DIS Computer people - buy a laptop or wait?

I am in the market for a new laptop. There aren't a lot of choices right now, because windows 7 will be available later this month. The computers that are available now are eligible for a "free upgrade" to W7.

Will the current ones price drop when W7 is released? Does anyone know what the W7 changes are?

I'm thinking that I would be buying an immediately outdated computer if I buy now instead of waiting.

When you buy a computer it is always "outdated". I would look more at the hassle of the doing the "upgrade" personally. Why go thru that headache?

Personally, I would wait until Oct 22nd which is the W7 release date and then start watching the ads. As we get nearer to Black Friday, new W7 computers will be on sale with better features.

Here's what *I* did. I bought a new laptop last Christmas. I shop thru my airline website in order to earn airline miles (all online shopping is done that way). During the holidays, stores offer good deals (sales) AND increase their miles per dollars spent. Example so-and-so may normally offer 2 miles for every dollar spent and at the holidays increase it to 4 miles for every dollar.

This is how I earned enough miles for my daughter and I to fly to Paris this past January.....in first class!

Anyway.......most stores (if you can wait) will start those sales after Thanksgiving!

Current laptops will almost always be cheaper, later. Most stores have a price match timeframe. our best buy time is two weeks.
