DIS frequent spelling errors

This was already addressed above, but I, too, am bothered by the use of apostrophes for plurals.

I should add, I never use apostrophes when Im typing here. Its not that I dont know they belong there, I just skip them to save time. ;)

I two get appauled at certain spelling errors alot of the time; farther more, I seen many grammer errors (especially from The Smith's Family) but thats a seperate issue and prolly unbeerable to other people to.

Irregardless, it's a mute point since noone axed my opinion in the first place, so I'm going to be quite now and go to Wal-Marts. . .

;)

:teeth:

Its the DIS, WillyJ...you dont need to be axed for an opinion to offer one. ;)

WillyJ - LOL!

The verbal one that makes me cringe the most is when people say "ax" or "axed" instead "ask" or "asked".

Does the Dis have a spell check? or is it a spell cheque?

tara

I've got a couple that I saw today.

(1) Kewl - What is this? It isn't a word, not even as slang. I checked both the Merriam-Webster and Oxford dictionaries on this to make sure I wasn't crazy.

(2) Discusting - We discuss various topics here, some of which are disgusting.

Foward (should be forward.).
Suprise (should be surprise).

It bothers me when people refer to the restaurant on the Disney Magic/Wonder as Palos or Palo's. It's just plain "Palo".

And there is no apostrophe in "Adventurers Club" on Pleasure Island either.

I used to make it a point to send email to websites that contained typographical errors. But there aren't enough hours in the day for me to continue that practice. I guess that I will just have to learn to live with the MIS-STEAKS.

03'

That annoys me! or
'03'

It is '03!
The apostrophe is used to indicate that there are missing numbers, so it should go where the number are missing from!

nobody has gotten around to the ones that make me cringe.

no/know
here/hair/hare

my favorite typo is hte, I do it all the time.

When I first came to the board I asked if there is a spell check. I still don't know. I try to proofread, but sometimes I just miss things. A mistake I use to make a lot and still do sometimes is
a lot not alot. Oh well:(

Supposed to not "suppose to"

Next door not "next store" (this one drives me nuts!)

I don't think a lot of people know that there is an "edit" button on the bottom right side of your post that allows you to fix your spelling and other things that you may not be proud of.:p

And one of my employees (the same one that says I seen) also says, "I'm going to the doctors."

Your employee is right on this one. As long as she's SAYING she's going to the doctor's. Now if she WROTE she's going to the doctors that would be wrong. This has an implied noun or object or whatever it's called. When she says that, she means she's going to the doctor's office as in the office belonging to the doctor.

I thought of another one today that makes me mad. I don't like it when people call hyphens dashes. This (-) is a hyphen. This (--) is a dash. They have two totally different functions. The hyphen is used to connect two words together, i.e. my eyes are blue-green. The dash is used much like a comma but you use a dash when there is a total change of subject, i.e. I was walking down the street -- my car was in the shop -- and the car came from behind me and hit me. We also use it in transcripts when someone interupts someone else.

I would like to express my gratitude for this thread. I hope that offenders will take note:D

I have noticed all my life that many of the people I've grown up with (and even graduated high school with) have morphed the phrase "a while ago" into something that is pronounced

WALLAGO.

For instance:

"When did Mom go to the store?"

"Wallago."

It drives me crazy!!

One that really drives me crazy is the shortening of I'm going to town... Ima go to town... Could be from living in the deep woods of the south...

Yeah, me too. My mom uses that one along with "yunder"

"What store did mom go to?"

"The one over yunder"

What is a yunder???
