her new school, I never can understand parents that don't teach their children kindness. My kids were at a public playground the other day and I was watching them closely because at 1 and 2 years old, I don't always trust them to make the right decisions. A boy who was older than Gabi by about a year I would guess, kept kicking her in the back and pushing her on the slide. He swung around and hit her in the face, just super uncautious and pushy. I ignored it as Gabi is a big girl who simply looked at him and said "stop it that's not nice" well then he grabbed my one year old by both arms and tried to push him to the ground. I put one hand out on the kid's chest and said, "no, you can't push him" and his mom finally notices and then tries to get him to apologize and he ignores her hitting her and yelling at her. Then she gets embarassed so she starts yelling at me to keep my hands off her kid. I just told her politely that I didn't want to have to deal with her kid, but I'm not going to let him hurt my baby either. I did tell her the lesson she was teaching her son was not a nice one though :(

Sounds like you made the right choice. Thats great your dd has already made friends at her new school. I cant believe the old school did nothing. the teacher should have been talking to you. Smart choice to move her! :cool1: And YEAH for getting back in your clothes!!!

Here's Gabi's new outfit, she'll probably wear a tee shirt under the top when we go to Disney as she is so pale and burns so easily. I also am making them a bit big for now as we don't go until September :)

Hi all!

I'm loving all the new creations (and eating up the sweet compliments on my patterns - THANK YOU)!!!

I'm in major house cleaning mode right now - we might be moving (3rd time in as many years), so I'm dusting crown molding and trying to somehow organize Louie's toys. We have a pepto-bismal pink bathroom that needs to be toned down, so I think I'm going to be doing some sponge painting. I'd love to do a pink and brown toile/preppy theme in there. Funny thing is, I only bother to decorate when we need to sell a house. Otherwise, I just live with ugly - LOL!

I totally have the teeth dreams! In the dreams, I'm either losing teeth, or they are all cracked (I do need some dental work - Louie cracked an incisor with his noggin in a nursing incident a few years ago. I got it fixed, and he bashed it again a week later). I also have hair dreams - I go in for a trim and end up with a mullet! And the school dreams - don't even get me started!!! I spent waaaay too long in school. I did the regular k-12 course, 2 years in community college, 3 years in a 4 year college, and then 4.5 years in grad school (Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Virginia Tech - Go Hokies!!!). So my school dreams sort of bounce back and forth between the different stages, and usually involve (1) not knowing my locker combination, (2) having signed up for a class and only attended it a few times and forgotten that is where I should be at that time of the week and the textbook is in that locker that I forgot about, (3) being ultra close to graduation, but forgot to take a PE credit or something, (4) absentmindedly bringing home radioactive experiments, and having guys with Geiger counters show up at my apartment or (5) having no clothes on because of some wardrobe oversight.

Oh - and baby names! I wanted to quickly share where we came up with the name Louie :) . My husband's name is Delmar - he is named after his dad. My father's name is Louis. Originally, we were going to name our little guy Delmar Louis. One day, my husband said "you know, my father already has a namesake - let's give your dad one. " So we flipped it, and Louie is Louis Delmar  .

That's sounds like the one that I have. It is super easy to use.

Eeyore- I feel your pain. I had a similar problem with DD's previous school. But our issue was with the teacher. Her teacher kept telling me what a trouble maker Jenna was. She said she was always talking in class and not doing her work. Well Jenna never brought home anything lower than a B and never brought home anything that was incomplete. Well one day her teacher calls and says that she can't deal with Jenna any more. I asked her what was wrong and she said that Jenna was talking in class too much and she thinks that Jenna is developmentally behind. My daughter was on the A/B honor roll the entire time that she was in that school. Come to find out Jenna was bored. She would get done with her work and get bored with listening to the same thing over and over again. This teacher was teaching almost the same curiculum that Jenna had in Kindergarten. Well since changing her school she has been so happy. She gets A's in conduct every week and she was behind at first but she has quickly caught up.

That is adorable! How do you all does those pretty appliques and embroidery?? Do you have a special machine?

I do use an Innovis 1000 by Brother. It's a very nice machine, not top of the line or anything but a lovely 5x7 embroidery machine :)
