Disappearing Peep Ditches Diet on the DDP! Lots of Pics! - Completed pg. 11!

YYYUUUUMMMOOOOO!! Ok... now my bagel is looking really lame! Thanks a Lot!!! ;)

That's about what I expect from 50's, homestyle basics. Nothing too fancy. I think we're going mainly for the atmosphere too.

I haven't heard of Flatbread Grill. Where in MGM is this? I think that will have to be our CS of choice while at MGM. Hubby loves hot dogs though, so stearing him away from those might be tough. I'll have to share the reviews that they aren't so great.

Stacey........sounds yummy! We ate at Flatbread and the pita wrap was very good also although DH did not eat his chili dog. :sad2:

Have not tried Prime Time so nice to have the review. Maybe next time! ;)

Thanks for writing....I know you're busy!

Hey, Melinda. Prime Time was a good thing to do once. Great atmosphere. I would say get onion rings, pot roast, and brownie sundae. Those were all very good. The dipping sauce for the onion rings was very good too. Have a great day!

oooooohhhhh . . . . ahhhhhh . . . .

Hey Glenda! Are you feeling better? Missed you!

YYYUUUUMMMOOOOO!! Ok... now my bagel is looking really lame! Thanks a Lot!!! ;)

I know. Writing it last night made me hungry! Bad for a diet. :sad2:

You are right about 50's. I did not got with really high food expectations. We just wanted to try it out because of the theming. Flatbread use to be called Studio Catering Co. I believe. It is right by the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids playground. He might like the hot dogs. :confused3 I liked the bbq sandwich. have a good day!

Lunch – Flatbread Grill

Sorry it took so long to post this installment. Life happened – work, new, class, work, sick DH – you know. Anyway, this is our second to last day. We decided to spend this day at MGM. We kind of slept in a little and arrived there at around 10:00. For lunch we decided to eat at Flatbread Grill. We ate at ABC Commissary last year and knew we wanted to avoid this place. :scared: The CS choices are somewhat limited here. DH and I ordered the barbequed pull pork subs with chips and chocolate cake. And my DD and in-laws ordered the chili cheese hot dogs and chips. DD and in-laws said the hot dog was ok (they liked Casey’s better). DH and I enjoyed the subs. They are very large and we should have split it. The chocolate cake was great – rich with thick frosting, yum!!!! I would give this CS an A. We will eat here again.

Dinner – 50’s Prime Time Café

We had an early reservation so we could catch Fantasmic. We did not know that during EMH they were going to do another show. We did like the atmosphere at Prime Time. We had a good table but no TV – we could easily see our neighbors though. Our “Mom” was great. She was an older lady who took the time to “fuss” at us and to explain the dishes she recommended. The service was efficient, but not rushed.
These are some pictures of the lobby when you first walk in.

This is our table. We loved looking at the dessert menus in the viewfinder.

MGM135.jpg

Appetizers

Fried Herb Cheese - Lightly breaded, served with Toasted French Bread and Fresh Fruit DD and DH ordered this because some friends recommended it. They did not like it at all. They liked LTT better. This was a lot of cheese. My MIL and I liked it so we ate theirs.

MGM139.jpg

Shrimp Cocktail - Jumbo Shrimp served with cocktail sauce and lemon – My DFIL ordered this. It came with 4 large shrimp. He liked it. Looked cold and bland to me.

MGM138.jpg

Beer Battered Onion Rings - served with Horseradish sauce – I ordered this. I love onion rings and these were pretty good. You get a large portion.

MGM140.jpg

Entrees

My DS really went out on a limb here and ordered something totally out of character for him. NOT! Below is another pic of chicken and fries. However, he did like this because it was nuggets and not strips – more like McDonalds.

MGM144.jpg

Traditional Meatloaf - a blend of beef and pork topped with tomato glaze, Yukon gold mashed potatoes, and green beans – DMIL ordered this. She asked for the root vegetable hash instead of the mashed potatoes. She said it was good. I am not a big meatloaf fan and would never order this at a restaurant. So I did not try it.

MGM142.jpg

Old Fashioned Pot Roast - Slow roasted 'til fork tender, served with mashed potatoes, carrots, celery and onions – DFIL had this. I did try this. It was very good. The meat was tender and had a good sauce. I should have ordered this instead of what I got.

MGM141.jpg

Top Sirloin Steak - char-grilled and topped with roasted mushrooms, red and green peppers, and served with root vegetable hash – DD ordered this. I think she was reading menus from right to left and looking for the highest priced item. Her theory is that more expensive must equal better food. She had fries instead of vegetable. I tasted this but do not remember it. Must have been okay. She liked it. I ate her peppers.

MGM145.jpg

Golden Fried Chicken - Served with mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, and Southern greens – DH ordered this. He asked for all white meat and ended up with 2 chicken breasts. He also got corn instead of greens. He said it was good, but not great.

MGM143.jpg

Grilled Chicken - breast of chicken topped with smoked ham, Swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms served on root vegetable hash – I ordered this. I added DD’s peppers to it. This was okay. The chicken was a little dry. I asked for barbeque sauce, which would have helped, but I never received it. I did not finish all of it. I did like the root vegetable hash.

MGM146.jpg

Desserts

S’mores – I ordered this. It is not something I would usually order at a restaurant. I mean I love S’mores around a campfire, but when out to eat I usually go for something I can not easily make at home (why I don’t order stuff like meatloaf). But for some reason, this sounded good. It was pretty good; it needed a little more chocolate. For some reason I do not have a pic of this – sorry. It looked like a very large S’more with just a graham cracker on bottom, then chocolate, then marshmallows.

Brownie Sundae - Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream, Hot Fudge, and Caramel topping – DD ordered this. First of all it is huge! Three people could easily eat this one. The brownie was very good? Moist, chewy, warm – why didn’t I order this?:confused3

MGM054.jpg

Chocolate shakes – DH, DFIL and DS ordered this. The shake was not on the kid’s menu. But DS was tired of sundaes and asked for a shake. Our “Mom” asked and they ended up letting him have the shake instead of the sundae. Now I was thinking they would just bring him a small kiddie type shake. Nope, he ended up with the same one DH received. As you can see in the pic, it is a large glass and the rest of it is in that silver cup. The silver cup is equally as full as the glass. It was like they each received two shakes. They were very good. Not too chocolatey, good and thick.

MGM057.jpg

Apple cobble ala mode – DMIL ordered this. I tasted it. It was cobbler. Okay, but nothing special.

MGM055.jpg

Overall, this was a good restaurant to try once. The theming is cool and the food was okay. It was our least favorite meal of the week. Next time we want to try Mama Melrose’s. 50’s Prime Time gets a C.

Next Installment: Last day! :sad1: Cosmic Ray’s, Aloha Isle and Casey’s at MK.

MGM-is a very hard place to find a good CS--This past May we ate at BackLot Express and it was very good and also had AC. On the dining plan the kids got icees for their drinks and still was able to get dessert. Other than that we usually get something near RR and ToT.

The very first trip we went to 50's Prime Time and had a great table, but a horrible server. You go for the atmosphere and we could hear it happeniing at other tables, but nothing at ours. Then on another trip we decided to try again--we did not have an ADR, but were not in a hurry. I spoke with the manager (he was at check-in)and asked for a waiter that would really ham things up. He said if we wanted that then it would be a 45 min wait orwe could get in at another table in 30. We waited (like fools) and guess what--we had a fuddy dud again. So we will never go back--2 tiimes went for atmosphere and was very let down. The foo to me is just ok. Nothing to write home about.

We did Sci-Fi on several trips and I recommend that to people for a late lunch. There shakes are out of this world.

Le Cellier looked AMAZING! I cannot wait to go there on our upcoming trip! YAY! :yay: I have a question. Did they add on the 18% tip to the spinach? If so did it come out to be expensive? I really want to get the spinach on the side because i love spinach and it looks fantastic, but I don't want to break the bank! :lmao: GREAT REVIEWS! :thumbsup2

Well, when we went we ordered a bottle ic ICE WINE and it was wonderful!! And def. not on the DDP!! But very expensive at over 100$ for the little bottle. but-they did add the 18% to this as well.

Fantastic review of 50's Prime Time. We will be going there in a couple weeks so Im very happy you did such a detailed review on it! :thumbsup2

We enjoyed Sci Fi last year. I think I liked it better. I really liked their spinach artichoke dip - Yum! Have you tried Mama Melroses

Wow - I remember seeing that wine! Was it worth it? Just a glass was like $15. I stuck with my diet coke.

I hope you enjoy it! Get the pot roast and brownie sundae! I liked the fried cheese, too.

We tried Mama Melrose back in May. DH and I thought of going there this May, but I do not think we plan on going to MGM. If we do it will just be in the morning and only for ToT --my all time favorite ride :cool1:

I see we are both online! Are you at work too? Did you like Mama Melrose's better than the other two as far as food? Tot and RnR right!? I hated that the RnR was closed when we were there. ToT is great though.

That cheese appetizer looked really good but I guess I'll never have it...most of the food on the menu at 50's Prime Time just turns my stomach...too heavy and down-homie I guess. I'm like Randy from A Christmas Story - I hate meatloaf!! :rotfl2:

Can I offer a suggestion for those of you who like ice wine? If you like a good martini try an ice wine martini - they are the bomb!

Thanks for the update, Stacey!

I am so drooling over this thread. I'm sitting here trying to figure out where to eat on our trip. Thanks so much for the reviews!

The fried cheese was good. But I agree with you, when I go out to eat I want to order something different than what I can fix at home. I had never heard of ice wine before Le Cellier. It must be great though.

I hope the reviews have been helpful, they certainly helped me when I was planning our trip.

I will post another update tomorrow.

Yes, I did like Mama Melrose's food better. We were there with a group of 17. One member of our group (an adult) had a big meltdown and embaressed the fool out of the rest of the party. Also, about 3 weeks before we went on that trip Joshua was very sick--Rota Virus -then another illness on top of that-first round of of astham medicine at 8mths-we had our final planning meeting with all the families. He wanted a chip and we thought the salt would proabably do him good--it was a cool ranch dorito--anyway a minute after he finished 1 chip I noticed red marks all by his lip and face--he neer moved the chip from his mouth--well then his lips started swelling--he was allergic to the chip. I gave him medicine and watched him and about 30 min. he was fine. Well at Mama Melrose he decided to swipe a piece of lettuce from my plate. Well by the time I noticed he was chewing something his lips were already redder and swelling--he was allergic to the vinegrette. Again--we wathced him and gave lots of fluids and he was fine. So our whole experience there was a little off and we would still go back. THere desserts were fine.

It is not Christmas at my house unless I get to watch that movie. I love it, but DH says it is one of those once youe see it why watch it again.

Hey, Heather! I think we will try Mama Melrose's next time. I love the Christmas Story. That 24 hours of a Christmas Story - I can do that. Hey if you are still coming by today. Ask for me up front, I am cleaning kitchen and pantry today!

We go to bed Christmas Eve with this on and at some point Christmas morning the kids have it back on. I plan on being there around 3:45. I will ask for you when I get there. Thanks.

Today was much crazier than I thought it would be! So I will really try to update by Monday.

Well, I did it now! :sad2: I made the mistake of reading through this amazing dining review to catch up, and now I'm STARVING!!! Everything looks so yummy! Thanks for taking such great pictures! You're doing a wonderful job on this review! :thumbsup2

I think I have put this one off because it is the last day. :sad1: But once I finish this one I can start on the trip report! We checked out Friday morning and the original plan was to stay until about lunch. But we had not seen the fireworks yet… so we decided to stay until closing. What the heck, it is only a 9 hour drive home! :confused3 We did not have any TS left on the DDP. We had adrs for breakfast at CP, but we did not wake up in time to make it. So we arrived at MK at about 10:00. We headed to Sleepy Hollow for breakfast – funnel cakes again!

Lunch – Cosmic Ray’s

I had read about Cosmic Ray’s and knew I wanted to eat here. The kids ordered chicken strips and fries – I did not take pics of this, looks like all the other ones! DH and I split a chicken and rib combo with carrots and fries (instead of potatoes) and chocolate cake. The chicken and ribs were very good, better than Flame Tree. However, I did like Flame Tree’s BBQ sauce better. The carrots were good too. I wanted the mashed potatoes, but I compromised and got fries. The chocolate cake was rich with lots of frosting!

MK080.jpg

MK081.jpg

DMIL got the chicken platter with carrots and mashed potatoes. DFIL ordered the ribs with carrots and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were good. The ordered the carrot cake and both said it was very good. The frosting looked good.

MK078.jpg

MK079.jpg

We all enjoyed Cosmic Ray’s. There is a large selection here and a huge fixings bar. This is my favorite CS at MK. So it receives an A.

Here is the infamous Sonny Eclipse. We all enjoyed his corny jokes and songs.

MK077.jpg

For snack, half of us went to Aloha Isle for Dole Whips and half of us went to the Enchanted Grove in Fantasyland. My DS got a pineapple/vanilla swirl, which was very good. DH got a pineapple float again and said he wished he had gotten a float with the swirl instead. DD and I both got Strawberry Swirls from Enchanted Grove. Sorry, Dole Whip fans – I liked this better! It was like eating one of those yummy strawberry bars mixed with vanilla ice cream! Dole Whips are good too, but I love strawberry ice cream, so this was my favorite! A

MK111.jpg

Dinner – Casey’s Corner

We all ordered the ¼ pound grand slam all beef hot dogs. They have a good fixings bar with cheese sauce. If you like chili cheese dogs, I recommend ordering a side of chili and splitting it. Three of us made chilidogs with one side of chili. DD also put chili and cheese sauce on her fries. We ate outside on the ground so we could watch the fireworks. We had some rather aggressive, hungry ducks join us for dinner.

MK136.jpg

MK133.jpg

Casey’s was good. I am not a big hotdog eater, but every now and then a good hotdog hits the spot. I would definitely eat here again. B

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed eating during this vacation. I would say my favorite meal was (this is tough) Boma. I really liked trying all the different food. Best steak of the week was Le Cellier – the Teriyaki Steak at Kona was a close second though. The best dessert was Ohana. DH’s favorite meal was Kona. Best appetizer was the shrimp at Ohana. Least favorite TS was Primetime. My favorite CS meal was the Cantina de San Angel. Least favorite CS was Flame Tree. Favorite snack, this one is tough – funnel cakes and school bread, I think. I hope these reviews were helpful. I will gladly answer any questions. I will start a trip report soon, hopefully.
