Since this is reporting day on our Challenge thread, I thought I would share my results with my peeps. Now we had to report how many miles we exercised along with how many miles. Here is how I did:

Week 1 - Feb. 1 - 7

Total Miles: 16.32

Total Minutes: 273 or 4 hr. 33 minutes

Sandy, how did you do?

hi, peeps! :goodvibes

mony - i hope you're starting to feel better. take care of yourself and make your hubby feed you chicken soup and rub your feet!!!

I am happy because I think Mr Kat has finally, really, jumped on the wagon with me. It will be really good for us, and will hopefully mean that we can work things out on other fronts too.

 glad things are looking up!

Ditto on what you thought Dawn did! I kept picturing the person with that weird typewriter thing that only seemed to have like 10 keys and space bar. And then the judge would say "can you read back what the defendant just said". Or is that a court reporter that I'm thinking of?

i am a court reporter! it's just that when people think of court reporters, they think of what you're talking about with the woman sitting there with her wierd typewriter thingy. that's called machine writing. what i do is voice writing. but our finished product looks exactly the same. it's about 50/50 now as far as voice writers and machine writers. we have 5 court reporters at my firm and 4 of us are voice writers - shannon's the only machine writer. and i still "read back" when they need me too. my sound file is digital, so i can mark questions, answers and objections on my key pad and just double click on those to go directly back to the part they want read back....or just rewind like you would on a CD if i didn't mark it with my keypad for some reason. then i just put on my headphones and repeat what's playing. you're probably more confused now!!!! :upsidedow

Hi Peeps!

I'm not sure how many calories I had today. I had yogurt for breakfast, and that was 100 calories, tortelinni for lunch, which was like 500 calories, pudding twice today, 600 calories, and braised cabbage and apricots, (slow cooker recipe,) for dinner, not sure how many calories.

So I was good today, except I'm baking brownies right now, and I'll be eating a few of those later. Luckily, they are the already pre-cut ones that all I have to do is bake, and I know there are 50 calories in each brownie, so it'll be easy to count how many calories I'm eating.

I'm annoyed at DF right now. He isn't supposed to be working, but when I talked to him this morning he was doing "errands" for his work, which isn't technically working, but he keeps on going into his work even though he can't work. Does that make any sense? Then we were thinking about going out this afternoon, but he was too weak. He gets exhausted very easily these days, so he should know better, and not work. I don't care what he says, going into work and doing errands is working.

I think I'm going to buy the Betty Crocker heart cookbook, and see if I can't make him eat better, since he does mainly eat just junk. Actually, that's an understatement. Everytime I've seen him eat, with the exception of when I cook, it's been fast food, (though he doesn't like fries go figure,) and when we go to sit-down restaurants, it's ribs, bbq chicken, or steak. Once in awhile he does get plain fish, but that is rare. He's also a smoker, so that doesn't help either, though he quits once in awhile, he always starts again.

So he really needs to eat better. Unfortunatly there's not much I can do until we do start living together. And who knows when that'll be. He did promise we'd get an apartment before he bought another new car, (he buys cars all the time,) but he bought a truck recently, and we still have no apartment. Though he did kind of have a reason for needing the truck right away, so I can't be too annoyed at him about that.

Wow, am I feeling foolish right now! I knew you were a court reporter, yet I assumed that what you were doing wasn't court reporting. :wizard: (<--- That's me with a dunce cap on.) But it is making sense to me now. Thanks for clearing that up!

All right, here's a question for you calorie counters. How do you factor in other nutritional information, such as fat, fiber, carbs, etc.? What made WW so easy is that you didn't have to worry about any of that. You just eat your points, and you are done. But now, not only I am worried about eating my correct calorie totals, but having too much of some other thing (fat, carbs) that will hinder my weight loss. Do you just keep a running tab in your head? Do you follow any guidelines about how much of each you eat each day? Any advice you can give?

Hi all.

Dawn, I did court reporting the way you do it. Of course, back then, it was the huge over the whole face thing. I didn't realize voice reporting was still being used. It's not like I'm in a court room very often.

Aaron, I count fat grams in addition to calories since I have to be pretty strict about my fat intake because of the breast cancer. Because of my limited fat allowance, my calories are probably lower than most people's. I try to keep my fat grams under 15 per day. The doctor hasn't really given me any restrictions. Well, I guess you have to count no alcohol, no cheese and only 2 ounces of red meat per week as restrictions, huh? I have not watched carbs at all but I'm so restricted on fat, I just don't feel that I can watch it all. I eat a lot of fruit which is high in carbs so that may be why my weight loss is so slow. I'm not giving up those California fresh oranges though. Not going to happen.

I am walking every day. Since the weather has been nice again, I've been walking about 3.5 miles each day. I do try to walk it as fast as I can tolerate and doing some interval jogging in there.

Movie list? Wow that is tough:

1. Pride & Prejudice (BBC version with Colin Firth)
2. Persuasion
3. Joy Luck Club
4. Chronicles of Narnia
5. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
6. Dog Soldiers
7. Juno
8. Dirty Dancing
9. Urban Cowboy
10. Lord of the Rings Trilogy

ATTENTION PEEPS!!! are any of you going to WDW within a week or so of april 27th to may 3rd? i'm thinking of starting a photopass share but i only want to do it with people i know!

no need to feel foolish! it's a very complicated thing that doesn't make sense to anyone who doesn't do it.

when i first started counting my calories i had a little notebook i kept it all in. i had three columns: one for calories, one for fat grams and one for carb grams. i tried to keep my calories around 1500 per day, fat grams around 65 grams per day and carb grams around 250 per day. i know where i got the 1500 number (goal weight x 12), but i have no idea where i got the other two. anyway, the habit of counting all three fell off after awhile. it got to be too cumbersome. but i don't eat really bad things anyway, so i don't have a problem with fat grams. now carbs are a different story. :rolleyes1

cool! yep, court reporting is around. they have speech recognition systems now (where the words come up on your screen as you talk). my boss has one, but she told me to wait a couple of years before i invest $15,000 into a system. she says hers doesn't work very well - they still have a lot of issues to work out.

Hey - I'm a newbie. I was introduced to this thread by Faith - a very good friend of mine. She invited me to come over here. Wow - what a great group of people providing a safe and supportive environment.

My name is Tina, I'm 37, a single mom and have a DS14 who fortunately has no weight problem! I have a lot of weight to lose - but unlike most people, have NOT spent my whole life trying every diet known to man. I am starting now. I have to. I'm definitely an emotional eater - and hate hate hate exercising, but did join a gym over a year ago, so I know that when you exercise you do actually feel better. Not sure about actually joining again, but going to start out by walking.

From reading, I understand that Friday's are weigh in days? I will definitely be back to report if that's ok with all of you!! Thanks!!

i can't remember if i mentioned it or not, but those tornadoes that came through tuesday night hit my grandmother's house around 1:30 a.m. she has almost no trees left in her front yard - they're very lucky it didn't take out their house. here's some pics my mom sent me......

and some of you had asked me about that 11-month-old baby they found in a field in castalian springs. i saw the story on world news tonight. they found his father, but his mother was killed in the storm. :sad1:

A, I use sparkpeople.com to track my calories. I am HockeyKat there too. It appeals to the math geek in me... I just put in all my foods and it calculates the fat/carb/protein ratio. You can set goals for yourself in each category and it will generate charts and such to track your progress. Best part... it is free!

Welcome!!! :yay: :yay:

Friday is weigh-in. You only have to post the weight that you lost from last week, not your actual weight, and put it in big colored numbers at the top like so: -2.

Hope everyone else had a better day than I did! Did great w/ food/exercise, though!

Guess what????

:cool1:  :yay: :woohoo:

We're taking a mega spontaneous drive 9 hours to the south west of us!!!!

Our Disneyland AP's expire next week. So park entrance is FREE this time.

We're taking the Toyota not the Suburban so we'll get great mileage.

Booked a no- tell motel called the Islander Inn and Suites (two full stars, out of 5). We bought snacks and breakfast stuff at Walmart.

It's a quest to do it for as little $ as possible.

Jordan is staying. No, I will not be a grandmother in 9 months. Thanks for thinking that. LOL!!!!
He's in charge of the pets...please pray for my 2 dogs and 2 cats whilst I'm gone.

So we're going from a grey slushy cold winter day to the 70's and a little sunshine! Not to mention the new Nemo ride!

The goal is 3:00 leave time. 5 hours later we'll be at Buffalo Bills at the State Line of Nevada where mama will attempt to win some souvenir $ by playing Texas Holdem. Won't win and will be stuck with pin trading and photographs only.

Do you know how CHEAP it is at Buffalo Bills? $59 for a double queen size bed room. ((High Five!))

Crazy or What???? Sheez it's certifiable! Or brilliant?

Anyway...I'll be around to record our weights but will someone reliable back me up and take over with the totals after all have recorded? Please try to post early-ish, ok? Will that someone PM me with the totals?

Both the name and + or - and then the grand total for the day. I'd be much abliged :flower3:

Ok, I'm all set from my broccoli stir fry dinner.. Gut is already rumbling.

I have never heard of anyone doing that around here! My court reports have always used the machines! This sounds so weird to me. I'm going to check to see if any court reporters around here do this!

Hi! Welcome!

UM - HOW FUN!!!!!!! i'm so jealous right now. let us know the details. do at least a one-post mini TR!

i would volunteer to do numbers but i may have to work at longhorn tomorrow night.

pixie - some states don't have them. just depends on where you live. and *some* machine writers have hard feelings towards voice writers. see...my school took 6 months. theirs takes a minimum of 3 years....usually longer. you do the math! i went to college for 5 years in order to get a bachelor's in business. then i'm supposed to go for 3 more to be a court reporter????? i don't think so! i could get through law school by then! so my choices were 6 months or 3 years and i'd be doing the same thing and making the same money. not a hard choice! and now that they have voice recognition, real time is available with voice writers too. not all machine writers are nasty towards us, but some are. :confused3 lots of machine writers are switching to voice writing because of carpal tunnel, too.

GOOD LUCK ON WEIGH-IN TOMORROW, EVERYONE! have skinny dreams! :cloud9:

Cool on the spontaneous trip. We did that last year at WDW. Our passes expired the beginning of July. I got great airfare so the kids got out of school at the end of June and the last day of school, I took them from school to the airport and we spent a long weekend in Disney. DH couldn't get off work so we made it a girls only trip!

I'm so glad you are going for the full 2 star hotel instead of one of those cheesey 1 1/2 star deals! I'd offer to do the peep records tomorrow, but I am totally irresponsible and I'm stuck in meetings all tomorrow, so won't be able to get on much.

I hope to God we hear from you again after your journey into the land of world class accomodations!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Have a great time!

Tina, my dear friend, welcome over here. I'm so glad you are joining us. I know I already told you but this is a great group of people over here and we'll all be here for you. I hope they do as much for you as they've done for me. And you're joining just in time because I'm sure Aaron will have another short term challenge for us starting after Valentine's Day. You'll see tomorrow when he'll post his fancy chart of our Valentine's Challenge. I didn't do so well so I'm already looking forward to the next one!!! Utah Mama, our thread leader, keeps track of our weekly totals and stuff like that too.

Now I have to tell all of you what I did this afternoon. This is so me. I walked my 3 and a half miles so I thought I could afford to treat myself. They had this candy at work. Dark chocolate. Those little ones that if you just have one, aren't bad. Well I decided I would have half of one. So I broke it, threw half in the trash and then took the other half home with me in my car. I put it on the console between the seats and sure enough, as soon as I made my first turn, that chocolate slid off the console and under the seat. Down there where it hasn't been cleaned in 3 years. This could only happen to me. So I fished it out when I got home because I didn't want it to melt under there but I had to throw it away.

Aaron I thought of you with all of that Halloween candy and I figured that if you could do that, I could just get over the waste of that gorgeous piece of dark chocolate. So I hope my weigh in tomorrow morning shows I lost a pound.

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PEEPS (and my IRL friend too)...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SANDY!!!

HOPE IT'S WONDERFUL & FULL OF NICE SURPRISES!

HI Peeps~ Sorry for another fly by; I've had so much to do this last week. I hope to post a pic of what I've been up to before we leave for vacation (in AZ, the plane leaves in just a little over 24hrs..... :cool1: ) I did really good at keeping up with all the posts early in the week so I mostly knew what was going on.

Ahywho...... my report for the week: on points everyday, had a little tummy trouble and didn't want to eat a few evenings so it made it easier not to cheat. The scale shows my honesty too.......... I am down 3lbs!!! I made up for my gain last week and still had a loss this week. I won't be here at all next week so this is my final weigh in for the V-day challenge. Count my in for a St Pat's Day or Easter challenge if there is one. (hint hint)

I've got to run........still too many things to do.

Happy, Happy Birthday Sandy!!!!!!!!

I hope you have a great day! You are such an inspiration to all of us. I haven't met Sandy IRL but I hope to soon. We do need to call each other more often though.
