It's official. I'm pathetically out of shape.
A couple months ago, my mom ordered this "jump rope" from QVC. It's basically 2 jump rope handles with weights built in and no actual rope to jump over. You just go through the motions of jumping rope (perfect for me since I always trip over the stupid rope). Anyway it comes with a DVD with an 8 minute beginner workout and a 12 minute intermediate workout. I went beginner since I am one. Whoa...it even has 3 (small) water breaks built into it and I was out of breath after a minute of jumping! I actually stopped jumping and just walked in place for a couple parts because I just couldn't do it! Of course it didn't help that I have hardware in my ankle and all the jumping and bouncing wasn't feeling so great. But I tried my best to finish it. I didn't realize I was THAT bad...since I can walk for good chunks of time at a decent pace I figured I would be able to do this with minimal difficulty. Boy was I wrong.
Will keep trying though...maybe jump roping is not the best workout for me.
Hope you all are having a great day!
Shannon, just being able to not jump rope imo doesn't mean you are out of shape. I can do the elliptical on random level 8 for 45 min, over 4 miles, the arc trainer for the same amount of time (although not distance), and can play up to 2 hours of ice hockey. My fitness level according to my wellness nurse is excellent (on a scale of poor to excellent). I have dropped over 15% body fat in the last year.
That all being said, I can't jump rope or run to save my life. It HURTS. Hurts my joints, hurts my ankles, and really just makes my body not feel good. Maybe it is more effective, but the damage I might be doing to my already somewhat damaged body (I had rheumatoid arthritis as a kid), just isn't worth it. I am taking this as a sign that I need to stick to low-impact exercise.
