I can so hear my DD now: "My mommy made me this shirt. It's made out of a pillowcase." :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Thank you! You never know what they are going to say. Megan's friend just got prescription glasses so Megan has been wearing her hello kitty sunglasses to school. When her teacher told her to take them off, she said, but I have to wear them, they are subscription! :rotfl:

thanks.. I went ahead and ordered the pants pattern.

:rotfl2: that sounds like something DD would say.

Hello to all of you very talented people! I am an occasional lurker here and need help!!! I'm a beginner when it comes to sewing - I've done some curtains and blankets for my son's room. Now, I want to move into clothing and patterns terrify me! It's hard for me to find a pattern I like. Does anyone out there make clothes without patterns and how do you go about it??? I am looking to make a simple summer top and I guess I just don't know where to start. :confused3 If anyone has any advice for me, I would be very grateful!

Lisa

This is what I did yesterday. I just took a pillowcase and added sleeves and a ruffle, for an "everyday outfit."

VERY cute pillowcase top! And I am :rotfl2: about what Megan said! That sounds like something Sydni would say!

Now, why am I on here instead of making a "Simply Sweet Dress"?

I was just thinking that same thing, then I remembered "oh yeah, my 15mo and my 4yo don't allow me to sew!":rotfl:

I am on the SE side, in Friendswood. I have only been to Sugar Land three times...the first time when I got lost after an interview at the Galleria area..I took 59 going the wrong direction. We had just moved here, so I didn't even realize that I was lost until I saw a sign that says "Sugar Land!" I have since learned that 59 S will not take me back home! LOL

It really does amaze me how big Houston is. I've lived here since 1981 and I don't think I've ever been to Friendswood - and only made my first trips to Spring (Old Town Spring) and La Porte (co-worker's home) within the last few years.

My grandmother always asks me to "run over and check in on" my father, but because I'm in far SW Houston and he is in far NW Houston we are over 60 miles apart.

Ugh, so behind! Sorry!

I LOVE the top! I never would have thought to use a pillow case for a peasant-style top.

I have that pattern, and it IS EASY! Here is my princess in the pants and top from Carla C.

OK! that is cute! I love HSM ("Miscal-Miscal" Norah calls it)

Love the everyday stuff! But you could dress that up nicely. You know, for HSM on ice, of HSM III, or a play date with another girl in the park, or what have you. ;)

My 10 yr anniversary is in September too. And we went to Disney World for our honeymoon.

Small world ;)

I should really try an elastic neckline sometime, I didn't like the ribbons on the pillowcases I tried to make in the past as they were a pain to wash, this is so cute though :)

Here am I, sneaking out of lurkdom to post, my first sewn garment in close to eight years, a flirty summer skirt for dd. This was completely handsewn. I used Waldemort fabric $1/yd for all of it. It has a sheer white lining since I was afraid the sun would show off her unders if I didn't. It is a tiny bit big in the elastic waist. But overall, she is happy and my fingers hurt. Feedback please.

hollybears - Great job! I can't believe you took the time to do that by hand! Wow! You have a lot more patience than me. :worship:

Hi there :) I'd like to introduce myself if that's OK :) I would have done so sooner but I had to go wish some folks a happy birthday so I could post a picture with my hello ;)

My name is Laura, I'm a SAHM to two gorgeous toddlers. My daughter, Gabi is 2.5 yrs old and my son, Camden, is 1.5 yrs old. They are only 13.5 months apart so I keep pretty busy. I'm always doing arts and crafts with Gabi and sometimes just for me. I love photography and do lots of it too :)

The last time I went to Disney World was in 1998 for my honeymoon. I'm excited to say I'm going back for Gabi and Cam's first trip and my 10 yr anniversary this September. I plan to make some cute stuff for the kiddos to wear.

I've loved looking through your gorgeous work and getting ideas so far :)

Here are a few non-disney things I've made to say hello since I know you like pictures ;)

Here is Camden, I didn't make anything here but I did take the pic and I wanted to show at least one of him since Gabi is mainly who you'll see in the following pics and I hate to leave him out :)

Your wish is my command:

It is just two pieces of fabric, the Easter eggs and lining, overlapping. I just copied the one Megan picked out from :wizard: . My husband said it looks weird.

Wow that is adorable and if you sewed it by hand, you're my hero! I hate sewing with a needle. I put off sewing on buttons till I have no choice! ;)

Wow..that looks great, and handsewn? I do not even have the patience to hand sew a hem, let alone a whole skirt!

Yeah, by hand. I am afraid of my machine so I don't even have it unpacked from our move last October. I hand piece little quilts when I feel like it, so I can do that whenever the urge strikes. I have tried to find someone to teach me to use my machine, but she basically sat in front of it for 30 minutes and said it will do this, and this, and this, then said okay, you run a few stitches, thank you ma'am $45. I never even went back for the other half hour. Very intimidated. But the more I see here the more I wish I had the ability to sew some of these super cute outfits, so maybe it will see the light of day soon...well, maybe.

Completely off topic but I've got a question. :) We just installed laminate flooring in our living room. I bought a swiffer to clean it but the flimsy thing broke last night! I had it for a whole week! GRRR.... anyway, what do you use to clean your laminate? I'm thinking of the shark steam mop. Any opinions???

I would think the steam would make the floor buck. I use the wetwipe looking things that go on the regular swifters. That way I'm not getting it sopping wet.

Good evening all so far so good this week no new injuries for the Ivie twins. :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :worship:. Emmy is doing better I am only having to give her med when she wakes up in the morning. My guess is it gets stiff sleeping at night. I just wanted to again say thank you for all the wonderful well wishes. It has made dealing with all this a little eaiser. In fact I have gotten some sewing done today and came to a fork in my path I wanted to get all of your opinions about the yellow lace trim on this dress. I am not sure if it makes it too busy or not. Tia and I will keep you up dated on the Ivie twins life in the ER.:rotfl:

I've had about every kind of floor imaginable and I think laminate is the hardest to keep looking clean and not streaky. But, I 2nd the opinion that you should use vinegar and water for a cleaning solution. I've never tried a steam mop, but I'd make sure it's okay to use on laminate. I have a Hoover Floormate and it works great on laminate and real hardwood floors.

But, the best way to clean your floors is this-
Have your husband do it!! That's what I do! :rotfl:

LOL I saw the shark online late one night and it said that it was safe for lamintates....but then I went to my flooring manufacturer site and it says NO to steam cleaning. Well phooey! Guess I'll get a cheapo sponge mop and make some microfiber cloth covers to go over it and get a spray bottle and some vinegar. Oh well, more $$ for the fabric stash. LOL
