I don't know that I've ever used the popcorn smilie and if I have it's been after a thread has already gone way downhill or as a joke (and I haven't used it for a long time if I have used it). What drives me batty is when it's used at the very beginning of a thread that has the potential to go south. Like it's a prediction of things to come, which I find patronizing to the OP.

I'm not trying to be ugly but why not just tell the person that is being rude or whaever that they are being rude. I'm not sure what the point is of a code word. I promise if someone is being rude to me in person I'm not going to pull out a code word but probably several words for them.

Maybe Im just missing the point I think. Very easily done since I haven't had coffee today.

Maybe this pineapple thing is something that occurred in my real life. It sounds very familiar, something I remember people doing in response to people being rude.

Didn't they have some code word in "Meet the Fokkers"? I can't remember what it was, but it seems that there was something that Blythe Danner would say when she was trying to shut Robert DeNiro up.

There's a time and place for this guy , but it's not usually at the beginning of a serious thread. And we don't need about 5 people to use it on one page either!

The code word thing will surely lead to cliquish behaviour, and totally derail almost any thread that it's used on. That's the nature of the DIS, unfortunately.

Me, I'll just tell it like it is ...... politely.
