Disability aids hire DLP

I have already posted on the Disneyland Paris forum with no responses, so I thought I would try here.

For many years, my wife & I were frequent visitors to WDW from the UK.

However, my disability, plus my wife's stroke have made transatlantic flights impossible. We both now use wheelchairs full time. We do however live in London, just a couple of miles from St Pancras International Railway station with high speed (TGV) rail links right to the door of Disneyland Paris.

However, once at our DLP hotel, we would need a hoist for our carers to move us between our wheelchairs and our beds. I know we can hire such equipment in Orlando, but are there equivalent equipment hire outlets near DLP?

I don't have DLP experience, but if you think you might travel more than just DLP (or go to DLP regularly), you could look into buying a portable travel hoist. I have a friend who has one (I don't know how/where she got it, but she lives in the UK) and it's opened up all sorts of things for her. She's even managed to go on a cruise! I don't know weight limit, but she's very pooh-sized so I'd expect it to work for the majority of people.

A portable hoist would not work for me as I have given up my wheelchair van and now have to rely on public transport like the TGV.

Your message did however, inspire me to carry out a Google search for hoist hire and I found a UK company that hires out all sorts of medical equipment for disabled holidaymakers.

They have 'partner companies' in many countries all around the world, and even list Disneyland Paris as a destination they support. By booking through them, they will arrange delivery to any DLP hotel (or any other hotel nearby) and collect again. According to their website, they can supply most equipment, including portable hoists, commodes, hospital style beds and pressure relief mattresses.

All I need now are the funds to pay for the trip!!!

My friend also doesn't have a van, but I think for the cruise, they may have gotten a ride from a friend who does have a WAV to the port. (I can't remember exactly where in the UK it ported, but it was in the UK.)

Good luck with the trip! I've taken the Eurostar in my manual wheelchair once and would happily do it again. I'm hoping that for my next overseas trip (I'm in the US), I can figure out the ground-logistics and get over my fear of bringing my powerchair on a long-haul flight.
