Disabled, reduced fees at attractions

Being from england, we get discounted rates for attractions if a person is disabled, I see that certain places offer this facility in orlando(by this i mean attractions off the beaten track not WDW etc), because only one of my sons disabilities is visable(hearing impaired), what proof do i need to provide to get the reduction in price, in britain we do not have permits or passes/cards informing you that they are disabled, only a "Disability Living Allowance" book(benefit), I dont particullary want to carry this around with me, so could you tell me what evidence is needed.

WDW doesn't offer discounts for disabilities, but if you are going to another attraction that does when you buy the tickets tell them your child is deaf and ask if they qualify for a discount. Under the Americans with Disability Act it is illegal for someone to ask you to prove a disability.

Just in case you aren't aware of this, but Universal and Sea World offer a discount to anyone with a disabilitie which limits their enjoyment of attractions.

This trip our ticket to Sea World is included with Discovery Cove but I am going to ask when we purchase our tickets at Universal and see what kind of discount if any I will get.

It would be great to hear from anyone who has been to Universal and got a discount there?

Thats interesting, But I usually buy my tickets in the UK, so guess the discount wouldnt apply in this instance?.

We went to Universal in May and got the disabled discount for me and my brother. (legally blind) There were no problems or questions. The employees at the attractions treated us excellently, too.

Now Disney? No discounts....

What type of ticket did you buy? We would be buying 2 or possibly 3 day tickets (2 park).

Busch gardens, Universal, and seaworld all offer discounts, 2 offer 50% and universal offer 20%.
Disabilities have to be prooved via doctor/specialists letter.The discount cant be applied to people living in the UK for advance purchase of tickets, you can only get the discount on the day, universal do not offer discount on combination tickets(universal/IOA)

Thanks for the info. So am I right in thinking that because we want to purchase 2 day/2 park passes for US/IOA I won't get the 20%? even though we are buying them at the park gate?

If so, how crazy is that? So they only offer the discount on a one day/one park ticket? I'm hoping I'm wrong! Anyone know?

Mazzy, no you are correct, apprently you cant have the discount on a two day two park, you have to purchase one ticket one day and get your discount, and then purchase your other ticket on another day, sounds strange doesnt it, this is what universal had emailed me, when you work it out the 2 day passes work out better, but when you buy then singually even with the discount it doesnt make much differance!!. I like to buy my passes in advance, i even offered to fax doctors certificates of Ds's disabilities as proof, but they still wouldnt let me do that!!!.
Ho Hum back to the drawing board!.

I know this doens't really answer your question about Disney, but it pays to ask wherever you are if they have a disability rate. We traveled to PA this past week, and at Sesame Place they rang us up full price (with my husband right there in his wheelchair) before I asked them if they had a disability rate. They did- half price, I believe. They do not post this rate anywhere, nor do they offer it without your asking.

The same thing (sort of) happened at Dorney Park. After we had purchased our tickets and tried to go on a ride (which they forbid my husband to do, but that's another post), we were told he could have gotten in at the Juvenile rate. I asked why they didn't post this or ask us at the ticket window. They told me offering the rate is a courtesy, and they wouldn't want to assume someone was disabled (even though they did just that when he wanted to go on a ride!)

Anyway, my point is, ask, even if there is no advertisement of a disability rate.

cassie, i think the main problem for us living in the UK, is that i like to purchase all my attraction tickets before i go, that way all the money we have we know is just for food and gifts etc.
The only trouble with getting discounts is, that they wont give them on prepurchased tickets, and most dont even ship to the UK.
And to be honest if you work out what passes you need in advance, ticcketmania tend to be very competative, when you work out the discounts yourself, it seems to be swings and roundabouts i think.

Im new to the board and this info is so useful - I have a DD who will be just 3 at the time of travel and has recurrent (daily) seizures. I was feeling it would be very expensive to pay for the passes (5 day hopper and 5 park flex) for rides etc that she will hardly be able to use.

It has been suggested to me that (as she is only 3) that I dont bother buying passes (particularly as she can hardly walk and will be in a stroller constantly)

I just dont know if I have the heart not pay for her ( although it would save about £366)
