The HDDR is a long time tradition for us - we go every year, laugh at every corny joke and have always loved the food. We went last Thurs. night and were very disappointed :sad2:. The jokes were shortened and just weren't delivered as well. Maybe cutting so many jokes out made the rest of them not as funny :confused3. The food was not as good. The strawberry short cake was different - almost like they used a pre-packaged cake/cookie instead of what they used to have. The ribs were not nearly as good either. We felt that the cornbread was still great as well as the mashed potatoes.

Also, our server was not as good as usual. Its possible that she was new and I could tell she was trying, so I really didn't mind. She just seemed a little stressed and not as wonderful as the service we've had in the past. My 9 year old asked for a coke, a water, and hot chocolate. Now, I know that this could be obnoxious for a server and I really didn't know that he was going to order 3 drinks. I think he was remembering the year before when a very sweet server brought him hot chocolate because he was cold. Anyway, this year's server says he can't order 3 drinks, he has to choose two. Of course he chooses the soda and hot chocolate :goodvibes. Later, I was thinking about it and I think if she had been a "great" server like we've had in the past, she would have brought him water at some point. I've ordered soda, sangria and water in the past without the server minding at all (at least not overtly ;)).

I would probably be willing to give this show a second chance, but my DH says he never wants to go back. He always loved the food and laughed out loud at all the jokes. I think he just feels let down in general about it.

I'm so sorry to hear that you were disappointed! Like you, we go every visit and it's the one thing that we all want to go to again without thinking about it.

We're going in about 3 weeks and between the changes in the songs, script, and food, I'm really nervous about it.

This is very sad to here. less than a year ago I was happy that the HDDR was one of the things that was still as good as always. I'm really getting the idea that Disney is counting on a new generation of guests who simply don't know how things used to be. Of course, many of us are still loyal customers and it's like a kick in the teeth everytime Disney fluffs us off.

We have ressies here for our nov. trip for the first time and appreciate your review but am def starting to second guess our ressie; even with TIW it's a fair bit to pay for less than fabulous with an 11 y/o. I would just hate to spend it and be dissapointed.

I am surprised when anyone says they go to HDDR more than once. :rolleyes1 For us, one time was WAYYY too many! Our server was hostile...she did not want to serve us and clearly hated her job. We thought the strawberry shortcake tasted like school cafeteria food. We thought the show was completely NOT our sense of humor...kind of Vaudeville meets Hee-Haw! Anyway...bless you that you made it that many times. I am just sorry when anyone becomes disillusioned by a Disney favorite...especially such an EXPENSIVE one!

If its your first time, you may love it. I think it will be most disappointing for those of us who have loved it for years. I guess you have to look at the cost and figure out if you're willing to take a chance on it.

I'll be there in less than 3 weeks. I will report back. It might have just been one of those nights. Or not.

Curious also to hear from others who have been recently. We went for the first time last summer and had a great time. Though the food was not gourmet we enjoyed it. We were considering going again on our next trip since DH didn't get to come last year but it is an expensive thing not to enjoy when you are paying oop.

I'm sorry that you didn't have a good experience! I've been twice and loved it but am disappointed to hear that they changed the show and the food isn't as good. :sad1:

I also want to hear some more reviews. We have never been and have this planned for next month. I really want to feel certain that it's worth two table credits and going to a meal at 9:30 at night.

Before I cancel, I really want to hear other reports, please!!

For those of you going that have never been before, I imagine you wouldn't miss anything that has changed or may be different so you should enjoy it. As long as it is something that meets the tastes of your family.

We go every year, its a must do for us. I'm curious/nervous to see what the changes are if anything when we go in October. I'm hoping that it was a one night thing, and not some kind of change in the show.

The food is not gourmet, but it is good and we always have a wonderful time.

So we did notice the changes to the show. The biggest in my opinion was the opening song. It bugged me the whole time. I also felt like were some jokes missing but couldn't quite figure out which ones. And the blonde was new this year from last year.

We did still have a great time though and DS was mesmerized the whole time. The blonde came over to our table several times and talked with the girls and we were part of the song about where everyone is from again this time too. We got picked in 2009 when my family with us that time too.

We've been twice before and loved it. It was fun...the kids had a great time and the beer/sangria was a nice plus. We get a family photo done. The food is nice...not to die for, but pretty decent comfort food. It's a nice time...or was a nice time. We have it booked for our family Xmas trip. I'm not too worried, but I have heard a lot about dining service going down a bit.

Also, we are paying OOP for it this time...we are getting the TIW card and was told that we could only use it for the 4:00 show. I'm a little worried that may be too early for dinner, especially with all the teenagers in our group(6 between the ages of 12-18) who will sleep late and eat their 1st meal around 1:00. ;-)

I'm baack. We had a great time at HDDR. Food was as good as always. The beer was cold and the show was great. And as usual at Disney, I ended up as part of the show. I was Dolly's tooter that helped her beat Six Bits.(At Epcot I was King Arthur and at Monsters Inc I was Sully)
BTW this was my 8th time seeing HDDR. Loved it every time.

I hadn't heard they changed the show. Why would they change it when sooooo many people liked it just the way it was???? We see it every several trips and saw it last Christmas day. It was great and the kids loved it. We don't plan on seeing it this upcoming trip but I know we'll want to go back after a few more trips, hope to hear more good reviews...

I LOVE the HDDR. I think tis the best show DISNEY offers... We look forward to this everytime. We were there a few months ago and it was a great as last year.
Sorry you did not enjoy the show.

They changed the opening song because they were sued by the owner of the lyrics and they had to

I looked it up on Youtube.. you can watch clips from recent performances to see if it is something you would want to consider. I even found a video of a private dress rehearsal showing of the new songs.

We have never been but have an ADR on 11/25. We are really looking forward to HDDR :goodvibes

1) The HDDR show has changed.
. . . two songs were eliminated
. . . one new song was inserted
. . . three jokes were changed
2) Disney had to pay copyright fees for the songs/jokes. *
3) They didn't like that, so the dropped them.
4) Many say the new songs and jokes are weak.
5) Changes
. . . no more Hoop Dee Doo Polka (actually now used at Busch Gardens)
. . . no more Chow Down song
. . . new opening song was not near as infectious (Stupid lyrics)

* Same reason for the absence of the Country Bears Christmas
shows. WDW was sued for royalties on several songs. So,
instead of paying, they dropped the songs. Having stropped the
songs, they would have to reprogram the characters. Too
much work, so no Christmas show. Let's hope they wake up
and put a new Bears Christmas Show i.
