DIS Digi-Scrapping Challenge #19 (8-20 to 8-26)

I had a hard time with this challenge. It's hard to get a good photo with me in it, so I had to use the same photo that I used last week. But it worked well with the journaling, I think. Plus, I really wanted to use frames for the photos...

But enough of my whining. :rotfl2: Here's my LO. I also put the links to the freebies I used in the credits.

OOHHHH!!! That is so pretty!!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all the glitter and glitz. :) Very sparkly. AWESOME job! :) Great journaling! :thumbsup2

quiltymom - I love your layout! It is fun to see how your layouts have progressed in a short time. I only noticed - because it took me much longer to get out of what I call the "CM box"! Not that I am really out because sometimes I see some of the layouts on here and I am amazed at the level of creativity!!

I received the participation prize and I really like the template. I already put it into SBC+ with photoboxes - now I have to decide - should I do Mickey or Minnie or a character breakfast or use it as the front page from our last vacation - decisions, decisions!!

I can't wait to see what the other DIS digi-scrappers come up with for this challenge!!

quiltymom - I love love love the pink Disneyland LO. It is beautiful!

I sure hope I did this one right. I did Park "C".

Last week when Britt posted her LO I knew I had to get the Tiki Tiki Boom Boom kit to finish out my Polynesian pages. I didn't know I'd be using it so soon. What's funny is that I tried every which way to use the kit I won last week on this LO but I couldn't get it to look right. I'm glad that I didn't now that Britt has posted hers this week!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Magic Kingdom was my first love back in 1972 and will always be my favorite park. It's about nostalgia, magic, adventure, royalty, and throw in some pixie dust. As I was putting it together, I thought that the reasons I love Magic Kingdom ARE all of the seven different lands ... and the castle, which is the middle of it all!

Britt - Cute! Cute! Cute! Your layouts make me wish that I could go to DL and CA! I have never been - only WDW. I can't get my DH on board with flying across the country - he hates to fly. I am always so intrigued about how many different Disney things there are at DL that are not at WDW!!

bsquare - I love the way you did the pics - I am scraplifting for sure - with your permission of course.

susan - very smart to use one large picture - it never occured to me! The layout is great and i really love the pics that you choose for each land :) I am so bad at mixing and matching kits - you did a nice job with all of the elements.

Very nice. Love how you ddi the 7 different lands. Great photos. Like how the castle photo is the bigger photo. Like also how you did the title. Very cute. Awesome job!

Disney Baby - Ain't it the truth about trying to get out of the "CM" box? After being a CMC for 7 years, it's hard to start to think otherwise. That's why I like these challenges! And also, thanks for your kind comments! I'm not kidding when I said that I had a hard time with this LO. It would be rather embarassing to let everyone know how many hours I worked on it!

bsquare - Since I had absolutely no glitter or sparkle in my digi-stash, I went searching and was thrilled to find what I did! I never thought about using pink & brown for a Disney LO, but it was fun, and it worked with the B/W photos.

Okay - now for my comments on the LOs so far.

Disney Baby - I just used the same Digital Kit for a Lion King LO. It does work well for Animal Kingdom stuff! And I also love the way you used the signs. Very fun.

Brittney - once again ... COOL! I've got to learn to do a page in your simple but fun style. It really brings the focus to your photos. Maybe I won't be spending hours tweaking everything anymore!!!

bsquare - what a totally fun way to display your photos!!!!! It was one of those, "why haven't I thought of that" moments! :lmao: Mind if I scraplift the idea??? And the elements are fun. Makes me want to go to the islands.

Susan - Way to go getting a 2-pager done! I like the way you carry the photos onto the next page. I would've done a "mirror image" or something boring like that on the other page. Very innovative!! And I love the stocks photo...

Great job so far, everyone. I also can't wait to see what everyone else does!

yzerbear - Thanks for hosting! Your layouts are awesome as usual! The participation prize is wonderful! Thanks! U rock!

Disney Baby - Your layout is gorgeous. Animal Kingdom is such a beautiful park and you've had some amazing experiences there! Great job!

Quiltymom - I love the pink & browns with the b/w photos! Very nice job! The sparkly Disneyland just pops off the page! Luv it!

Brittney - The queen of layering! Your layouts are always MAGIC! This is another one that made me go, "Wow, why didn't I think of that?" U are amazng!

bsquare - Another great Animal Kingdom layout. To me, it and Epcot are the most photogenic parks and your layout shows why. The pics are beautiful and I love the way your creatively cropped them! Great job!

Incredible layouts y'all!

quiltymom - I've been a CMC for 7 years too! I have been amazed at how much my stuff has changed since I found the DIS digi-scrappers! The people on here are also really nice. I was laughing when I read your post because this one took me FOREVER too! I thought digi-scrappin' was supposed to be faster :rotfl2: This was one of my favorite challenges so far!!

Well Ladies, I am torn and this is a bit off topic, but I love these scrap challenges, I love the looks, the layouts, the great ideas! BUT I am still not sure I want to scrap an album? See, I love the PICTURES above all things and with many of our pages, we make the pictures so small in comparison to how I would print them normally.
It would be fun to do a "make it count" scrap challenge with large photo emphasis and minimal, yet effective use of elements and flair.

Hmm...if you all have some links to your scrap pages that utilize larger photos, would you mind sharing them?

And back to the topic at hand...I haven't started yet and I am still a bit confused. You have to meet all of requirement A, AND B or C, correct?

TIA!

Do you usually print your pictures at larger then 4x6 for your traditional scrapbooks? Because when you view a 12x12 layout in true 12x12 size, the pictures are a lot bigger than they look on the screen (of course). I hardly ever got enlargements for my traditional scrapbooks, so a lot of times, the photos on my digital pages are a lot bigger than they would have been in a traditional book. I try to make the photos the focus of all of my layouts. You'll notice I rarely do those cool one photo layouts! I have too many pics for that! You can see all of my LO's by clicking that link in my siggy. Maybe we can continue this conversation over on the Digital Scrapping pages thread, I think we should keep talking about this! :)

I shy away from some of the challenges because if I can't make it work easily with some pictures I have in my head, ready to scrap, then I don't do the challenge. Some people are much more flexible than I am and seem to do great with each and every challenge. Sometimes I just can't get it to work for me. I guess that's why they are called challenges!

I understand where you are coming from. I agree with what Jessica said, a lot of times I'm surprised at how big the pictures really are on my printed layout since I'm used to viewing them on the computer screen. Also, I always try to put a lot of pictures on my layouts and I usually stick with two page layouts to allow for more pictures.

Some of the challenges have been more challenging than others for me. I have lots of trip pictures left to scrap, so I've usually found something that I could fit. There may be two layouts that I won't put in my 2008 book, but that's it. However, I can always enjoy looking at the layouts I don't print on my computer. I don't print all my pictures out either. In fact, I don't print out many pictures anymore at all.... I just keep good backups. ;)

The best thing about these challenges is that they've kept me working with PSE. The more I use it, the better I get. It's kept me in scrapping mode for the past 19 weeks and that's the longest I've probably every scrapped consistently because I have always been a scrap-when-I'm-in-the-mood scrapper. When I wasn't in the mood, I wasn't going to drag out all my paper supplies. Digital allows me to take a break and work on something ... and then save/exit.

Do you use CM products? Their new books will allow you to integrate paper and digital layouts.

I hear where you are coming from too... I have to remind myself, sometimes, to calm down with the embellies and remember what I am doing this for.... But, I have also sort of changed my priorities from "dsiplaying my pictures" to "sharing the story..." and sometimes the right embellishments and composition can totally convey the mood I want in a LO and help my family and I relive the moment.... Like in the parade layouts, I feel lots of colors and embellishments actually enhance the photos and make you feel like you are "there." And actually, when I print my pages in 12 x 12, I feel that my pictures are large enough... and often a little larger than they would have been on a paper layout. But I totally get what you are saying..... Sometimes, especially in some digiscrap galleries, I will see a LO that is absolutely gorgeous, and then I will realize I did not even "notice" the pictures.

Sorry Melissa -- don't mean to hijack your thread! LOL!! I want to get going on my entry today! :)

Right. You do the requirements listed under A then do either B or C. You don't need to do both.

Tomorrow I'm leaving for Chicago for a few days. I should have Internet tomorrow, but Monday is going to be a busy day, so you post your layout on Monday I will send out your prize on Tuesday when I get back. :)

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who likes AK! Just in case you can't tell, I used the second paper under the grass at the bottom to make it wider. I went to Park B.

The other lady in the picture is a friend of mine. She had never been to WDW before and she said her husband would never take her. Well, being a lover of all things Disney, I had to take her myself (what a hardship, I know:rolleyes1). It was so fun seeing everything through her eyes. I have been so many times that sometimes I forget how many special things there are at the parks.

I always check what the printed size of pics, etc will be when I'm working on my LOs in photoshop. I try to have them at least 4x6 if I can help it (I hardly ever use enlargements in my paper LOs. Usually, only when Shutterfly has free 8x10s!) It depends on the look I'm going for. What I love about digi scrapping is that I can easily change the size of the pics if I want them smaller or larger than 4x6, when with my paper LOs, 97% of the time I just print everything 4x6.

I don't do challenges just to do them. I have way too many things I want to scrap to spend my time doing something I don't want to do. If I can't get it to work, then I just don't do them. I have SO many pics to scrap though from 2 trips, that I generally can get it to work. There was only one time I scrapped something for a DIS challenge that I wouldn't have done otherwise, but I was happy with the result, and printed it for my book. I'm working on my MK paper LOs now, so doing this challenge works perfectly (I still haven't started because I don't know how I want it to look just yet!)
