Disappointed with Disney Club

I am so disappointed with the Disney Club. I have been a member for 15 years starting with the Magic kingdom club until my membership expired in 3/03. When I called to renew they told me I couldn't. then to find out the other day on the boards they were letting you buy out till the end of the year.
Well I just got off the phone with them and they said as of 9/26 they are no longer taking requests. There answer to not letting their members know was they were hoping that word of mouth would let people know to call. So i just finished getting 3 hopper tickets, booked a cruise and hotel stay and I could have saved a lot of money for probably a 20.00 fee to finish out the year. I am so disappointed that they could not let their loyal members know of this option by mail.
so if anyone was interested in finishing out the year with the club its to late.

Disneyliz, though I haven't been a Disney Club Member since the "free" Magic Kingdom Club was discontinued, I can totally understand your disappointment with this. It just doesn't make sense that they didn't notify members (especially long-time members) of this buy-out.

In their defense they never let the members know you could extend it. So if they suddenly let you know that option was discontinued a lot of people would have been angry that they had not been told they could continue it. I figured mine was gone when I got the notice that it would not be renewed last year. I did later find out through the DIS that you could call and renew, but not from Disney.

It seems they slipped up somewhere, but I had no complaints because I received immediate notification by mail when they decided to discontinue the Disney Club, as well as a letter stating that they would accept partial-year renewals (to continue membership until the end of 03) until a certain date. I also received a mail notice of a special 2-year extension rate for Disney Magazine. I took advantage of all.

In addition, all notices were posted on the Disney Club website, including the final date to extend membership until the demise of the club.

disneyliz - How long past your membership expiration did you wait until trying to renew? If you let your membership lapse, perhaps they were looking at it as a "new membership" (which they were not accepting) because it had not been kept current. Just a thought. Sorry you were not notified.

As the above post stated, I received the communications from Disney discussing the end of the club ... and I did renew for the partial year.

For $7 for the rest of the year. I was pretty peeved -- did not get a card to remind me that my AP was about to run out. It's a good thing we noticed. The Disney person said that they are sending out reminders to "select guests." Humpf. It's not enough that they are making the APs always run from the anniversary date, now they are trying to chintz on the renewal rate. Anyway, the person I spoke with told me about the DC renewal option. The renewal for the rest of the year was only available till 9/26 & I called after that. Nice notice re the fact that we could renew til the end of the year, NOT. When I called the DC to complain, I asked to speak to a manager and they did eventually let me renew although I do not think I will be a contender for the "nice guest" award. But I got a nice discount on my APs.

You may wish to give that a try.

HTH.

oddly enough, I found out that you could extend thru the end of the year by presenting my card to a Disney Store employee last December who said I could extend my membership thru the end of this year if I renewed during December but after that, it would no longer be offered. just my 2 cents

There has been at least one post of a member allowed to get the discount even if her card had expired. I saw this post within the last couple of weeks on DIS either on the Cruise board or DVC.
