This is a question for the MD's on this board, with the mumps outbreak in Iowa and today said there were confirmed cases in Minnesota, should we be semi-concerned and bring the kids in for a titer test to see if they have developed an immunity? I am most concerned about the boys and the potential side effects. I had the mumps as a child so I am safe. The kids had MMR's at 18 months, 5 years and our oldest had one (I think, have to double check on that) at 12 years before he started 7th grade.

Our dr's office isn't open yet to call.

My son goes to UW-Milwaukee and there are 6 cases of unconfirmed mumps. They said by today they will know. My son called all worried because his roomate never received his booster shot. I asked him how his roommate was allowed in school-we had to prove that my son received all immunizations to get into uw-milwaukee-he told me his mom lied on the sheet.

I told him I had the mumps when I was 12, but for boys-the worst side effect is sterilization. My son had the shot at 15 months and 6th grade.
