Lesley: Way to go! Keep up the good work.
My tips for people trying Atkins -
Try the Atkins Indulgence bars when you crave chocolate -- they taste so fantastic you won't miss the real (sugary) thing. Sugar really is the enemy on this way of eating -- if you remember it's what allows you to store fat then it might not be so hard to resist. Or at least that's what works for me when I'm feeling tempted.
The other thing that keeps me away, is I lost over 55 pounds on the Atkins, but regained much of it when I returned to my old way of eating. And I didn't eat large quantities of food or live on junk-food either, but I learned that pasta, bread, potatoes and sugar do not make me feel or look my best so I can't go back there. Not even a little, because the next time it's just a little more, every week instead of every month... It's so easy to slip into bad habits again! Also, there are some terrific low-carb alternatives out there that can help you get through some cravings. I found that the Cranberry-Orange muffin (mix) from Atkins really helped when I started getting sick of eggs. I missed my morning coffee & muffin, so just that little treat really helped.
For more recipe inspiration, I try the Suzanne Somers books (very close to Atkins plan for many of the dishes). And her dessert book is fabulous. I've made them with Somersweet, but you can use Splenda too. My husband doesn't miss the 'other' desserts when he can have a chocolate cake or creme brulee.
So I'm back on the Atkins. And this is it. No more cheating, because I'd only be cheating myself. This board helps so much -- thanks everyone for your support.
Okay, my fingers hurt. No more typing for me tonight.
Cheers, all.
