DIS Giving Challenge for Katrina

Several radio stations in the Asheville, NC area are having a drive this week to collect money for the Red Cross and eventually will be collecting supplies.

They are also doing collections in Charlotte, NC & somewhere in SC.

I donated at Petsmart yesterday and made a donation online at Best Buy, who is matching donations.

I've made a number of donations to the Red Cross, and I'm working with ladies from school and church to provide some home baked goodies for the 400 refugees scheduled to arrive in DC this week.

We donated $$ the other night & I'd really like to send more. As soon as school starts on Tuesday, I'm sure my daughters' elementary will hold a drive to collect $/items and we will help with that as well. There are buses of people coming up here & I'd love to find other ways to help and have been looking. I have a bunch of gently used kids clothes/blankets but have heard no one is accepting them at this time so holding on til they do.

We've given some money to the Red Cross and Salvation Army, like most have.

But I have to say, I am a little disappointed with Disney Vacation Club's response. A number of us over on the DVC boards wanted to donate points to one central account that the Red Cross or someone could use to provide housing at DVC for victims, R & R for rescue workers, etc. Their only answer was to call the Red Cross.

I'm sure there are hundreds of owners who would donate thousands of DVC points for needy people. For example, I recently added on to my account and received 100 free points as an incentive. I'd gladly donate those, and that would buy a studio at Old Key West for nine nights right now.*

I'm hoping DVC will have a better response next week.

* I know what you're thinking -- forget it.

1) No, I'm not donating them to you...and 2) No, it is not tax-deductible for us to donate points.

I also gave to the Red Cross through my work. They are matching all employee donations.

I made a donation to the Humane Society and one to Noah's Wish, which I learned about here on the Dis. I also have a box of plus sized underwear and one of toiletries and tote bags (I had a bunch and I figured if you've got nothing, once you start getting something, you need something to put it in - I hope that makes sense!) to go out on Tuesday to one of the addresses list in the "plus sized undies" thread.
I just wish I could do more!

Today I donated to Red Cross and to Humane Society and then we went to PetSmart this afternoon and we gave some more money in store.

I donated to Red Cross. My best friend and I sent care packages to people in LA requesting Plus Size clothing, and we bought clothing and children's books that our local tire store is collecting (they have a truck they are filling and taking to Houston).

Our church is also partnering with the Dream Center in Los Angeles. They bought the Queen of Angels Hospital (I think that is the one) and converted into temporary housing. They are going to take in 300 families for 3-6 mos (or whatever is needed). We took up a collection today to help provide for those families.
