Dis Mom's Club?

Thanks Girls! DH and I stayed there 1 night when we first bought into DVC and no rooms were available at AKV. Being close to a kid-friendly pool is probably one of the most important things... We are playing with the idea of driving to the parks since we'll have our own van, and may be using the buses if we want to go back for a couple of hours for lunch. :confused3

I prefer to drive when we have a car. Now that my dad lives there he lends us his car.

It CAN be a pain to get to the monorail if you stay until close AND if you have an early breakfast ressie I recommend taking the bus. We got to MK and the monorail was running yet and had to take a bus anyway. It stunk. We waited about 20 minutes for a bus.

I guess I shall join the thread as well. Recently single mom of 4, I work as a Labor & Delivery nurse, and I love Disney. We tend to go 2-4 times per year but at the moment we are taking an 18 month hiatus before buying AP's again. We have been DVC members at the BWV's since 1999. Stayed at all deluxe and villa resorts except- GF and SSV, have stayed at all the mod except CSR, and have stayed at the All Star Sports. We've used the regular dining plan and the deluxe but have not used the QS.

Glad to be here.

Hello and welcome!!

QS worked good for us for a short trip. I don't think it would work for us on an eight day trip.

I haven't taken my kids out of school for a vacation for years and was wondering when do you let the teachers know? I want to give them enough notice that the kids can get their missed work to take with us, but not so much that they forget. I was thinking of writing a quick note this week and then another a couple of weeks before we actually go. :confused3

Thanks:flower3:

I think that is probably a good idea. My kids are still too little for traditional school ~ so I let their school know a few weeks in advance. Well then Mena talks about it non stop so everyone knows when we are going and what are ADR's are!! :rotfl2:

There are a lot of threads about this topic and they seem to get pretty heated at times. :scared1:

Now, this is what we do and it works for us.
DS10 is in 4th gr. and last year (3rd gr.) we told the teacher a month ahead and she asked why I felt she needed to know?? (yeah, not a great year with that teacher:sad2:) She just wanted DS10 to do a 5 minute presentation to the class and he had no other make-up work.

This year I told DS10 teachers last week. It was just under 3 weeks out. They both said they'll take are of things when he gets back and don't worry, he won't have much. They were very excited for him.

Our school does not have strict policies like some school have about being absent. They, for the most part, see this as a family strengthening time.

DS3 & DD3 are in preschool and I told their teacher so that she would know why they were absent and she just said "Have fun." However, she just got back from a weeklong honeymoon!

And this is why I'm sooo glad we have this thread!:cloud9: I might have to duck and run for cover on any other thread!:lmao:

To me it is totally the parents decision on this aspect. Now, I for one would NOT take my kids out of school if they were poor students or misbehaved while as school... But that is just my opinion and to each their own! :thumbsup2 Luckily for me, my school aged kids are doing amazingly well this year.:goodvibes

I'm hoping it won't be a huge issue with the school as neither of them have missed more then a day or two this year and a lot of the kids are military brats;), so I would guess missing a week here and there is usual with parents to and from deployments etc.

I still don't get why other people think it is okay to tell you how to parent your own kids. You do your thing ~ I'll do my thing you do yours. If we all parented the same ~ the world would be perfect right?!?

Crazy what people around here find to argue about.

Apparently some people think that their fatal allergy to peanuts is a bigger deal than my DD's fatal allergy to berries? I mean ~ what is up with that? IMHO they are BOTH a pretty big deal. It's crazy. DH always says he doesn't want me reading Dis anymore because it gets me so riled up!

Yup! I have a bad allergy to mold/mildew and mushrooms. I have to watch for it constantly because people don't realize how bad it can be. Peanuts, yup, it's out there, people know about it. But some of these "lesser known" allergies just aren't as important. Oh well, at the end of the day, I just do what is best for me and my family and let everyone else live how they want ;)

Ok, you got me :goodvibes I had to go read the peanut allergy thread! I'd been avoiding it this whole time, but you peaked my interest. :rotfl:
I do think the peanut allergy debate is out of control... Not sure why peanuts are so much more important then any other allergy. :confused3 I am a walking allergy... Really I'm allergic to almost everything, grass, trees, pollen, the sun, eggs, cockroaches:confused3. Luckily the only life threatening allergy is fresh pineapple. I just watch myself and others around me. I know not to go to a luau or to kiss my DH if he's been to one. :rotfl2:

But I think it would be really hard for a child with a severe berry allergy!:sad2: I'd be so nervous during the spring and summer! :scared1: Good for you teaching her about her allergy young and not relying on the adults to watch out for her! :thumbsup2 You never know when someone's back is turned and what may happen!

Haha! Didn't mean to goad you into reading that thread. I just think it is funny that someone thinks they need to tell me to clean up after my kid and not let the run the aisles of the plane with peanut butter all over their hands. Um ~ I have flown A LOT and never witnessed some thing like this!

I try to be mindful that people can be allergic to just about anything. I don't wear perfume any more at all. I don't ever pack peanut anything as a snack. I really do try to be considerate. But come on peanut allergy PSA are all over the place. I think most people know about. How about some love for the lesser known allergies?

Yeah ~ ZZ kept breaking out in hives and then one time I was feeding her blueberry buckle and noticed that after the first bite she was covered in swollen hives. Then it happened with strawberries. Then later at school with cranberries. Every time it gets worse and more severe. Yes ~ both the girls know "no berries" but Mena sometimes gets confused and thinks she is allergic too. I think this was a misunderstanding at their school. LOL!

Now Mena is severely allergic to bug bites. Any bug. Again the swollen hives. They both have had good luck with benadryl but each time it gets worse and last time Z had them in her mouth and throat. Talk about scary.

For some reason the pedi seemed to think she would outgrow it. We will test again at 3 to see what we have for a reaction.

Anywho!

Does that mean you can't have Dole Whips? :scared1:

That means NO Dole Whips! I was so excited to have a famous Dole Whip a few trips ago, and then I learned what they were and my whole life was over :lmao:

Suellen~ could you imagine a bunch of peanut butter covered animal kids running up and down the aisle of a plane! :rotfl:

I think if you say FATAL it is a pretty big deal. No arguing needed.

I should have known better then to get involved in a heated thread (although to be honest I didn't know it was going to get all wierd) when I am only half paying attention to what I'm putting out there as Bug still is not doing well.

I have not slept in 3 days now. We thought yesterday that Bug was turning the corner, but now Monkey is sick - so we are leaning toward Bug not having a UI. And the dr's at urgent care said we had to do a cath to do the test, and said the thing that suellen mentioned wouldn't work for him but the dr was pretty sure that it is a virus so we choose not to do the test. He's already miserable why make him more so. Although if he doesn't turn the corner or show other symptoms they want to do it just to rule out the UTI. Sorry probably more info then yall wanted.

On to happier things I managed to get some ADR's for our June trip so woohoo.

You think the peanut allergy thread is bad....... go over to the community boards and read the one about Jon & Kate. ;)
I am an avid Dancing with the Stars fan and over the weekend got sucked into a debate about the two of them, yikes!!!
