Disappointed with SSR

We spent last week at WDW. We had a 1 BD at SSR and were very exicted to stay there. However, after three sleepless nights we checked out and spent the rest of the week at BW.

After the first sleepless nigt we called mainteneace and asked them to fix an intermittnet drip we heard all night long. We were out all day and assumed it was fixed (after all, this is Disney). Well, after another sleepless night we again called maintainence. A very nice man came to our room and explained that they go to practically every room and explain that the drip is the air conditioning and there is nothing they can do about it. He said it is the way all the air conditioning is being done in the hotel.

In addition to the dripping all night, we were often awakened by the sound of toilets flushing in the other rooms throughout the night.

Some other minor complaints:
- We were constantly chasing the hot water in the shower
- The air conditioning was loud every time it went on and off.
- There were flashing green lights in the ceiling each time the air went off and on.
- The one bedroom seemed smaller than at BW. I don't know if it actually is but I think part of the issue is that the furniture (while very beautiful) is quite large. So while the space may be the same as BW (not sure) the furniture takes up a lot of room!
- We heard the buses coming and going too. Even when I've stayed in rooms fronting the bus stop at OKW I've never heard the buses.

So my guess is that the buildings at SSR are constructed more cheaply than the other DVC's. I'm very curious to know if this lower standard will be acceptable at Disney owned properties.

Funny, I was there a couple of weeks ago and thoguht they were quite nice. Size-wise, they seemed the same size as BWV.

The AC dripping sound may be like the AC units we used to have in our house. There was no condenser, the water was recycled through the unit itself and used to cool it off, so there would be a dipping or swooshing noise. I am a heavy sleeper though, so it never bothered me.

Sorry about your troubles.

There must be some kind of mistake, are you sure this wasn't BCV? Seems like they get all the criticism around here.

It drips into the drain next to the washer and dryer. It is annoying, but we did not hear it when we closed off the doors from the bedroom and closed the door to the laundry area.

We never heard any noise from buses or the toliets unless the toliets were in our unit.

I found our unit to be much quieter than OKW.

We're here now and have no problems with drips, noisey flushes, or hot water. In fact, we had one in the shower while one was filling the jacuzzi tub in a 1BR and both had plenty of hot water. What room did you have so we know to avoid it in the future?

As far as bus noises, I think it depends on the location. I have stayed at OKW in a first floor studio and I knew exactly when the busses started running every morning. They would wake me from a sound sleep.

i've never actually been asleep at any time the busses are running so i wouldn't know if they would wake me or not

Well even though I own at SSR and I have somme complaints about the property as well. I watched them build the property and though I am not a construction expert, I can tell you that the construction was not cheap. Everything seemed first class and the hotel was obviously huricane proof (steel beams and poured cement walls). I travel for a living and all hotels have noise.

Just let them know and i am sure in the long run the problems will be fixed. I am so glad that you notified them because as the fix the problems, it will make future trips for all of us better.

Thanks!

We were there several weeks ago in a 2BR (I posted a report earlier). We are both very light sleepers, but we heard nothing like what you are reporting. However, the bus stop was not close to our unit. We always use earplugs when we are traveling, but the only noise we heard was the DTD fireworks at midnight. We even remarked to each other that the A/C was quiet. Light bothers me as well, so I always pack a "chip clip" to clip the curtains together, and I unplugged the hair dryer unit too since it had a night light built into it.

Hmmm. We didn't experience any noise issues when we were there in June...and we definitely used the AC the whole time...as low as it would go! :D A drip would be irritating to me as well. The water from the AC has to go somewhere...seems like they could make the drip line long enough so that the drops of water don't have far to fall.

Trying to figure out the flashing green lights. Were they from the thermostat? I don't remember that happening...but ours was in the hallway.

We did run out of hot water once...chalked it up to heavy AM water use...didn't have it happen again that week.

I believe the room sizes are basically the same. We haven't stayed at BWV yet...and maybe the furniture there is smaller. I'll take a big comfy sofa and chair any day, though.

Desperado...LOL! :hyper:

I stayed at SSR in July and had no problems what so every. Thought the resort was great. Regarding noise, I am very hard sleeper. Once the resort is completed I think it will be excellent.

I am fairly new member and also stayed at BWV the same time, and loved SSR better. I just thought the overall landscaping, views from balcony and furniture were nicer. BWV does have nice location to Epcot and MGM, but SSR also has some pluses being close to DTD, if that interests you.

Everyone has different opinions and I personally feel that all DVC resorts are great.

We were at SSR last week and had no trouble sleeping. We had no issues with hot water, drips, or lights. The fireworks did wake me up one night, but everybody else slept through them (including our 5 month old!). I mentioned in my trip report that the toilet flushing is rather intense for a 3-year old! It's pretty loud and woke me up when DH got up in the middle of the night. We were in a 2 bdrm in the last building (closest to DD walkway) and never heard the buses running either. I'm a pretty light sleeper but had little trouble with noise while there. I wasn't even sure if anyone was staying in the same building b/c it was so quiet!

Sorry for your problems. Hope next time is quieter!:D

Yeah, it looks like the OP is straying from the orthodoxy here of only criticizing BCV. And of the reason for this BCV bashing must be so that I will be able to get a BCV ressie at 7 months at peak times like F&W, right?

We were at SSR last week as well. We too heard the AC dripping into the W/D drain as well as flushing toilets. However neither was to a level that really annoyed us. I will say that the thermostat never seemed to work quite right. It was either hot or cold, it never kept it at an even temperature. Sometimes we had to push it up or down real low to get the AC to turn on or off...

We were at SSR last week, 2bd, rm #2335. The only problem we had was a leak from the hot water in the master bath that had water all over the cabinet under the sink. Called maintenance and when we came back that afternoon everything was fixed.

Will post some more info from our trip in a separate post.

Boy how I wish we were still there. Oh well, now I have to wait until Jan 06.

I bought into SSR in June and while on another trip to WDW two weeks ago my son and I toured the SSR resort and we were really impressed! Can't wait to stay there next year!:hyper:

We stayed at SSR the first week it was open. We were in Congress Park - and were the building farthest to the right (obviously the first one open).

Honestly - I dont remember having any problems with noise from the room. We were not near the bus stop, so that too did not present any problems.

Sorry to hear you had a bad stay - we loved SSR

Eric

Just an idea for your next stay at SSR. Why don't you bring one of those sound machines? My kids 2, 5, and 7 all use them, even at home! Also, my husband and I are so used to listening to my daughter's (set to babbling brook:D ) on the baby monitor, that we can't sleep with out it! We always bring one when we stay at any hotel (including Disney's). You just never know how loud things will be. I hope your next stay turns out better for you! :flower:
