disappointed with photopass photos

About the 994 pics....

I think we had close to that many one year - not in original pics, though. One of my kids went nuts with the editing - cropping and putting multiple borders on everything. It was back when they sent you disks of the pics. That trip we got 6 disks.

Ok, I have an AP, so I get MM included as part of that. I would never pay the $169 or whatever it is for this service because I just don't care that much about all the photos. I'm happy with a few photos taken with my cell phone.

For those that are unhappy that the photographer took 5 photos and they don't like any of them...think about when you got married and hired a photographer. How much did that cost? How many photos did the photographer take? Of the 1000+ that he or she probably took, how many did you think were actually worthy of being framed or put in your photo album? I'd guess that the number of 'great' shots was a small percentage of the ones taken by that expensive professional photographer. Sure, there were probably a bunch of pretty good ones, and maybe an even bigger bunch of okay ones, but there were likely a lot of duds in there, too.

I think it's all a matter of perspective. If you paid that $169, and the individual price of the photos is still $15 like it used to be, then if you got a dozen really good pictures that you would have paid for, you got your moneys worth.

If you want custom poses and great shots that look fabulous, you should probably be booking a private photo session.

Again, just my personal perspective.

These are good points, but I'd like to re-state, that I am only comparing this to my own previous experience with memory maker/photopass photographers.

  • Wishing i had read this thread earlier today. I just paid for MM today when I purchased our MNSSHP tickets. At least my expectations have been appropriately set. Still excited for DD6 first trip :flower1:

Even though I am less pleased with this product than I have been in the past, I would still buy it again. I do have several good photos and even great photos. Also, I like the ride photos and my kids have great fun posing for them.

What I will do in the future is not assume that the character photographers are taking photos in both directions (and, no you can't crop a close up horizontal photo and turn it into a vertical photo that shows the whole costume or backdrop) and not assume that the photographer will do a better job than me. I will take my time composing the shot I want and not let myself feel rushed.

I will also make sure that I arrange us for group photos so I don't end up with strangely composed photos.

I'm up to 1085 now with the borders. I mostly just add the border to the ride photos - test track, TOT, Everest, Space Mountain, Buzz, 7D, Dinosaur. They look strange to me without them. Sometimes I add the year sticker to the bottom corner of a photo. I make it very small.

Have you all seen the new-ish Pirates ride photo? I can't imagine what they were thinking. The photo is of the entire boat. The photo comes with the border already on it. If you try to enlarge the photo, which you need to do if you are not in the first 2 rows of the boat, the border gets enlarged as well and gets cropped off...the bottom line is you really cant't enlarge the photo and crop it so that your party is primary focus of the photo.

Yes! They look terribly odd without the border. And I, too, zoom in tight on my family and add the border after that. Kindred spirits!
