Disappointed in WDW pizza!

I have heard of people ordering pizza from offsite to their onsite hotel, but I think you have to meet them down at the lobby door? Anyone know for sure?

I agree, I mentioned Pizzafari, but I forgot about Pizza Planet. I thought that was fairly good, too.

I used to work at a Pizza Hut years ago when it was a company owned store. So because of this and having to eat so much pizza(and it still shows) I became very picky about eating the stuff! I didnt want pizza for 2 years after working there. We have a couple of local pizzarias that are very good and NY influenced now. The chains, dont want them. Too generic. Give me something original and different.

Where Im going with this is my liking for Mama Melroses flatbreads. This is a must for us now. We havent been impressed with any other pizzas at WDW. Pizzafari in AK is good for a quick meal. And last trip, DS had pizza at Roaring Forks and I tasted. I was more impressed by it than I thought I would be.

Is there ANY good food at Disney?? Maybe at the resorts, but certainly not at the parks. When I talk about "great" Disney food, I mean compared to OTHER Disney food. :earboy2:

Try the chicken sandwich at Tusker House in AK. Very tasty.

I have to disagree with the people who are posting positive reviews of Pizzafari. I was less than impressed with their pizza, and I'm not very picky about pizza.

I believe that is the Disney policy - for security reasons they don't want pizza guys running around the resorts.

A good tip when you do order offsite - have the exact amount, with the exact tip, when you pay. A common scam is for the pizza guy to 'claim' he doesn't have change. If you only have a twenty and the pizza is $12, you may end up giving him an $8 tip!

I really don't mind spending the bucks for food--I just wish Disney would get some decent food at the parks. Even if they would just let a few other franchises in. DH and I were talking about this at Epcot over the weekend--there is nowhere in Epcot to get a decent cup of coffee, or any hot chocolate other than an envelope of chocolate powder mixed with hot water. Why not let Starbucks in?? Or Pizza Hut??

Mama Melroses comes to mind as a good place to get pizza in WDW--it's flatebread pizza though.

There are several good dining spots in the parks. Mama Melroses and 50's Prime Time both have great food--in fact the fried chicken at 50's PT is the best I've ever had.

I also have had great meals at Bistro, Chef's, Le Cellier, and Teppanyaki in Epcot. Lunch at the Liberty Tree is good, and we've had good lunches at Cindy's as well. I've also had good salads at Cosmic Rays, and god meals at the Plaza.

At the AK, Tusker House has some really good offerings.

If you're a Pizza Snob, I'm one with you and know many people from NJ and NY who have the same response about WDW pizza! :D

Not only NJ and NY, I'm from Philly and used to some of the best pizzeria pizza around. Maybe for someone used to Domino's and Pap John's the pizza at WDW is ok, but if you are used to the real, hand-tossed creation? I'd rather make a english muffin 'pizza' in the food court microwave!

The pizza at the Pepper Market is the best I have had at WDW. It is hand tossed (not one of those shells that they showed on the Food Network show with the machine dispensing an exact anount of sauce, cheese and 3 pepperoni pieces) with fresh toppings.

The only good pizza on WDW property is the brick oven variety made at Pucks, or even the flatbreads at Cal Grill and Jiko.

There previous poster asked if there's any good food in the parks. Well, not a ton of it, but there is some good eating. Teppanyaki can be quite good. The Brown Derby is usually good. I've had good meals at LeCellier. But other than that it's mostly just decent.

The "very good" category is really only found in the deluxe resorts.

Another Chicagoland pizza snob here.

I like the flatbreads at CG, Jiko, Mama Melrose's and Pucks.

When folks say the pizza at Spoodles is nasty are you talking about the restaurant or the takeout window? I've had neither but can tell by other's descriptions that the window is to be avoided at all costs but had higher hopes for the restaurant.

We've had excellent meals at Mama Melrose, BD, Chefs, LeBistro, and Teppanyaki. Pretty good at LeCellier.

For lunch at MK we like the same ones Ducklite listed. We've even had light dinners at the Plaza as the menu is the same all day...sandwiches, soups and salads.

But there is some wonderful dining in the resorts.

I personally found the pizza at MGM toy story pizza planet to resemble cardboard. I did have some nice pizza at POFQ resort though.

I won't go out and say that the pizza is bad at WDW as I will have it again in the future, but I will say that it doesn't seem to be their specialty. For how good most of their other food is there, the pizza come off as just decent. The exception to this in my opinion would be the Pizzas from Wolfgang Pucks at DTD.

as a former Illinois Chicagp pizza snob, there are 3 things you can't get in Florida : great pizza, italian beef, or pork tenderloins. my best experience with Disney pizza is pizza planet. the stuff they bring to your resort is
but it's small tradeoff to be able to walk onto a dock and buy seafood right out of the gulf. but somebody ship me some portillo's please !

I agree about the pizza at POR. I ordered my 5yo son an individual one earlier this month and he didn't eat much of it (he has a great appetite...) and I tasted it and then understood why he wasn't eating more of it. Nothing was good about it. It was better than the meat pizza that my sister and BIL shared--that one was cold and gross. I told them to bring it back, but they didn't.

I thought that the Spoodles sit-down flatbread was good.

I'll be at WDW next month with my picky eater (and vegetarian) 11yo and wonder what he's going to eat. He likes pizza most days, but I have a feeling that he will tire of WDW pizza.

T&B

At SSR they have these flaltbread pizzas that were good. We tried the chicken articoke, and the bbq and they were a lot better than the other stuff!!! The pizza place over at mgm by TOT use to have a different tast and pizza and last June they had changed it to that yucky pizza!!!!

The worst pizza I've ever had in my life was from the food court at All Star Music. Never again!

Having lived most of my 42 years in Orlando I have to agree about the lack of good pizza here. As for disney pizza should just be avoided if you are looking for something other than to fill you up. Digger, agree with most of what you say except I have to go with NY pizza over Chicago (have tried both and like the thin crispy slightly burnt NY version), and I really did not like Giordano's (crust like totally tastless bread). But when I saw Portillo's my mouth just started to water (Mmmmmm, italian beef [insert Homer Simpson voice]). Do not know what you mean about pork tenderloin as I just buy fresh and make it at home.

As someone once said "Pizza is like sex, when it's good it's very good, and when it's bad it's still pretty good".

I too have not found a good slice of pizza at Disney. Very flavorless and usually undercooked.

As for the great NY vs. Chicago Debate. I have to go w/NY. I was there a month ago, and couldn't get enough of it. There is a great place in Hell's Kitchen which of course I have forgotten the name of.

FWIW, Giordano's is not Chicago style pizza. If you had New York pizza that was crispy, a mistake was made according to my sources--rule of thumb is you should be able to fold the slice over (YUCK, IMHO). Working in a college town, we get great (and cheap) pizza since that is something that is heavily competitive (in our town of 40,000, we have not fewer than a dozen local pizzerias plus the major chains including Papa John's, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa Murphy's, and Rosati's). Now, interestingly, I don't consider things like Wolfgang Puck to really be pizza (no tomato, no cheese, no pizza, IMHO, and a lot of them lack these basic ingredients), but, IMHO, I really like their gourmet California style pizzas and will order them in the airport or other places where I have a chance.

OTOWNGUY, I am glad you wrote that. I was thinking about that while I was reading the whole thread. That being said, I am usually ok with any pizza as long as there is a good supply of meat on it.
