How is the cell phone coverage/reception at Aulani and the rest of Oahu? We have Verizon, just curious as far as dead zones and such. Would hate to be on a hike and lose service in the case of an emergency.

If you have a newer iPhone you should be able to use Satellite communications if you get into a jam off grid. Also, again for emergencies, when calling 911 it doesn’t matter what network your are on, most modern phones will connect to any available network to complete the emergency call. If you are really worried about it you can also add T-Mobile’s Satellite feature to your phone (not changing service providers, but just adding this coverage option) and that would give you texting coverage as well as emergency services contact.

Cell service? I'm more afraid of 5 or 6 figure helicopter medical evac bills! Think of that before doing any remote hiking. I saw several on the day we hiked Diamond Head.

We were thinking about Diamond Head, I didn't realize that hike was considered remote, It seemed to be pretty popular and reasonable. I read about some other hikes that looked beautiful but those seemed beyond my athletic ability while being more treacherous and remote. I guess anything can happen, and I do not want THAT type of helicopter ride. I am used to hiking in the White Mountains of NH and thus far managed to not needing to be rescued off of a mountain 🤣
