Hi all,

I've been having a crazy (and not in a good way) past few weeks, so I've still been mostly lurking.

Punkin - Beautiful Pics!

Pakey - Your house sounds like my kind of Christmas. I love decorations, music, trees, lights, FOOD, etc, etc... Can I come celebrate with you this year???

:welcome: to all the newbies...

I've been struggling with some mild depression lately over my weight... I haven't lost any... :sad1: , turning 30 in Dec (but I will be celebrating my birthday at Disney:goodvibes ), and over my life in general. Anybody ever feel like they keep hitting a brick wall in their life??? :headache: Well, that's where I am right now... ugh...

 I think we all feel like that from time to time! Just remember we're all here for you! (Good times and tough times too!) Remember ....baby steps! Take it one day at a time!

Punkie- i like the first picture, if you can photo shop out the red-trunks dude! It's sooooo cute, as are all of the pictures. I usually like candids best though.

I liked that one too minus the guy in the background. ;) I say buy whatever picture you like because they were all good.

Guess what everyone? I had a raging case of the stomach flu yesterday and skipped THREE meals (I KNOW!) lets hope I got over my funk and lost a little! Today, I've been super careful not to undo any possible flu-benefit :rolleyes1 (cheater!!!!) Am I the only one who sees the bright side of the stomach flu? :rotfl:

That is how I ALWAYS view the stomach bug! Instant weightloss! :rotfl2:

I don't remember who asked about the Christmas tree, but we are FAKE people here. I love being able to move the branches where I need them in order to hang an ornament to cover up a "blank spot" on the tree. ;) We usually set ours up the first weekend in December.

oh phooey..i just multi quoted and it got all gobbled up by the disboard thread gremlins..ah well..lets see if I can remember what i was going to say..

Dawn, love the picture..you have to buy it..its an order! ;)

I think it was Shannon that said that its hard to believe Thanksgiving will be here in 16 days..i still have 3.7 to lose before then...aaaack!!!

I hope everyone had a lovely Monday..i have to say, i certainly enjoyed not having to go to the Toxic Wasteland of my former work! ;)

Good morning all.

Christmas tree. I do a real tree, white flocked. I'm just a tad anal about Christmas. My family calls me the Christmas Nazi and says that I suck the joy out of the holiday season with my anal decorating. I start the day after Thanksgiving. Tree is done first and it takes about 4 days to complete. My main interior house color is eggplant (not on the walls) so I had 250 glass Christmas ornaments painted in a custom eggplant color that exactly matches the color in my window coverings. Each ornament is hung on a gold ribbon that was matched from the trim on my sofa accent pillows. I also use angel ornaments and crystal icicles to accent the tree. All of my presents that go under the tree will coordinate with these colors.

After the 4 days on the tree, I then take down all of my artwork in the entire house (and I have some huge pieces of art) and wrap them in wrapping paper with bows and put them back on the walls so that they look like Christmas presents. Each room in the house has a different theme--snowman, angel, nutcracker, santa, etc. and the paper has to match that theme. I'm always on the lookout for paper.

Then I decorate each room in the theme. I have about 55 storage boxes full of decorations.

Last to be done are my dolls. I collect very high-end German dolls that are anywhere from 2 1/2 - 3 feet tall. I have 45 of them. They all have Christmas outfits so I have to change all of their clothes. These dolls are on plant shelves that are 12 feet up so it's great exercise going up and down the ladder getting each of these dolls. Then each of these dolls has an ornament that they hold so I have to mess with that.

All in all, it takes me about 2 weeks to decorate and I listen to and sing very off-key Christmas carols the entire time. I didn't do anything for Christmas last year because I found out I had cancer right before Thanksgiving and I just wasn't in the mood. So I'm really looking forward to it this year.

All decorations are taken down the day after Christmas. We always go on vacation in January and I want it done before we leave. Dolls stay in their Christmas outfits until beginning of February.

When the boys were little, they had their own Christmas tree, they took turns each year on which bedroom it went in. That way they could decorate themselves and leave "my tree" alone.

I have rightfully earned my derogatory nickname and comments. I can't understand why but DH and all 3 DS's just don't care much for the holiday.:rotfl2:

I was skimming and saw this.

OH. MY. GOSH!!!!!
I want to see pictures!
And people call me a nazi for only allowing Disney ornaments on my tree!!!!!

Last year I had to compromise a tiny bit. We had a friend living with us and he loves diet coke. his then girlfriend bought him a diet coke ornament. I decided that since Mickey only drinks coke, it was acceptable.
barely.
there was also a photo frame of the two of them - but that was taken at Disney world (they were in their stylish opera glasses from mickey's philharmagic) when we had gone the previous october, so that was also acceptable.
hehehehe.

the bad thing is I bought a really cute charlie brown ornament last year that plays music - it has to go on the minature tree.
and looks really out of place because it's huge compared to the tree.

thanks for all your compliments on the pictures!!!!

Dawn I agree with everyone else. Buy the photo. It's a gorgeous setting and you guys look great. If I looked like you, I wouldn't have to buy art to cover my walls. The only photo of me in our house is a Tower of Terror drop pic with all of the kids in it too so I'm not very noticable.

i'm sure you're gorgeous! :goodvibes we are all our own worst critics. for example...i HATE my hair in those pictures. i didn't blowdry it because i wanted it wavy but the wind just sort of makes it look frizzy.

:headache: Well, that's where I am right now... ugh...

Tia, I also felt like you. I hit 50 June 06 and was so depressed about my life, my physical self (being overweight and extremely out of shape) as well as the fact that I was a workaholic and had no life outside of work. I was on antidepressants and was getting to the point where other than work, I refused to leave my house. I knew that I was very unhappy but I didn't know how to change anything. I just felt trapped. A few months later I was diagnosed with my breast cancer and my entire perspective changed.

Life here on this planet is finite. It will come to an end. We owe it to ourselves to make every day as good as we can. We cannot wait on some external force to make it better, we have to do it for ourselves and we cannot put it off. I have no idea if I will beat cancer; the odds are pretty good that I will not. However, I refuse to waste another day being unhappy with the person I am. I'll never be 25 with a hot bod again and there is nothing I can do to get those years back but I can work towards at least feeling good that I can get up out of a chair without a struggle, that I can walk all day at WDW without getting fatigued, etc. I make sure to spend time every day doing something that makes me smile and I do make that effort every day to think about the positives in my life. When I go, I want to be able to say "yes, Faith, you filled your life."

You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I've seen your photo so I know you are beautiful and I know you are incredibly talented so I believe you can find all these great things within you.

what she said. EXACTLY.

Punkie- i like the first picture, if you can photo shop out the red-trunks dude!

tell me about it!!!! people were killing me with how close they were standing to the wedding. and i'm talking about DURING THE CEREMONY. there was one couple in swimsuits standing directly behind chris's parents....about 3 feet behind them! :confused3 and i was filming and once i turned around to find a shirtless man with a huge beer gut holding a budweiser can standing directly behind me. i don't understand.....there's a wedding going on that doesn't include you.....watch from afar!!!!

i'm off to eat my lean cuisine lasagna. hope everyone had a good monday!!!

I'm sitting at my mom's, waiting on the girls to finish dance class. Just thought I'd catch up.

Dawn - your pictures are great.

Christmas decorating? Yikes, I'm still trying to plan Thanksgiving! I am the family member (only girl) who usually ends up hosting EVERY holiday. I'm thinking about skipping the usual fare and having a chili dinner. And, I'm thinking everyone can bring a pot of chili or soup. I'll supply the fixins, cornbread, drinks & dessert. The best part is our big TV broke so I don't have to worry about watching football! If my brothers are really desperate I guess they can watch on the little TV. My family loves watching sports - somehow it didn't wear off on me and my Dh isn't much of a sports fan either.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

subbing so I can read through this thread later. I need soo much help and really really want to lose weight.

Quick post... I skimmed the last few posts but likely won't go back through all 10 pages I missed. I do love the pic, Dawn!

Trip was really fun but WAY too short. I actually managed to effect my first DIS meet... met up with someone from the solo travelers forum since I was solo on Sunday. She was a blast!!

I love Food&Wine... ate way too much, drank way too much, but man, mmm.

So, today starts back to hard core. I really am considering buying myalli to start on Friday. Tell me to spend the money!!

i dunno Kat- are you talking about the alli stuff thats sposed to help your body get rid of bad stuff?

Pakey- you are so eloquent I admire your strength

Tia- its gonna be ok. you are gonna be fine. remember not "everything" about you is what shows on the outside, its what's on the inside that is so much more important...

hey everyone - i'm just stopping in to say hi:wave: its been a while, not cuz i dont care- life's just been really busy lately...my progress on my Turkey day goal is that i am 3.5 lbs away from the 8 that i had set for myself. that'll put me below the 180's and i hope to never get back there again. whats different now? Well, I made a serious commitment to myself that i deserve this. I have teamed up with people who support me, not just you guys, but friends at work and at the gym who push me to be better and do better and try harder and to realize that forsaking the goal of better health for a piece of halloween candy isnt really worth it. I have managed to some how break the cycle of mindless noshing and emotional eating by realizing the i am either bored, thirsty, or upset. and those arent reasons that i need to eat. I havent really gone to a diet other than trying to eat things that are good for me. and i'm eating good protein to help me stay full longer and so far iam eating less. I did fall victim to pizza last night...but it was short lived.

but today my clothes were very loose on me...and it felt awesome! Maybe, just maybe I am on the right track this time...i'll let you know!

If anyone has any suggestions - I'm listening -
Sorry you aren't feeling well, Sandy. A friend had a couple of bouts with vertigo, and later she found out that it was related to a broken tooth that needed work. She got the work done and hasn't had anymore trouble.

GOOD MORNING! :sunny:

Faith! I've never even been to California!? I KNOW! But if that's where the paid vacation is, I'm willing to move. ;) That is a perk I have never heard of before. RE: pictures....if photobucket you can edit your pictures to avatar size and it makes them the size of my signature picture.
(you should go to California!) I kind of liked the way the new rules "cropped" your picture! It was a neat look! But it's good this way too.

WELCOME!! to all the newbies. Anyhoo, this weekend just reminded me that the holiday binge fest is bearing down quickly and it is time to make a plan -- so I am working on my holiday eating resolutions.

I'm starting with:

1. I will not count calories all the way through the season, but I will plan indulgences.

2. I will only eat "cheat" items if I REALLY love them -- i.e. mashed potatoes do not have to pass my lips, but dressing will.

3. I will eat normal portions and pay attention to when I am hungry. I will not have seconds.

4. I will not drink my calories. (But I will have one glass of cider this fall -- hot so it lasts).

5. I will not go to open houses or h'orderves nights hungry -- while there I will keep my drink cup full to keep my hands busy and I will stand more than an arms length from the food. I will plan to have a few "little somethings" while I am there.

6. I will remember that I can have anything that I want, but I am responsible for what passes through my lips.

Anybody else?
I want to Welcome the newbies too!

Look like you have some good plans going into the holidays!
What's the saying?! "Fail to plan is a plan to fail!

i've been MIA this weekend. my brother and sister were in town so we could get our picture made for my dad for christmas. my brother is seriously considering moving here so i've been dealing with that. he wants to get away from the circle of friends who he believes is bringing him down. so many issues with that i don't even know where to start! anyway, that's what my weekend consisted of.
love your pics from the wedding. They all looked great!

We are fake tree people. We would decorate over Thanksgiving weekend but we go visit my brother and family over Thanksgiving and help them decorate and then come home and decorate the week after. I dread the taking down of the decorations. I hate that part!

AND, I just updated my TR in case you're bored..shamelss plug!
I want to read it! I can't believe I'm not, but I'm so far behind!

I should be working on report cards, but i thought I'd pop by first.:wave2:
Guess what everyone? I had a raging case of the stomach flu yesterday and skipped THREE meals (I KNOW!) lets hope I got over my funk and lost a little! Today, I've been super careful not to undo any possible flu-benefit :rolleyes1 (cheater!!!!) Am I the only one who sees the bright side of the stomach flu? :rotfl:

I WILL make my 5 pound goal for Thanksgiving, Dang it!!! I will come by it honestly, though. I am trying! I pass up fatty or sugary food. Yup!
We've all had the stomach flu this weekend, but I've been lucky enough not to barf. I just have a pain in the sawdust and very little appetite. At one point, I thought, why can't I have this small an appetite all the time? This must be what it's like for the naturally thin. On the down side, no exercise for the last 2 days. I went to bed at 8:45 last night, and I am just exhausted. This is not a good time of year to take a sick day, so both my teaching partner and I just dragged through the day.

thanks for all your compliments on the pictures!!!!

Love the picture. I'm tempted to save your quote about the wedding. Our church doesn't perform outdoor weddings usually, and when we lead pre-marriage retreats, people always complain about it. I'll have to add, "No topless men with beer guts in your pictures," to the benefits of a church wedding.:rotfl:

subbing so I can read through this thread later. I need soo much help and really really want to lose weight.

Welcome. Jump right in and post away.

OK, I've procrastinated long enough. Back to report cards.

Before I sign off to go read my book, I had to tell you guys that I almost almost had a piece of candy corn this afternoon. There's a bowl at work that's been there since the 30th (and yes Aaron, I did think of your bowl). I was standing by the copier and looking at it. I started thinking, gosh, how much can it hurt to have one piece of candy corn, after all it's really small. I reached out my hand just a little and then I thought "you idiot, candy corn isn't even one of your favorite candies". Seriously, I hardly like the stuff.

So I didn't do it. And to punish myself I did my 2 mile walk and then came home and got on the treadmill for another mile and a half at endurance mode. That'll teach me to stay strong.

If I hadn't met you guys, I would have had the candy corn. So thanks everyone for the continued support.

Who here gets a real tree for Christmas? Alos, when do you guys put up your trees--fake or real?
We do a real tree! I just can't do fake...I know some of them are really lovely, but it's just that smell...and it's not the same, to me, from a spray can! We usually go to a Christmas tree farm the weekend after Thanksgiving and put it up shortly after.
BTW, I notice you are from Hattiesburg...I live in Terry (outside of Byram...outside of Jackson, if you don't already know that)...where do you go to tag yours? I'm assuming a Christmas tree farm as well.
As for decorating it...My DH and I started a tradition of buying a Christmas ornament every time we go on vacation, so our tree is filled w/ those, ornaments our DD1 has made, and other family ornaments. We definitely don't have the "pretty" tree...but it's pretty to me! Although, we have a huge picture window in our upstairs bonus room, so this year I'm thinking of doing a fake tree up there and decorating it all pretty.

i think i'm going to buy this picture that was taken at anna's (wonderwoman) wedding a couple of weeks ago. the photographer is a friend of ours and says she'll sell it to me for a reasonable price. you guys know how i am about pictures.....just had to share! :goodvibes

http://www.dc4uinc.com/gallery/3697510#214818240
Those pics of y'all are all great! You should definitely buy it!

Dawn
I was wondering how ya'll do with eating out? It's the area where I feel the most pain. Is it better to just avoid going out? I don't feel like I'm depriving myself at home or with the lunches I take to work. I'm fine with that. But as soon as I get into a restaurant I notice that I struggle. And instead of enjoying the outing with DH, I leave feeling kind of bummed because I missed out on something. DH and I used to eat out 3-4 times per week (I do not cook at all) but when I look at menus, I don't see anything healthy that sounds good. I want the stuff I used to eat. Any tips?
I am the SAME way! I also do not cook...my DH is the cook of our family (actually thought about going to culinary school)...he used to have time to cook every night w/ his old job, but now, not so much. So, while I was pg and didn't care about my weight gain, we went out to eat A LOT! we're both trying to do better with that, but I'm the same way...when we DO go out to eat, I'd almost rather not be there b/c I feel like I'm missing out on all the good stuff! Would love to hear some tips for this, too!

:rotfl:
No, you are not alone in thinking that! :rotfl:

Oh, and one more thing...what the heck does it mean to be gobbled? I've seen a lot of you talking about it, and I am clueless!

THERE'S A BIRTHDAY TODAY!
IT'S ONE OF OUR PEEPS WHO'S BEEN AROUND THE LONGEST AND IS ALWAYS THERE EVEN IF SHE DOESN'T ALWAYS "SHOW" HERSELF....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TINKABELLA!!!

Hope it's your most wonderful birthday ever, Kim!

:headache: :headache: :headache: :headache:

That is how I feel today. I have been changing my whole way of eating since Thursday. I am back to drinking enough water to support an aquarium, I cut out soda and am really watching what I eat. I am also exercising. Well you know how much I lost so far? NOTHING!!!! I wasn't expecting 30lbs but a pound would have been nice. I am also breastfeeding so I make sure to make healthy choices. I am not going to quit but I admit that I do feel a bit defeated today. I feel like a lump. Oh well, pity party over. Just wanted to vent. Congrats to all that are doing great!

Oh- and I would like to join the ranks of the Uber Christmas decorators! We are out of control at the holidays as well! Although I am not sure if I will do it all this year. Yeah- and it's not just Christmas, we do big outdoor Halloween display too! We love the holidays!

GOOD MORNING! :sunny:

No school due to election day today! :cool1: I have a good 20ish minutes to squander!

Dawn....I love the picture! I also love the color one of you and Ray right next to the black/white one you like. You look beautiful! Love the dress and necklace!

TIA.....:grouphug: Everytime I'm down I try to count my blessings. Try to focus on the things you have to be thankful for and not the negative things in your life. You're young, beautiful, healthy, and talented.....now just take it from there.

Faith....I love your pep talk. I'm going to bookmark it to read again when I'm feeling down. I sing loundly and off key in my car every single day of the week. It's worse at Christmas! You should hear me and Celine Dion sing "O Holy Night".

Heather....Fake tree! We bought a tall, skinny tree a few years ago and we love it! It's the perfect shape/size for our living room. I like to splurge on a Mistletoe candle from Yankee Candle to get the smell. No needles and no expensive tree when I should be saving my money for presents. ;) Plus...I usually find that no matter when you buy the tree, it was probably cut down a month before and starts to shed needles almost immediately...especially as dry as this summer was. KWIM.

Nancy! I KNOW! I want to travel! Maybe when the kids are gone and married....they are so expensive! My picture looks the same to me. What did you see when you looked at it?

MJ
....Loved your list! :cool2: It makes so much sense.

EVERYBODY ELSE.
....:wave2:

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

read the whole thing? :scared1: see ya in a few years! seriously.....just jump right in!

So, today starts back to hard core. I really am considering buying myalli to start on Friday. Tell me to spend the money!!

be careful......i've heard adult diapers are a requirement. :scared:

whats different now? Well, I made a serious commitment to myself that i deserve this. sandy...i wasn't around this weekend and didn't read back, so i just saw that you weren't feeling well. hope you're feeling better!!!

hi, AnnNan!!

I'll have to add, "No topless men with beer guts in your pictures," to the benefits of a church wedding.:rotfl:

seriously! thank goodness for photo shop!

If I hadn't met you guys, I would have had the candy corn. So thanks everyone for the continued support.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TINKABELLA!!!

DITTO FROM ME!!!!!! have a great day! :flower3:

Oh, and one more thing...what the heck does it mean to be gobbled? I've seen a lot of you talking about it, and I am clueless!

see that little turkey down there in my signature? if you get the link for that little guy in a PM, you've been gobbled. if you're interested in getting gobbled, let me know. that sounds really weird, doesn't it?

You should hear me and Celine Dion sing "O Holy Night".

:lmao:

i've been changing up my routine at the gym lately and i thought i'd share. when i just can't do class i get on the treadmill instead. i start out at 3.5 miles an hour for 3 minutes, then i switch to 4.3 mph for another 3 minutes (jogging - pronounced "yogging" with a soft J. :rotfl2: that's a reference from "anchorman." sorry.) then i switch back to 3.5 mph for 3 minutes and vice versa. i do this for at least 30 minutes, more if i have time. it's really good for someone like me who loves the benefits of running, but can't physically do much of it because of knee problems. you probably already know this, but it's called interval training and it helps you burn fat more quickly during your other workouts. :thumbsup2

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TINKABELLA!!!

Hope it's your most wonderful birthday ever, Kim!

Thanks Melinda :) ! ...yes...I was lurking here early this morning:surfweb: ...Thanks so much for remembering :cloud9: . My DH surprised me a new Pink dell laptop computer. It is very cute and I have wanted one for quite a while. I will spend most of today moving all my "stuff" over to my new machine. We will be going to my sister's house for dinner (we do this every Tuesday) and I am picking up a Dairy Queen blizzard cake to bring along. But, I will have only a tiny, skinny slice :rolleyes1 .

Parkey..your tree sounds beautiful. I used to have a stunning tree that was covered in velvet cream pointsetta flowers and gold balls. My DH called it my "department store tree" now we do a "family" tree that is covered in kiddie crafts, that is also beautiful, just in a different way. Have you ever seen the trees at Disney during the holiday season ? talk about amazing. The second week of December is one of my favorite times to go as most of the decorations are up but it is still pretty quiet.

Punkin...What great pictures ! you are a stunnng Peep !

WQendy and Sandy: I am sending you peeps lots of Pixie dust so you will feel better soon.pixiedust:

MJ Mouse... what great idea's for the holidays. I think planning your "treats" in advance is key. I play bunko once a month and I also try to be really careful the day before because I know I will be snacking on lots of "goodies".

Harley...Do you not just LOVE that feeling when you clothes start to get loose ! :thumbsup2

Hope all you peeps keep drinking your water and have a super skinny day! :goodvibes
