OK.

So.

I just put down a small deposit on a Las Vegas holiday next March/April. I got it dead cheap - two weeks, flights with Virgin Atlantic, half board, just over £1,000 departing from the UK.

My agency just got in touch saying that they want to bump the price up by £60 because the price of air fair went up a few seconds before I clicked "I accept".

Where do I stand? It's not a tonne of money, but it's the principal of the thing.

Im not a lawyer and neither is Al Pachinno , but he thinks he is

The Rule, no less!!

Read the fine print on the site you booked on. It may well cover this situation.

I think if you fussed enough you could get out of paying to 60£. Not a lawyer but I work in customer service and sometimes it's cheaper to just give the customer what they want than spending 1000 man hours arguing with the customer about whatever it is.

Is it still "dead cheap" if you add the additional money? If so, in the immortal words of Elsa from Arendelle "Let It Go..."

Do you have a receipt showing the air fare is fully paid?
What do they say the consequences are of not paying the extra money?
Does the fine print support their claim of what would happen?

Totally depends on the regulations of your jurisdiction and the contract you agreed to. Doesn't the UK have some sort of weird consumer policies for travel where all your deposits are 100% non-refundable? (Pretty sure I've read that here and on CruiseCritic.) I guess that would mean you either pay the extra or eat what you've already put down.

You're asking for advice on a travel related contract in the UK. Not something any old lawyer would know the correct answer to.

I may just pay the extra. £60 isn't a huge amount. And my ace in the hole - a British Airways flight - is now £100 more expensive! If they try this again I'll throw a hissy fit, but for the sake of peace I'll settle on the status quo.

I think that's the right choice. In the grand scheme of things 60 pounds is nothing.

Last journey I ran into a snag. British Airway's site was down and I couldn't log on to reserve my seat. As such I ended up with the last available seat - at the back, in the middle aisle, in the middle seat. Not only was it restrictive and gross (the people on either site kept on farting), the noise of the jet engines was epic! I almost always reserve a seat up near the front of the plane, so I never get this, so the culture shock was freakish!

Rubbish. What does your receipt say the total cost is? Your agency sounds incredibly shady and I would probably not do business with them ever again. Get your documents and see what it says the total cost is. If it's lower than what the agency now wants to charge you, it's "too bad, so sad" for them. If they try any funny business, threaten to file a complaint with the BBB and/or any other relevant sites.
