DIS Shareholders and Stock Info ONLY

Has a bit of a Comic Con feel to it. People spend a ton of money to go to these things and especially with them expanding it out, they want to make sure they're giving ticketholders value. Same way that they show CC guests exclusives at panels. If they just livestream the whole thing there's less incentive to go.

That said I'm guessing they publish the big news as it comes out or very soon afterwards.
They have live streamed prior years so I don't think it has much to do with giving ticket holders value. Plus in prior years, they blacked out any live performance and video reel. So, there was still plenty of things that were audience only.

They have said they would add streams to Disney Plus. I just have a lot more time Saturday than Sunday and it will be much tougher to catch up depending on what they post.

I mentioned a bit ago that it seems company news was not being as widely disseminated as it used to be. IO2 became the top animation earner and there was no news attached to the DIS quote on any of the services I use. Why would that news not be shouted from the rooftops, especially while your stock is hurting? Then the earnings call is only 25 minutes long with no preamble by Bob touting all the good stuff happening and now we have no D23 streams. It really seems like they are purposely sabotaging their own good publicity. Can any of you make it make sense?

I don't know what else to tell you, they rented out the Honda Center to make this look like a big event and sell the place out. The more they give out for free, the less likely they're able to sell out in the future if they do this again.

I am not just talking about the Honda Center events but I don't know what else to tell you besides no one actually cares about the free stuff as the event has always sold out regardless of live stream or not.

But they did make postings about IO2 topping animation box office the day it happened and when they announced the earnings report on the company website in July they said it would just be a Q&A session

Ok, next time buy a ticket to guarantee that you'll see the event live.

Yes, but why did they not send it to the financial news services? Yahoo and my broker's quotes (and this thread) is were I get 99% of my stock news, why would they ignore that? No one is going to every corporate site of stock they own to find company news, that is what quote services are for. I really think someone in IR forgot to press a button.

And why was the earnings call so subdued? I can't remember the last one that did not have a preamble, especially with all the good news they have and a stock price that is lagging, the stock at this point needs all the good news it can get. Bob used to pound the table with that good news...

Idk what to tell you because I saw plenty of postings about IO2 from Disney the day it happened across numerous media platforms, and saw others posting about the earnings report only being a Q&A session for this time as well as when the company reported it.

Just annoys me that it was not attached to quote news, the one place it could help the stock.

A very logical argument and thanks for the honest answer.

The stock market often is wrong over the short term and a lot of money has been made by picking companies that have a bright future, but for whatever reason remain undiscovered by most investors. Think Warren Buffett and Peter Lynch as folks who could "see" the future.

With DIS, my thinking hasn't changed much. It is my contention that the parks, especially the domestic parks have been neglected to the point that they have been damaged. They have been starved of maintenance personnel and supplies and denied sufficient capex to keep up with demand. CM morale is noticeably stale.

For example, on our trip to WDW this past April, we were in MK for a noon lunch our last day. On Main Street, a entire box of popcorn had been spilled. No big, deal, I thought, happens all the time. But 1 1/2 hours later after our lunch, we were walking back along the same part of the street, and there was that popcorn, all mashed down and scattered halfway across the street.

To me, it was a horrifying sight - something I had never seen before at WDW. You have to know that dozens of CMs had seen the mess but no one made an effort to sweep it up. If CMs have lost the motivation to keep the place clean, then guest interactions are also sub-standard.

With content - sports, linear tv, streaming, movies, etc - I believe the explosion of digital availablity has made the product much cheaper. Everyone can make their own movies (YouTube) and old stuff from Westerns to Drama is available somewhere on the cloud. Why bother tuning in to ABC prime-time for a TV show you've never seen, when you can watch an old movie or tv series that you would enjoy watching again?

True, DIS is a movie studio first and foremost, but they better come up with some high quality product to stand out and make customers want to buy. It can be done, as evidence by this year's blockbusters.

IMO, management has been derelict by neglecting the high-margin product (parks) and spending too much time focusing on a low-margin commodity product (content). I can't imagine DIS having the scale and volume of content to ever match the margins of the parks and cruises.

I hope I'm wrong, because I want the Disney that I grew old with will be there for future kids to enjoy.
AGREE! Can only speak about WDW...In 50 yrs of visits, I've seen it at it's best & worst.
But clearly now WDW is lacking pixiedust:.
Essential ongoing maintenance, daily upkeep & intelligent investment in new projects is reaching rock bottom, while Paris continues to live up to the brand, thanks to Imagineers who don't view all of life as a video game & unthemed generic shopping malls.
As a shareholder for 40 yrs, it seems that of all the Parks, the essential "Disney Magic" that WDW began with is being eradicated.
I mean, they tore down Mickey's House. WHO DOES THAT? 🤯
And adding a Walt statue to Epcot but hiding him behind bushes in a non-descript hidden setting? Really?
The amount of time & $ spent creating more blank open spaces indoors & out is embarrassing.
But most importantly, the prices of EVERYTHING are out of control-ESPECIALLY attraction availability up-charges!
Everything has reached price-gouging levels I thought would end when Chapek was fired.
Yes. Some may not visit due to feeling personally financially insecure, Mr Iger....
Many people are simply being priced-out.
But all of us realize when we are NOT getting our money's worth.
Promoting every new ridiculously priced cupcake isn't enough to lure increased attendance.
And I'm not currently investing in TWDC & won't as long as the we have no idea what happens after Iger.

Oct 11, 2023 🎯

The trend line since that October 11 post is flat for domestic parks. Been clear for a long while that Domestic Parks operating income was not on a growth trajectory. I realize guidance was missed in Q3 and the revised guidance for Q4 is down but I have to ask where Disney was expecting this growth? Price increases?

International has also peaked.

So, we are at a point where demand is fine but margins are feeling the pressure. DCL will have added capacity and can counter some of the profit pressure into FY25. At the parks do we see a push to put more guests per day through the gates? Shovels are not in the ground for any capacity increasing project that may get announced at D23 so nothing is coming any time soon in the USA.

Feels like a push to fill the parks like 2018/2019 could be on its way?

Well that is something at least...but (with fear of showing my age) how the heck do you watch a live stream in a game...I mean I barley know what Fortnite so....
I was too old when Fortnite came out to get into it but I guess they’ve built it into an ecosystem rather than just the original battle royale game. Apparently there are subgames, like a Guitar Hero clone, which I found out about because of a recent Metallica/Fortnite event.

I guess another subpart of the ecosystem would be a place to watch streams. Really sounds like they’re trying to build Ready Player One 😅
