Disappearing Peep Ditches Diet on the DDP! Lots of Pics! - Completed pg. 11!

Stacey,

You are just having a heck of a time! I'll be thinking about you! I'll send you some :wizard: so you can get back to the great dining reviews! I still haven't made all of my ADR's for our April trip.

Thanks for the hug! Needed it! Planning adrs is my favorite thing to do!

Yeah, Jo, I agree with Stacey. It's not spicy....it very flavorful. There wasn't anything I found too spicy, and I'm a wimp. I have a low tolerance for spicy hot food.

Stacey: Great Job! :thumbsup2 I'm really enjoying your food porn. Wish we had smell-o-internet! Forget about Mickey... I'm looking forward to all the good eats! Shhh... don't tell DS! :rolleyes1

Tracy, I am so with you on this. I love Disney World, but the food makes it great!

Wednesday: Pizzafari at AK and Le Cellier in Canada

I have so many Le Cellier pics that I will probably have to divide this into two posts. Again with a party of six, we were able to try many different foods!

Lunch - Pizzafari

Okay, this was a busy day. We went to AK, MK and Epcot! While we were at AK, we decided to try Pizzafari. I had been craving pizza! I split a pepperoni pizza and chocolate cake with my DS. Loved the chocolate cake - tasted fresh and very moist. I thought this was good for a CS, to be honest, next time I think I would eat here of Flame Tree. I also love Tusker House. Pizzafari gets an A (good for a CS).

Snack – Sleepy Hollow

When we went over to MK, I was not hungry at all! But this is vacation after all and I had wanted a funnel cake since Day One! We were in Tomorrowland and funnel cakes are at Sleepy Hollow in Frontierland – so I had to convince everyone that this was worth the trip to the other side! And it was! Here is a pic of my DD holding the funnel cake that we shared (okay, I ate most of it and let her have a few bites).

Dinner – Le Cellier

This is the only adr that we repeated from last year. I was somewhat of newbie last year and did not even think of making ressies until I stumbled on the Dis. One of the recommendations that I heard several times was Le Cellier. Most of my other adrs were forgettable. We loved it last year, so this is the one I was really looking forward to this year. We only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. Le Cellier is definitely a small, intimate type of restaurant. I know most people think it is too dark and cellar like – but that is the point. I like it. Of course when you cram it to capacity – it is a little loud. Last year, we had a late lunch here and the place was empty. This time…it was quite full. But hey I work at a preschool and I come from a large, loud family So it did not bother me at all. ;) These are pics from the outside and the inside of Le Cellier.

Appetizers

Our waitress was nice but hurried. She did tell us what province we were in, but it was kind of like this, “Um we’re suppose to tell ya what province you’re sitting in and I think this is like, Ontario (not sure that is the province she said - just the only one I remember). Would you like to go ahead and order your drinks, appetizers and entrees?” Anyway…she was nice, just busy. First of all this is the famous pretzel bread and other bread. She didn’t give us all the descriptions that we got last year.

AKMKEpcot105.jpg

Beef and Barley Soup - rich beef broth and fresh vegetables – DMIL ordered this. Odd choice to me, didn’t look good. But to each their own and she liked it. :confused3

AKMKEpcot102.jpg

Crab and Salmon Timbale - smoked salmon layered with Canadian rock crab, mascarpone cheese, and citrus syrup – DD likes salmon and did not know what to order. This was expensive so in her mind, must be good. She was not impressed. I ended up giving her most of my shrimp and I ate this. Looks right off of Top Chef doesn’t it! It was okay. Tasted like strong, creamy cheese, wrapped with smoked salmon. I do not like salmon, so I would not have ordered this. The things we do for our children!

AKMKEpcot103.jpg

Shrimp Cocktail - wasabi slaw and horseradish chili sauce – The rest of us ordered this. No one really cared for the famous cheese soup last year, but we all liked the shrimp. It has a little kick to it. Last time it came in a cute little Chinese box, but that must have become too costly. It is still good. I especially love the spicy cole slaw – great! :thumbsup2

Next installment: Le Cellier – Entrees and Desserts!

I love all the pictures.:thumbsup2 My DD ate my shrimp at Le Cellier too.:goodvibes Pizzafari was perfect for my kids,I think that AK has the best CS.

I think AK and Epcot have the good CS's. MK is okay and MGM seem to be lacking in that department. IMO, MGM is just lacking all together. When we were there the RnR was closed. So after riding ToT, we were like, okay... now what do we do? It needs some new updated attractions. We did like the car show and Indiana Jones is always a favorite.

I have to agree here, Stacey. Next time I'll do RnR, ToT, Beauty and the Beast and that's it! Out by 10:30. Actually one of the best things we did at MGM was to sit down and watch the streetmosphere performers. We'll try to do more of that next time too.

Loved your latest installment. I agree that Le Cellier was not crowded enough to bother me. With all the complaints about how crowded and noisy it was, I was surprised because I thought it was just fine. The food was very good and although the steaks were overcooked, we will definitely go again.

My biggest mistake......not ordering the PEI mussels. DH had them and they were the BEST!

We stayed at AKL last year but never hit Boma. We are staying there again this year and after all the reviews it is on the list.

One day I will get brave enough to order the mussels. I do not like mussels normally, but they get such rave reviews!

I think you will love it. I would really like to try Jiko too.

Must have more food porn....you are great!

Love you too, S'late! I am about to post the rest of Le Cellier. I start my new class tomorrow, so I had better get moving with this review!

We also tried Boma for the first time last Sept. I requested the recipe for the seafood chowder and never received it :confused3 . Would it be possible for post the chowder and soup recipes? My pm box is full until I go and delete some stuff...yes, I'm a pm packrack. Sorry if you posted this earlier somewhere- if so, just direct me there! Thanks!

Here are the two recipes. Where do you get fish stock and clam juice? And how do you toast curry and cumin powder?

COCONUT CURRY SEAFOODBoma – Flavors of AfricaDisney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

4 cups Fish Stock
2 cups Clam Juice
1 each Onion, diced in big chunks
1 each Red Bell Pepper, diced in big chunks
2 each Carrots, diced in big chunks
2 T. Curry Powder, toasted
2 T. Ground Cumin, toasted
3 cups Coconut Milk
2 cups Mussels
2 cups Shrimp
2 cups Scallops, sear
3 T. Curry Paste
3 T. Soy Sauce
3 T. Sugar
1 each Jalapeno, sliced
2 each Potatoes, diced in big chunks
¼ cup Parsley, chopped
¼ cup Cilantro, chopped
1 each Lemon, zest and sliced
To taste Salt and Pepper

Method of Preparation

1. Heat the fish stock and clam juice.

2. Add the vegetables (except jalapeno, parsley, cilantro, and lemon zest) and spices. Cook until the vegetables are half done.

3. Sauté seafood and deglaze with lemon juice and fish base. Add coconut milk, curry paste, soy sauce, sugar, and jalapeno.

5. Let simmer until mussels open. Add parsley, cilantro, and lemon zest before serving.

GOLD COAST SHE CRAB SOUPBoma – Flavors of AfricaDisney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

2 cups Water
2 cups Clam Juice
4 tablespoons Chicken Bouillon Granules
2 tablespoons Fish Bouillon Granules
½ cup Heavy Cream
½ cup Milk
8 ounces Crab Meat
8 ounces Lump Crab Meat
½ cup Spanish Onions, small dice
1 teaspoon Thyme, diced
½ teaspoon Garlic, granulated
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
¼ teaspoon Tabasco Sauce
¼ teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1 cup Cape Indaba Sauvignon Blanc
½ stick Butter
2/3 cup Flour

Method of Preparation

1. Melt butter in sauce pan over medium heat. Whisk in flour until well blended to make a roux. Lower heat to simmer and stir roux occasionally. If too dry, add a little more butter until it is the consistency of peanut butter. Cook for two minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.

2. Add onions. Cook one minute.

3. Add all liquids, one at a time, then spices, seasonings, and herbs. Stir well, bring just to a boil and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.

4. Taste and adjust seasonings if desired. Finally add crab meat and stir gently so as not to break up the lump crab meat too much.

Entrees

Alright, sorry about the interruption. Long wait between appetizers and entrees. Once again at this restaurant the food was served rather quickly. Today, it was a good thing though, we still had a lot we wanted to see.
DS ordered the kids steak and fries (he had grapes for his dessert). Let me just tell ya, DS was in a very bad, tired mood at this point. Some time before the entrees arrived, DH leans over the table and very loudly informs DS that if he does not adjust his attitude that he is going to take him to the bathroom and “beat” him! All the sudden the restaurant did seem quite small and everyone was within earshot of that announcement! :sad2: We do not beat our kids, spank yes, but not beat. DD and I both wanted to crawl under the table. Anyway, DS’s meal came out, he ate a few bites and fell asleep – thankfully. :cloud9: We left him alone and took his dessert to go. Below is a pic of is meal and his much needed nap!

AKMKEpcot113.jpg

Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - Baby Bella wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce, topped with fried parsnips – DD and I both ordered this med. rare. She ordered it with the cream cheese potatoes and I stuck with the risotto. After Kona, I knew that I liked risotto. This was such a great filet. Cooked perfectly!!! I just love their steaks and will probably book this place every time we go to WDW. The risotto was also good, but I think I liked Kona’s a little better. I don’t think I have ever had fried parsnips, but they were great with the risotto. Below are DD’s steak and mine.

AKMKEpcot111.jpg

AKMKEpcot106.jpg

Creamed Spinach Gratinee – I ordered this too (OOP) because it sounded so good. I can’t remember what kind of cheese was in this. It tasted like the cheddar soup cheese. This was the best creamed spinach I have ever eaten! And it was huge. Me and DMIL could not eat it all. I wonder if next time they would just let me order this for my appetizer. At the top you can also see the side of grilled asparagus that DMIL ordered. This was good…for asparagus.

AKMKEpcot112.jpg

7 oz. Filet Mignon - glazed with maple barbecue sauce and accompanied by cream cheese mashed potatoes – DMIL ordered this and changed the mashed potatoes to roasted potatoes. She really liked the sauce. I did not try it.

AKMKEpcot108.jpg

14 oz. New York Strip Steak - with sauteed leeks, frisee, and roasted Yukon gold potatoes, and finished with veal demi glace – DH and DFIL had this (you know bigger is better mentality). They both enjoyed it. I think the filet is much better! DH is not as impressed with this place as I am, but it is because he is not ordering the filet!

AKMKEpcot109.jpg

Desserts – I just love this part of the meal!
I was quite full by this point, but that has never stopped me before! So I ordered the Whiskey Chocolate Cake. It had this wonderful cream to pour over it! Rich and chocolatey – this was great! One of the best cakes of the week (and I ate a lot of chocolate cake). DD and I split this because the kids no longer get the Chocolate Moose on the DDP. So we used her credit to order DS’s moose. They boxed the moose up for DS and he ate it during illuminations. He said it was better last year. He threw away most of it. I hated that for him because he was really looking forward to this dessert. But it is still cute!

AKMKEpcot116.jpg

AKMKEpcot117.jpg

In-laws had the sorbet. I know one is raspberry, but I can’t remember what flavor the other one was. They both enjoyed their desserts. I am not a big sorbet fan. Give me the chocolate!

AKMKEpcot115.jpg

DH ordered the Crème Brulee. I believe one side is maple and one is vanilla. DH loves the Crème Brulee here. I did not get a taste of his, but it was good last year.

AKMKEpcot114.jpg

Whew!!! That was a big meal! But we loved it. Once again Le Cellier gets an A!!!

Next installment: Flatbread Grill and 50’s Prime Time Café at MGM

Stacey, Le Cellier looks delicious. When we were there my sister wanted to try this place but we didn't have enough time (and we didnt have ADRs) so we just let it go. I am sorry we didnt get to try a lot of the great restaurants that Disney has to offer. I am thinking that we need a do over trip. DH thinks that I have lost my mind. Next time we will do the dining plan and I already have a list of the places that I want to try, thanks to you. ;) :thumbsup2

I can absolutely relate to the story about your DS. We often have moments like you described.

I don't know if you already know about this, but if you go to allears.net they have recipes for a lot of the food served throughout Disney. I once tried to make Boma's recipie for Pineapple Upside down Cheesecake. It had a white chocolate crust.. YUMMY. (let me know if you need help finding the recipie section)

Ok now I'm hungry.. gotta go.. Melissa

I did not know they had recipes on allears.net! Maybe they have Ohana's banana fosters bread pudding!

Pineapple upside down cheesecake!! Wow, that sounds amazing! They were not serving that when we were there! You should make it and invite me and Heather over! (sshhh, just don't tell the Peeps, we will drink water)

Oh funnel cake, I love funnel cake and you can't get it any where over here, some of my snack credits will definately get funnel cake (do you think I like funnel cake :rotfl2: )

Le Cellier is definately on my ADR list which I can book in just over 2 weeks :yay: My DD just came in and was drooling over the steak, I think it will be 14 days of steak for her, very healthy. :rotfl2:

Count me in---just tell me when--or hey you could come over to my house.

We had funnel cakes twice! Love them! And very low fat! My DD is the same way. Steak and salmon all week, she was in heaven!

Count me in---just tell me when--or hey you could come over to my house.

Sounds like a plan to me! We could each make a Disney recipe to bring. Kind of like meal replacement! My house is available too. And we can share our Disney pics, because everybody here is tired of looking at mine. :sad2:

Stacey--question about LeCelliar---did they charge the extra $2.00 for the DS steak even though you were on the dining plan?

No, I believe it was on the plan. The moose cake is not on the plan anymore. How did you like the cruise you took? Did you go in May when school let out? Were the parks crowded?

Ok, I don't get it. I can see every other food picture in this entire thread except the ones at Boma which is the one place that I was dying to see. It's a conspiracy! I want to see those pictures!!

I can still see all the Boma pics. That is weird because they are all uploaded from photobucket. Have you tried a different computer?:confused3
