I’ve seen the clip. I don’t need to see a skit about tampons in a child’s show. If you honestly think people want that, then we will just have to agree to disagree.
LOL oh well, you dont know what you are missing. it can be a really funny subject, because so many people can relate to it on so many levels. Some of those actual tampon ads are hysterical. Shark week.... Mother Nature's 'gift'...

I think it is a common misconception that the characters are the same entity, and so Allen was 'replaced" by Evans. my understanding is (have not seen it myself) is that the Toystory Buzz is based on a character in a movie that Andy saw and got the action figure toy from. The movie Lightyear has nothing to do with Toystory except that it is supposed to be the fictional movie that Andy saw as a backstory. The toy Buzz (Allen) and the movie Buzz (Evans) are different entities ie two separate individuals, so it made sense to not use the same voice.

Yes, and all the hubbub about it is overblown. It was a creative decision only and Disney still has a good relationship with Tim Allen, who is currently working on The Santa Clauses series for Disney+.

LOL I knew this was going to be your example. Yes I am aware of this clip you mention is and it is blown out of proportion.
Shows take from real life. In this case Baymax is trying to be helpful but is confused by something they are not familiar with... tampons. So a whole bunch of helpful people suggest various kinds, including a potentially trans individual. so is that the OMG... that people use tampons. The reality is.... yes they do... a great many tampons over one's menstrual lifetime. It is a classic comedy skit that has been done before... making fun of a person buying them. And yes... when you are not a tampon user purchasing them can be confusing and often embarrassing. I think it is funny that folks are upset about this. What is missed.. is actually the clip made a great example of people helping other people, something positive and nice... . But really you and others want to focus on what.. tampons themselves? or that person who may or may not be transgender suggesting a certain brand to Baymax?
What kids saw.... various nice people helping Baymax shop... what certain adults saw: the end of society

I still need to watch these, they were recommended to me and it sounds like they'll be good.

Thing is, this shouldn't be an issue to begin with. It's something that most women deal with and it should be normalized and talked about. Buying them regardless of your age or gender shouldn't be embarrassing and talking about it shouldn't be taboo.

Man, I hope some of these critics don't watch Turning Red! 🤣

It may have made sense to go with a new actor and it could have made just as much sense going with Tim under the assumption the toy's look and voice was based on the real person. The whole creative decision of the movie is what I call into question. How did Pixar get it so wrong with their original iconic IP?

Well, the creative decision could be debated. Me, I was rooting for Patrick Wharburton! 😁

You know the answer.

You know the answer.
As a shareholder, the possible answer that scares me most is that Pixar's decision making has gone to crap. Pre-covid, they had what - something like a 90% blockbuster to so-so box office rate. I'm willing to give them some time to get it together post-covid, but if it becomes a trend in "normal" times, it will not be good.

Well, the fact it they lost a key member of their team, who was problematic, but also a genius. That said, people come and go and teams change. Nothing is stable forever. Look at Disney Animation - they have gone from briliant to bad and back several times over the years. Pixar's been in a lull lately, though the movies are still pretty good, just not quite rising to the greatness of previous eras (though Luca is pretty close). It's just how things go. They will adjust and change over time, for better and worse. It'll all be fine.

This podcast was linked in a different thread. From this particular time stamp, and going on for about 15 min, the discussion revolves around decision making by two studios within Disney meaning Pixar and Lucasfilms. Now TWDC is a behemoth, yet take away the revenue from these two pillars of the movie arm of the company and what is the impact? The overall question that applies to this topic, would Turning Red been made with Lassiter in charge? Why did Baymax shop for hygiene products versus anything else in the grocery store, or any store? Going after an extreme situation? Again, would this decision been made with Lassiter in charge? I think not. So we are left with the line of reasoning what will happen to TWDC stock if these two studios, out of the many, continue to push content that affects the bottom line?

As much as I have stated to the family that TWDC is "dead" to me, this discussion at the clip leads to a less harsh judgement of decisions crossing Chapek's desk.

IMO, Toy Story 4 was not a good movie compared to the first 3 but it made $1B at the box office. This is the reason they made Lightyear. There is hubris in the TWDC regarding their tent pole IP's! They thought they could put out anything revolving around the Toy Story brand and it would drive box office. Put out a tent pole branded film then release 2-3 new films and then back to tent pole IP. Then hope 1 of the new films hit and make a sequel down the road. Rinse-Repeat.

Disney Animation keeps crushing it. Marvel is a freight train. LucasFilm is busy (successfully) rebuilding the Star Wars brand with Fioloni and Favreau via D+. I imagine there will be a Lightyear post-mortem done and try and see where things went wrong.

Looking forward, how well do we think the Avatar movie is going to do? They are in the coveted Christmas release spot and I just feel like no one is asking for an Avatar franchise even though it is the highest grossing film of all-time. Disney has high hopes and has invested A LOT of money in the Avatar brand. I am skeptical that this will be successful.

Why did Avatar do well? I have an inkling - Good guys, bad guys, a love story, heroes, villains - a formula as old as storytelling itself. Wander far from this formula at your risk.

considering Disney films NEVER have kids disobeying their parents...
You mean like the Little Mermaid? Or Jasmine in Aladdin? Or Simba in Lion King?

Oh wait, you were being sarcastic, weren't you.

Original was done in groundbreaking 3D tech. Watching in the theatres was only way to really see the tech. It was beautiful at the time. It was the 'Dances with Wolves' formula. As a shareholder I would love this to hit big. Just a bit skeptical.
