Ok, here's my true confession....................the other day I was having a very serious "talk" with my ds 13. I was so frustrated with him and was at the end of my rope. So in the middle of our little "talk" there was a little "poof" that came outa nowhere! I tried to continue on like it didn't happen but just watching the contortions on that poor boys face as he tried not to laugh, made me loose it and I started laughing. Anyway, the dang fiber totally ruined my teaching moment!:lmao:

Well, we had our first open house yesterday. And from what the Realtor told us, I think it went well. She said we had 11 groups go through, which I was very happy about. She said there were a lot of nice comments about the house, and everybody loved the yard. But the best news is that she said one couple seemed very interested, and spent a lot of time looking around. So she is going to follow up with their Realtor this week.

We worked really hard on Saturday getting the place ready. My parents, my wife's parents, and the wife and I spent pretty much all day Saturday cleaning up the yard (which honestly is the biggest selling point of this house). We took a lot of wood and lawn waste (leaves, branches, weeds, etc.) to the landfill. I think it took six trips to get everything cleared out. But I'm not all that good at lawn upkeep, so it needed a lot of TLC. I only ate two meals on Saturday, which isn't good. I had cereal for breakfast, and I didn't eat again until we treated ourselves to our favorite pizza place, Firehouse Pizza. So we'll see how my weigh in goes this week. Then we spent the rest of the night decluttering and "staging" the house for the open house (Roger from Sell this House would have been proud).

We are in a funny position with this. We are building a house, and we expect it to be ready by the end of July. So we want the house to sell, but we don't want it to sell too quickly. If it sells too fast, then we'll have to move twice; and we are going to have to either find an apartment that accepts dogs (and hope that our barky dog doesn't get us kicked out), or we'd have to live with our parents for a few months. That would mean we'd be back to dating, only seeing each other a couple times a week and having to talk on the phone every night. But I figure that would be a good problem to have. As long as the house sells, we can figure out the rest later.

All right, I'm off to catch up on what ever I've missed in the past 10-15 pages.

Sounds like ya'll are off to a good start.:thumbsup2

Jasper is almost a year old now. She, of course, still has mounds of energy! (Although not nearly as much as she used to have!) So, since you have older beagles, tell me...do they calm down more as they get older? How is Eli at 2yo? Jasper does great at most things, but there are a few things we need to work on with her. She just still has a short attention span. We think she has puppy ADD! :rotfl: Except at agility - she does great at class!

well, they definitely don't have as much energy as they used to. they both love to nap. sherman's number one hobby is napping! but since we got eli two years ago sherman has really become more energetic. they play hard for about an hour after dinner every night. there are two things that sherman and eli have NEVER learned to do: not jump on people when they first "greet" them and not beg when we're eating. it's just in the beagle nature to beg and i don't think there's anything you can do about it! don't know if jasper's as bad as my two, but they are hungry ALL THE TIME. beagles will eat until they burst if you let them - seriously. they don't have a sense of being full.

also, sherman sleeps a lot more than eli. of course, he's 9 years old, but he also takes phenobarbital before bedtime because he has seizures. so he sleeps through the night and doesn't get up until we do and eli is one to roam the house at night. they both sleep in the bedroom with us, but sherman sleeps on the bed at our feet and eli sleeps under the bed. if we have a house guest (like my dad or sister) eli will usually get up around 3:00 a.m. and go scratch on their door and sleep with them the rest of the night. they're so opposite of each other, but they just love each other so much! it's so cute!

but we really don't have a problem with chewing or anything like that any more. they have a good amount of energy, but they usually expend it on each other!

Are you going to be on the DDP? There is a link to my dining review in January. I have a lot of pictures of Le Cellier and Kona and CS meals.

yes, we'll be on the DDP. thanks for telling me about your review. i'll read it later tonight when i get a chance to sit down and do some dising!

I've had a busy busy weekend... I put a portion of my thoughts up on a blog that The DIs provides - so if you havent checked it out - why not? (You can locate your myspace type Dis page by going to the list under your PM box ^ up there, it says Profiles, drop down menu, and begin to work - I have my homepage set to private, so just ask me and I would love to have you as my friend!!)

Lynda, loved the pictures!! I love my canon!! It takes great pictures! and you're right, the boys are home, esp now since DS 18 gf is still in school - 5 more days - and his best friend went back to Ariz state!! Poor kid!

DS and fiance had her mom and me (had me had I.. yep its me!! :rotfl2: ) to look over the venue, and we talked and brainstormed... I hope I can lose 50# by '09 - oh I forgot to blog, when I said that outloud to DS and fiance - the both jumped on that I was fine the way I was... and a "Love you mom" then they followed up with another call later that night...

Meanwhile DH and I are in opposite corners (dagnabit I hate money woes!!) I'm going between smackin the putz upside the head, or bursting into tears... so far I've text messaged him - no response (I even had a hysterical one that started out sounding very naughty, but it was all about a toothbrush...:rotfl2: ) no response from him. So he comes home at night, and I go up to my room and read or flip tv channels!!

WIFan - I love that show! Good luck on the house sale!! But not too fast - either way, it will work out - PMA (Positive Mental Attitude!!)

:rotfl2: nasty fiber anyway... oh and

Happy Birthday S'late

Happy Mother's Day Jo!!

anybody working on those 20 min real life Dr. Oz "YOU ON A DIET" exercises? They are easy!!

oh, and about the water - 100oz, I'll look for the article, but its not enough to cause problems, esp if you do go potty, the lady that died from too much water was in a contest and couldnt go potty to win, she expressed not feeling well, and they ignored her worries and laughed at her - she drove home and thought it weird she still didnt have to go - off to find the article...

Happy Birthday, S'Late!

Happy Belated Mother's Day, Jo!

I'm not crazy right?

Not crazy at all!!!!!!!!!

The 100 plus ounces of water- Do you not worry about water toxicity? Hyponatremia, hypokalemia (low salt and low potassium) - both of these conditions can happen with an exaggerated water intake because the water pulls these vital elements out of your body's cells- if you get too much water, and mess up your balance of salt and potassium in your body you can mess up your heart - to the point that it can be fatal.

So if someone could ask- how much water is too much water?

Even without using a salt shaker, I still get a good bit of sodium... that one isn't a problem. As far as potassium, I've been making sure I eat potassium rich foods to help keep that balanced. I did an Internet search and found several lists of these foods that I happen to like and eat anyway.

From the American Heart Association...
Dried fruits: raisins, prunes, apricots, dates
Fresh fruits: bananas, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, oranges
Fresh vegetables: beets, greens, spinach, peas, tomatoes, mushrooms
Dried vegetables: beans, peas
Fresh meats: turkey, fish, beef
Fresh juices: orange
Canned juices: grapefruit, prune, apricot

Water consumption is proportional to your weight also... being bigger, I could/should drink more water than someone who weighs less.

WATER - We all know that water is important but what we don’t realize is that:

1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half world population)

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so
weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's
metabolism as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger
pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a
U-Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses
significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80%
of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy
short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and
difficulty focusing on the computer screen
or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the
risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash
the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is
50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

The body will not function properly without enough water and can't metabolize stored fat efficiently.

Retained water shows up as excess weight.

To get rid of excess water you must drink more water.

Drinking water is essential to weight loss. How much water is enough??

On the average, a person should drink eight 8-ounce glasses every day. That's about 2 quarts. However, the overweight person needs one additional glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight. The amount you drink also should be increased if you exercise briskly or if the weather is hot and dry. Water should preferably be cold - it's absorbed into the system more quickly than warm water. And some evidence suggests that drinking cold water can actually help burn calories. When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced. Once this happens you have reached the "breakthrough point". What does this mean?

Endocrine-gland function improves.

Fluid retention is alleviated as stored water is lost.

More fat is used as fuel because the liver is free to metabolize stored fat.

Natural thirst returns.

There is loss of hunger almost overnight.

If you stop drinking enough water, your body fluids will be thrown out of balance again, and you may experience fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and loss of thirst. To remedy the situation you'll have to go back and force another "breakthrough".

Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits. Here's why: The kidneys can't function properly without enough water. When the kidneys don't work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver. One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. If the liver has to do some of the kidney's work, it can't operate at full throttle. As a result, it metabolizes less fat, more fat remains stored in the body, and weight loss stops. Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. When the body gets less water, it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop. Water is stored in extra cellular spaces (outside the cells). This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands. Diuretics offer a temporary solution at best. They force out stored water along with some essential nutrients. Again, the body perceives a threat and will replace the lost water at the first opportunity. Thus, the condition quickly returns. The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give the body what it needs…PLENTY OF WATER. Only then will the stored water be released. If you have a constant problem with water retention, excess salt may be to blame. Your body will tolerate sodium only in a certain concentration. The more salt you eat, the more water your system retains to dilute it. But getting rid of un-needed salt is easy - just drink more water. As it's forced through the kidneys, it takes away excess sodium. The overweight person needs more water than the thin one! Larger people have larger metabolic loads. Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism, it follows that the overweight person needs more water. Water helps maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration. It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss - shrinking cells are buoyed by water, which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy, and resilient. Water helps rid the body of waste. During weight loss, he body has a lot more waste to get rid of - all the metabolized fat must be shed. Again, adequate water helps flush out the waste. Water can help relieve constipation. When the body gets too little water, it siphons what it needs from internal sources. The colon is one primary source. Result? Constipation. But, when a person gets enough water, normal bowel functions returns. So far, we've discovered some remarkable truths about water and weight loss:

Yesterday, I came up to school to get some of my backlog of grading done... and I could sit IN the desk... no problem! :yay:

Today, I student who left before Christmas returned, looked at me and said, "Did you lose weight?" and gave me a high five when I told her how much! :cool2:

I must say, in general, my Freshmen have been VERY supportive... :cheer2:

Water! Why drink at least two quarts a day?

Because that's roughly how much water we lose normally through perspiration, waste removal and other functions. Add sultry weather or enough exercise to break a sweat
and the amount of water needed to stay healthily hydrated - not to mention avoid fatigue, light-headedness, nausea, and even heat stroke - quickly climbs.

Additionally, water keeps your energy up, weight down, muscles strong, joints supple, digestive system smooth -- your whole system in physical balance.

Water:

1) regulates body temperature
2) makes up 83% of blood
3) removes waste
4) composes 75% of brain
5) helps carry nutients and oxygen to cells
6) moistens oxygen for breathing
7) helps convert food to energy
8) protects and cushions vital organs
9) helps body absorb nutients
10) accounts for 22% of bones
11) cushions joints
12) makes up 75% of muscles

It really depends on the person and their activity level as well as the weather. I find the more I drink the less I actually retain with my activity level and climate. Additionally because of diureteic effects of caffeine drinks you should have 1 8-ounce glass of water for each 8-ounce glass/cup of these you drink to minimize the effects.

On the other hand however, there is a thing as too much water. If you drink in excess of 8 liters without getting the proper other nutrients your body will actually start depleting
itself of those nutrients.

Are you Hungry? Many of us mix up food pangs with water cravings!
By Malcolm Stewart, PhD

As a clinical and health psychologist, I work with many people who want to lose weight for personal or medical reasons. It's not uncommon to hear complaints of intense hunger between regular eating times, no matter how satisfying their meals. For some people, it's puzzling, irritating hunger that makes them want to pick at food constantly. Others describe sharp cravings that demand immediate satisfaction.

Regardless, the effect is the same: Despite increasing their physical activity (perhaps the key weight loss technique), they can't lose unwanted pounds.

But a little-known fact both helps explain these food pangs - and provides a means to deal with them: Sometimes thirst masquerades as hunger. So you may think your body is asking for food when what it's actually asking for is water.

Your body needs water - a lot of water, every day - more than anything else except oxygen. We can live without food for a week or more if necessary, but not without water. If your body has just 2 percent less than it requires, you'll feel fatigued. A 10 percent shortfall can produce significant health risks. A week without water can be fatal.
Adults need six to eight 8-ounce glasses (about 1 ½ to 2 quarts) every day, more if you're large or physically active and even more if you drink much coffee, tea or cola, because the caffeine in these is a mild diuretic.

Why do we sometimes feel hungry when in fact we're thirsty? For one thing, many of us seem to have learned to interpret some signs of thirst as signs of hunger. For another, the body may seek food as a source of water because about 37 percent of our daily water intake comes from food. Fruits and vegetables are typically 70 to 95 percent water. Cooked meat is 50 to 60 percent. Even bread is made up of about 35 percent water.

So your body may signal that it's hungry in order to get more water through food. And because water is so important, the body gives off strong messages when it needs more, which is why thirst masquerading as hunger can be so compelling. Which would be fine if food didn't contain calories as well as water.

Being able to understand that sometimes "I'm hungry" really means "I'm thirsty" can help you react more healthfully, starting with drinking eight glasses daily. This takes a conscious effort for most of us, but it's easier if you make a habit of drinking water every time you do a particular activity - for instance, each time you go into the kitchen or
whenever you're about to make a phone call. You can also up your intake by using a larger glass or drinking a refill. Some people find "sipper bottles" convenient.

Now apply this to dealing with hunger between meals (which can be translated as "reach for water, not the ice cream"). If you feel hungry when it's not meal time, first have a large glass of water, then get busy doing something - keep at it for at least 20 minutes before you consider eating anything.

After drinking one glass, you may immediately want another. This is your body saying, "Yes! That was want I really wanted - give me more!" If you still feel hungry after 20 minutes, try having another glass of water, then get busy again.

People often feel like they're "bad" or "weak" if they feel hungry at times they think they shouldn't be. However, once you are aware that thirst can masquerade as hunger, you
realize that hunger pangs often are a legitimate request by the body - but for water rather than food.

This isn't a cure - all for curbing hunger, but I've learned from my practice that it can go along way toward beating between meal eating. And that can mean weight-loss success

Well THank God Sandy you know not funny I was owrrying and you are out having a good ole time for yourself!

OK I corssed my legs...sadly my chubby thighs have been in the way!

Have you guys seen that new Subway (or is it Quiznos???) commercial????

This couple are in a drive thru and the guy orders a "Blubber" and the lady orders "Thunder Thighs" with a side of "Buh Dunka-Dunk Butt" !!!!!

I just about laughed my bum off (which wouldn't be so bad!)

It's a great day!

yeah, i saw that and laughed, too! i think it was a subway commercial. i SO have thunder thighs and the buh dunka-dunk butt!!!!!

Thanks for the water info. I really appreciate it. I have been getting in 56 oz a night while at work which would be 7 of my 8 glasses. I'll have to work my way up- 56 is a lot for me. I have never been much of a water drinker. I want to lose 40 pounds so I guess I need to get my eight plus 1.5 more. Dont know if I can do that just yet. I feel like I have made a major change just by drinking the 56 and ordering water with my meals if we go out. But again, thanks I really do appreciate you taking the time to post the information.

Well, I'm off to the gym. I skipped yesterday but on Sat. I did 20 on the eliptical and 20 on the bike plus my arm work out- abs are still none existent. I can only manage 4 crunches- Back in the day-100 plus crunches was nothing for this ex- cheerleader and gymnast.

Still waiting for a taker on the "chewing monster mutt" :rotfl: No really- we love him- he is just on my last nerve today.

How are things going with the school placement for next year? Have you heard anything?
Thanks for asking, all letters have been sent, closing date is Friday but the appeals aren't scheduled until end of May to June :scared1: goodness knows why they need over 2 months to get things sorted, it's not really fair on the kids :confused3

BTW talking water did you know if you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated so you should drink before it happens, not that I do - whoops! Must try harder!

Sandy - we missed you! Thanks for the great water info!!!

I have a paper due tonight - do you think I have started? Of course not! Just not motivated...

Oh, and any suggestions for a really BAD DOG!! Or does anybody want a REALLY BAD DOG!!!
That 100 pound mutt is eating the vinyl siding off my house! Clear down to the insulation!
We gave him tons of toys, and chew bones- the big rawhide things- I have sprayed the house with that biter spray- Still chewing!
Last year he ate the water hose- I told DH to throw the hosepipe(southern venacular) back in the yard- its cheaper to replace than the siding on the house.

See YA!

Well, Sandy beat me to the punch on the water question, and did a mighty fine job, I must say! :)

Oh dear on the doggie issue! Yowza! Can't say that Jasper has ever done that! Hope you find a solution!

I feel like pooh: today.

And now I have to leave in 5 min. to go to class which takes me 45 min to get to (and 45 min. to get back home) only to sit in this useless class for an hour!

That is all.

well, they definitely don't have as much energy as they used to. they both love to nap. sherman's number one hobby is napping! but since we got eli two years ago sherman has really become more energetic. they play hard for about an hour after dinner every night. there are two things that sherman and eli have NEVER learned to do: not jump on people when they first "greet" them and not beg when we're eating. it's just in the beagle nature to beg and i don't think there's anything you can do about it! don't know if jasper's as bad as my two, but they are hungry ALL THE TIME. beagles will eat until they burst if you let them - seriously. they don't have a sense of being full.

but we really don't have a problem with chewing or anything like that any more. they have a good amount of energy, but they usually expend it on each other!

Jasper does enjoy some naps! (Thank goodness! ) If I am there, I can usually keep Jasper from jumping up on people, but she still tries. We have the kitchen gated off, and that is where she spends a lot of her time. (She hasn't yet learned to leave the cat, his food, and his toys alone, so we have to supervise her time in the living room, etc.) When we go to the gate, we ignore her until she sits, which she is getting very good at doing. She does hang out under foot when we are fixing meals. And she puts her front paws up on the cabinet. I can deal with the staring. I am just trying to get her not to jump up on the cabinets. I know about that beagle hunger! The breeder told us we will always have to feed her meals, that you can't free feed a beagle. Too bad Jasper likes to sleep through breakfast time! :rotfl: Oh well, if she does, she eats dinner really well. (And she gets a Kong stuffed with food during the day.) But I tell you what - if we are struggling with teaching her a particular thing, treats sure do the trick!

Jasper sleeps through the night. The breeder had her paper trained and told us NOT to get up in the middle of the night when we brought her home. She had us put half paper and half fleece in her crate and clean the paper in the morning. She slept through the night within about a week! Getting her off the paper was tricky though. She no longer has the paper, but because she is in the kitchen a lot, it is sometime hard to tell when she needs out. (Her signal for needing to go out is the same as her signal for wanting to be held or played with.) We are getting there though. We are also trying to have her in the living room more, so she can learn how to act in there.

Our biggest issue is coming when called, which I hate because I think it's so important! She can be VERY independent though! We will be working on this one more and more as the weather improves, and we can practice in the backyard. I also think she would do great with another dog, but I want her to be a little older and a little more trained before we go through the puppy thing again!

yes, we'll be on the DDP. thanks for telling me about your review. i'll read it later tonight when i get a chance to sit down and do some dising!
I already forgot the post about what you were considering, so bear with me, and do ask again!!
Pop Century - AMAZINGLY GREAT choices compared to WL and POR (imho!) someone did a dining review I thought was hysterical, the legendary Mr. Disney I believe! Anyway just know that the extreme colorful cheesecake doesnt turn your tongue blue, sad I say!!

MGM has the worst Counter Service choices, save them for Epcot, Pop, Boardwalk imho... at Pop you can use your snack choices for a whole box of donuts etc ( :rolleyes1 well there was a post at the top of the DDP that listed everything!)

Ding, time's up, dinner is reaady... ask me again please?!!

i basically was just posting our ADR's and getting opinions. also, any recommendations for MK and AK counter services are appreciated!

sunday: POP food court for early lunch (after we check in that morning); sci-fi theatre that night.

monday: le cellier for lunch; wolf gang puck express for dinner

tuesday: something at AK for lunch; narcoosee's for dinner (then off to the boardwalk after dinner)

wednesday: something at MK for lunch; kona cafe for dinner

That's a great line up...

For AK - we always eat at the Tuskar House, its on the way to the Safari line - on the left - across the street is the road that DeVINE hangs out in (and a fabulous Flight of Wonder show, but we love birds, owls, etc) but at that corner you can find some characters to get autographs, there is a window that sells ice cream dd loves... and I of course love the shop... oh I strayed there.. back to TUSKAR HOUSE!! :rotfl2: its main selling point is ITS AIR CONDITIONED!! I know lots of people rave about the Flame Tree BBQ, but by lunch I want to sit inside, no bugs, and no heat!! Its an art form to grab/swoop to get a table most of the time, the line is long, but the food is fab!! REALLY, I hear they may make it a TS place in the future, hope not, I dearly love it the way it is!!

I agree all the rave reviews for LeCellier are well worth it, just make sure you chat up your waitstaff person, they love to talk Canada, and it does make for a much grander experience, I'm also enabored with the creme bruelee dessert or the chocolate mousse!! YUM!!

MK for lunch - depends on which side of the park you're on - over in Tomorrowland is that place (someone will lol and tell the name!!) Well just know it has the most confusing ordering in the MK - each area has their own specialties, one area chicken, one sandwiches, one hamburger, and of course the best fixin bar (now we do tend to get the huge plate of ribs/chicken and split it, and end up with extra CS that we use for Breakfast credits - at Breakfast I get the egg platters and pay for a side of bacon and we split that!!)

With the DP - I dont spend money on the refillable mug, we always order the large soda with no ice, pop is cold - and we share that, and get an ice water (free, you need as much water as you can get!! Soda has too many calories, drink water, split the sodas!!)

MK Lunch over by Splash Mt around the corner from Pirates is the other CS section, I love the feel of that place, but I'm a country gal!! Mostly hamburgers there and a great fixin bar... MK used to have great desserts, but since the DDP they've standardized them, and they are hit and miss imho!!

Kona - I loved teryiaki so I was all about that place... but then the night of our ressies dd was spent, so I ordered a to go food, they packed it up great - dd just had a pbj, and I stopped at the Pop food court and picked up a bottle of wine - and we ate in our room, dd watched tv and just veged out - my favorite memory mind you!! :)

do drool over the menus at allearsnet.com and it will help you decide on some of the different counter service choices..

lots of people rave about the hot dogs at Casey's on main street, but I really think of a hot dog as a snack, and as I said, we split our breakfasts and lunches on the DP -

also at Tuskar house, dh is a big Salmon fan, and its great there..

at MGM - avoid ABC Commissary at all costs - no one likes the food there - order a beer if you must! You see its a large place, easy to find, and so there goes the crowds, but its not worth it...

over around the corner from Indiana Jones, and to the left of the Star Wars ride/Tour is a place that's a great find, but if its a slow day, they may not open the place dagnabit, but they have good salads, great fixin bar... but you have to time it just right, if you get there when Indy Jones lets out, you cant find a seat to save your life, get there in between shows, and the place seems dead, and we sat at the window, drank a few beers while we tried to find my mom!! The desserts there were good too, I think the low fat strawberry thing wasnt good tho...

Now you see why I dont write reviews or trip reports, I've probably confused you, ah but the stories I have of dragging my dad by cell phone into that place and put a beer in front of him, then off to drag dh and dd into the place standing in line again to meet their needs... then off to find my wandering mom!! :rotfl2: Its a wonder I survived that trip!!

eeyore45 - no, you didn't confuse me....i was following right along with you train of thought!! ;) i love any trip tips, so no worries. thanks for the info!
