A Few Words From Our Host…
By Pete Werner

Hello everyone!! I would just like to say that I am very excited to see so many people interested in meeting and celebrating all that is the DIS. When I started the site 4 years ago I could never have thought that it would have the impact on others that it has shown it does. It was borne out of my passion and love for Disney. An infatuation it seems that more people share than I ever imagined or anticipated. In fact the feeling was so mutual that we were able to make a community out of it, and look where we are heading. Everyday I thank the “Powers That Be” for allowing me the opportunity to have such wonderful people around me. We can be thousands of miles apart but we are closer to each other than a lot of “off-line” next-door neighbors. Well I can’t wait to cross over the virtual threshold and meet you all face to face. I’ll see you all there!!!

Mini Meets During the Convention
By Marsha, Mac-key Mouse

Many of you have been coming up with some terrific ideas for Mini Meets during DIS Convention 2001.. I wanted to share some of them here.. Some involve food and others involves rides, thrill or otherwise.. I have not put together a set schedule and will do as we get closer to the
Convention itself. Some of these meets will involve an extra fee and some of them are free. Please feel free to pick and choose which events you want to attend....
Barb will be involved in hosting a visit to the Grand Floridian Resort where those in attendance will enjoy high tea in the beautiful lobby there. Nurse Kim wants to host a Dole Whip meet, anyone interested in eating one of the many delicious treats in Magic Kingdom, this is for you.. Luvdsy, Tia, will be hosting a Fantasyland adventure meeting probably on an EE day and riding Dumbo and the Carousel. Taryn would love to host a special singles meet early in the Convention so all those attending singularly will be able to meet others who are also attending by themselves.. Great idea.. PatinMinn wanted to do something behinds the scenes and I am not sure how that would be handled....Linda is working on this. Barry is going to host a WDW Thrill Ride Extravaganza for those so inclined. I would imagine TOT, RNR and whatever else he comes up with.. I also would love to see DIS Karaoke night myself.. We will see if we can pull that one off too..
Remember, these are optional mini meets open to everyone or head into the parks with your friends or family and hang out.. There are more mini meets in the works and of course, there will be many pin meets as well..

Tea At the Grand Mini Meet
By Barb

Hi, I’m Barb (board name, too) and I have the honor and pleasure of being the DIS hostess for the Grand Floridian Afternoon Tea mini-meet. The Tea is held from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm daily. We’ll be spending the afternoon together while we enjoy a cup of tea and light fare. The beverage offerings are traditional, flavored or herbal teas, specialty coffees and, in some cases, sparking wine. For your dining pleasure, the Tea offers a selection of tea sandwiches, scones, pastries, nut breads, and strawberries and cream. If you choose to order something to eat, the tea and/or sparkling wine is included. They even have a “special” offering for children. The tea sandwiches are peanut butter and jelly and the “tea” is chocolate milk. Hope to see you there.

Dole Whip meet at DIS-CON!
By NurseKim

Hey everyone! I'm hosting a Dole Whip mini-meet at the Convention! What is a Dole Whip? Well, it is a non-dairy dessert, similar to soft serve ice cream. Flavors include: Pineapple, Pineapple/Vanilla swirl (my favorite!), Vanilla, and Chocolate/Vanilla swirl.
So if you're a Dole Whip fan or want to try it for the first time, meet me at Aloha Isle in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom!
Keep an eye out for a date and time!

Pin Meets & Trading
By Lisa Tobin
With the dawn of the new millennium came a new facet of Disney collectibles - pins. While Disney had been issuing pins for many, many years it was really with the start of the Millennium celebrations that the started to encourage and promote trading. Now as many of you know there is a DIS board devoted to collectibles and pins seem to be the primary topic of conversation. So a primer of trading and pin meets is to follow.
How to start - slowly. Pins are an all consuming addiction as witnessed by the huge lines we stand in(longer than rides most times) and the hours we will arise to get these new releases(earlier than birds most times.) Most traders started by picking a theme, rides, character, etc.. It is also a good idea to start your trading with CMs as they won’t decline a trade unless they already have the pin on their lanyard. Lanyards are those necklaces you see us traders wearing.
The main topic here is actually pin meets. While they have not been scheduled yet , you can bet they will be abundant during the convention. So how do pin meets differ from regular DIS meets, well pins of course. And the fact that we tend to need a large space and lots of tables.
You will see us arrive with pin bags, backpacks, and even suitcases(for those really serious traders). At some point I fully expect to one of us just back the minivan up to the meet. Most meets begin socially enough and then out come the bags. Now you will see the range of traders from novices, who you can tell from that deer in the headlights look(I know because that was me last year) to the big guns, who seem to have them all. Please don’t be intimidated at DIS pin meets there is room for every end of the spectrum.
Most trades start with a simple - “What is that pin?”, and move on from there. Pins come in all sorts from rack (the ones that are unlimited and easily purchased), limited editions(these are made in specific amount and when sold out not reissued), special event(sold only on a specific day or weekend) and mystery(these a surprise pins released with no notice). Experienced trader will usually have a Holy Grail or pin that is rare or just special to them they are searching for and this will be their focus, but most traders will be interested in perusing everyone’s pin books.
Is a trade good or bad, that is probably the biggest topic of debate amongst traders but general rule is if both parties are happy then it is a good trade. If you are unsure, all you have to do is ask for a third parties opinion, this will usually be sufficient.
But I have found DIS pin meets to be always pleasant, always wonderful and highly recommend them even if all you want to do is look at the pins. Most traders love to tell you about a pin, what it is , how they got it, why it is special, so please ask.
COME ON DOWN!! Even if you don’t trade, pin meets are also very social and on occasion have gone in to the wee hours of the morning(so I have heard). Pin meets give you a chance to glimpse some of the history of Disney as many pins are older and represent times past. So come meet the traders, even if you don’t trade who knows maybe we can lure you in, like the voice says “There is always room for one more!!!”

The Walt Disney World Thrill Ride Tour

By Barry Hom

If you like your rides fast and extreme, you must join the Walt Disney World Thrill Ride Tour during the DIS Convention. This is not a time to drive slower than Grandma at Tomorrowland Speedway or take a slow boat in Pirates of the Caribbean!

The tour will occur on November 29 and start at the parks’ opening time. The tour will stop at every thrill ride in Walt Disney World and end at the 8:00 pm exclusive ride time at the Tower of Terror. There will be three groups of 20 to 25 people (depending on the number of people that sign up). The groups will hit the following rides:

Epcot: Test Track, Body Wars

Magic Kingdom: Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Barnstormer, Mad Tea Party, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Animal Kingdom: Kali River Rapids, Dinosaur

Disney-MGM Studios: Tower of Terror, Rock N Roller Coaster

The groups will visit the parks in the following order:

Group 1: Push It to 11: Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney-MGM Studios

Group 2: Extreme Thrills: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios
