CherylDan - Sorry you didn't get the news you were hoping for. I'm right there with you on that merry-go-round. Hopefully, the news won't be all bad.

Laurie - Sounds like your DD is quite the socialite! She sounds like my DD when it comes to preparing for these dances. We could find a dress and shoes in under an hour and she always starts out at the sale rack, bless her heart. Not so much of that kind of shopping now that she's in college.

marcij - Have you tried the coconut macaroons yet to help counteract the diarreah? They really do work - they did wonders for me during my first course of chemo. I ate one with every meal I tried to eat and it kept the D at bay. Just make sure they are the fresh baked type, not the cookie type macaroons.

smiley - Happy you got good news about the lymph nodes :) Hopefully, things will continue to go well for you.

MaryAnn - I'm sure you're looking forward to that trip!

I had a little scare near the end of my infusion on Friday. Just as the carboplatin was about to finish, I started feeling flushed and my palms were very itchy. I had to get more fluids and it subsided in about twenty minutes. We're not sure what this means for next time. The carbo is being administered through the intraperitoneal port, so I'm wondering what the oncologist is planning for next round of chemo. Other than that, I've been feeling okay. Took my daughter to the batting cages yesterday to help her with her hitting now that she's joined a co-ed softball team at UCF. It's been helpful having her here this weekend. She never fails to keep me entertained!

I hope everyone is having a decent weekend and staying warm!

Smilie, I can see how your DH is so devoted to you as he is here today because of your care after his illness. My goodness that must have been scary.

Something kind of similar happened to my DH in May, 1994, just after we returned from our first trip bringing DS then 5, now 22, and DD then 3, now 20 to WDW.

Everything was fine when we flew home. DH got sick a day or two afterward. My employer had let go a whole department and in comes the survivors and me trying to pick up the pieces. To say the least I was working extreme hours. Anyway, we get back, DH is sick, but does not want to worry me. At the time he had no chronic conditions (unlike now:rolleyes:) but he calls me the second day back from the trip and asks me to take him to the doctor, so very unlike him. He never saw doctors. While we were waiting to see the doc DH is coughing up blood. The doc sent us directly to the hospital, do not pass go, do not stop for clothes, etc. DH has staff pneumonia. He was in the hospital 6 days, and the doc told me later DH could have died from this. I wondered later why he did not send him by ambulance.

No further ramifications from it thank goodness, and he was able to go back to work fairly soon. Not an auspcious beginning to our obsession bringing the kids to WDW, huh?

Not nearly as sick as your DH when they got the right meds to fight the staff into him but it was a scary first night in the hospital.

DH did get his mojo back, so to speak. DD15 was conceived February of the next year, during Mardi Gras. Ooh la la!

That is interesting about nerves only growing 2mm per day. i have never read or heard about that. Thanks for posting about that. I swear I learn new stuff here all the time.

Also, in addition to seeing a counselor at your cancer agency, ask there if they have a breast cancer support group. If they don't have one there, inquire whether there is a hospital based one. We have both of those here, and they were very helpful for me for several years after cancer. Once I went back to work in 2007, I started to let go of going to the groups. I do miss it.

Unfortunately, sometimes it is easier to talk to at survivor group meetings to non-family members about our fears and concerns with fighting cancer. We want to shield them at first. I found my kids, especially DD20 just could not handle it and completely tuned it out. I felt hurt at first but I realized later that it was the only way she could handle it. I was diagnosed during a crucial time puberty wise for her and she had to deal with it the best way she could.

Lisa, sorry you had that scare yesterday. Glad you have your daughter to entertain you this weekend. It is good that she is not far away and can come home for the weekend.

I so enjoyed our shopping yesterday as we stayed away from the mall, or BIG shopping as I call it. We were in and out at Burlington coat factory, checked out the shoe offerings at Shoe station right next door, popped into Sally's beauty supply to buy her toupee tape to keep DD15's party dress decent and that new flat iron, and the little gift shop where we found her rollup ballet slippers and a cute pearly necklace. I used my new iphone to google the gift shop, called them via a link, and found out they still had the ballet slippers. I have used the internet on my iphone before but this was the first time in this way.

Actually, DD15 did it. But I was oh so proud of my self anyways. Next time I might just do it myself!

DD15 ended up with 4 friends over last night to eat and sleep over. When I was out walking dog #2 yesterday afternoon, she came walking down to me to ask me if she could invite around 6 friends over. This was about 3:30 pm. By six pm, I had a chicken breast red gravy and a meatless gravy going in my double crockpot and a pretty darn good salad made, DH had vacuumed (he is so good about taking the cushions off the sofa and being thorough, unlike me), DD15 had cleaned her room, her sister's room, and her bathroom, and I had mopped the kitchen. Nothing like an incentive to whip the house into shape. I also managed to wash and change the sheets on our bed during this short time frame.

My cleaning lady is supposed to come sometime this week (she keeps changing the day on me). She is going to faint when she sees how clean things are.:lmao:

No worries, the dogs will shed their pounds of fur and make it look dirty again by the time she arrives.

Too much info about my boring life. Have a nice Sunday everyone. Gotta serve up some doughnuts. Wish I had me a king cake.

GAGWTA!

Good morning ladies

MinnieTink - what a touchig story about your mom. How wonderful that she can hold your ds again.

Laurie - sounds like your dd is great at shopping. I have never experienced proms and dances from the girls point of view. You were brave to have all those girls over too! I hope your dd has a wonderful time at the dance

smiley - Its good that you can get those resources if you need them. I think there is a support group at my hosp. but I wouldnt want to go there since I would have to say how one of the drs. almost killed me etc. Too strange. I think that was a Godwink for you too! The drs. here are too politically correct and never discuss religion etc. What a story about your dh. So glad he is here with you.

Lisa - I hope you do not have that bad reaction this week. How wonderful you got to spend time with your dd. She sounds like a real positive and encouraging person. I wish my ds were more like that sometimes. Ds21 does make me laugh alot sometimes.

Cheryl - I am sure you will be glad to get the latest testing behind you. I like your drs. leave no stone unturned attitude though.

Well everyone is back. Things should get back to normal by the week end. I have to wait to see about dh next trip. My one cousin said his dd is having another baby in July. That is exciting! More bad weather on the horizon here.

GTAGWTA.

Haven't been doing much since Sunday afternoon. I started having the bone pain again at that point though it's not as severe as last time. The oncologist has me taking Zyrtec and Tylenol every day along with the Vicodin, so the pain isn't as intense.

I've been sleeping a lot the past two days. As my nurse friend always tells me, "Listen to your body!" Hopefully, I'll be feeling a bit more energetic as the week goes on.

:goodvibesGAGWTA!!:goodvibe

marcij...hope you are feeling better, and able to find something to eat that agrees with you.

Laurie, sounds like your DD is keeping you busy these days with all the shopping and cooking! I had to giggle at your 55 degrees comment being a bit chilly....wow, I'd LOVE a 55 degree day! :thumbsup2 I don't know why we live where we do, I mean I know why, but gosh darn it, I think I'm mis-filed! ;)

Lisa, sleeping a lot is good. I always figured if your body didn't need it, you wouldn't do it. Glad the bone pain isn't as bad this time. I like the vicodin idea, makes me wish I would have thought to ask for it. If I have to go thru chemo again, I'm going to remember that. The bone pain always seemed like the worst part for me.

LMP, how did the latest blood test turn out? Hopefully you will get results in a timely manner! Stay safe in the upcoming weather.

Smiley, glad you like the new doctor, and hope the support groups work out for you. How's the pain doing? Still needing to have it drained?

I went for my CT scan today, as expected I don't know anything. They said to check in a few days. Darn tumor makers are making me crazy with not having any systems and yet they persist to go up. Under 30 is considered normal, my last count was 135. Kinda hard to wrap my head around it sometimes. :headache:

DD has starting working at Cosmic Rays, she is very busy. Haven't talked to her much, but it seems she is getting adjusted. Oddly enough, Cosmic Rays is one place we have never had a meal. Says her costume is hideous. :lmao: I haven't seen a picture yet, hopefully she will send one soon. It's kinda funny that I never really paid much attention to all the different costumes. Sometimes something really different would catch my eye, but not the detail that each land/park/place has. We really started paying attention last December when we were there, wondering what DD would wear. It was really interesting to check them all out.

So dry here. Please send us some unwanted rain or snow. Keeping up with all of you. GAGWTA!

We'll be getting another foot of snow tomorrow. I'll be happy to send it your way! :rotfl:

:scared1: oh no! We have had rain, showers, drizzle, torrential downpours, "Scottish mist" in homage to Robbie Burns yesterday....you get the idea. I am glad though we've had no snow. I would gladly share all this liquid sunshine with you MerryPoppins if I could :goodvibes

So our new way of eating is going very well. So far I've lost 15 lbs. 12 of which was in the time following diagnosis in Nov. But before Christmas. Hubby had lost about 20. Then of course over the holidays that stopped even though we were still trying to avoid sugar, but at least we did not gain. As of yesterday we've both lost another 3 lbs. & dear daughter who moved back home with us has lost 3 too! We are eating everything we can organic (which with the cost of food now means we can't afford to eat as much anyway! Lol) no sugar, watching sodium & fat, meat only 1 or 2 times a week. Lots more veg & fruit. One thing I'm doing is using splenda in combination with small amounts of honey or agave syrup in tea, coffee, baking, on porridge etc. I think from what I've read splenda is safe as apposed to aspartame or other artificial sweeteners. (I hope!) and for treats we are eating chocolates made with maltitol so has no sugar. They are sooooo good! Maltitol comes from corn syrup, so again more natural. We find that just 1 piece cures the sweet tooth instead of making you want more like sugar does. Hubby's blood sugar is back to normal (yay) too. I'm not actively trying to lose weight at this time, but rather trying to treat my body the best I can & limit the amount of bad things I ingest. We did have one of my mother in law's amazing home made butter tarts at the grand daughters birthday party on the weekend, but we skipped the cake! Lol... Anyway, just rambling about what I guess would almost be a type of adjuvant therapy? That and taking vitamin D & B12.

We did the same thing, smiley. It started at diagnosis and we've tried to keep it up (though it's waxed and waned a bit over the years, for sure!). We've been working hard trying to eat healthily for us and for the kids. When you look at the types of foods that are out there it just makes you sad to think of what our kids are growing up with as opposed to generations past. Thankfully, with lots of effort, our kids eat pretty well, ie a good variety of food with lots of colorful fresh vegetables especially. They weren't always happy about it but now they look forward to it ("Ooh, what are we having?") which makes me happy to hear. After diagnosis we went organic, too. But it is challenging to find good organic that doesn't break the bank. I was also torn about the sugar/splenda thing and decided to take the little bit of sugar road instead of the artificial sweetners as much as possible. I do drink a daily diet ginger ale but that's about it. Yesterday I made an interesting African Vegetable soup that had sweet potato, cauliflower, carrots, chick peas, kale, onion/garlic, etc, in a cinnamon/turmeric flavored broth. It was pretty good even though I had to substitue a couple of ingredients. The kids helped me chop the vegetables. We all liked it. (Probably won't become a favorite, but it was good. Bought a whole jar of turmeric so I guess I'll have to use it up. :) )

This is one of the good sides of having cancer - taking better care of ourselves and being conscious of what we're putting in our bodies (and that of our families!).

I went up and had an ultrasound guided aspiration of my surgical site this am. My surgeon had taken out about 1/2 cup but he took out just under a full cup today. With the ultrasound he was able to go into all the pockets of fluid to get them all. It feels much less heavy and tense, but it hurts right now!! she was pushing on it with the ultrasound wand to push the fluid toward the needle. Now of course you can see just how much tissue was removed in the surgery and my tata looks like an aliens. I'm not especially vain, and no one gets to see them but me, but I've had a real pity party since I got home. took some tylenol, and came here to garner some sympathy :sad1:
The soup sounds good! and did you read the stuff about tumeric? here's one article from BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8328377.stm also they found something in black pepper...I had told hubby everything we eat is going to have tumeric and black pepper in it from now on! :lmao: We do love a good curry, I make this awesome dish called mango chicken with a mango chutney in it, and curry paste. I use the authentic type, Pataks is a good brand.
We all love all the ingredients you listed in your soup individually so I'm sure they would be good together! We grow our own kale, in fact hubby just started some seeds 2 days ago for some fresh plants this year! was the soup purreed? or chunky? did you use anything for the broth like chicken stock?
I'm feeling better already, chatting here. :goodvibes

Oh here's another BBC site about it, that has recipes! you can use up your tumeric! :) http://planetgreen.discovery.com/food-health/tumeric-kills-cancer-recipes.html

Good for you for trying to go healthier. I just didn't feel like eating after diagnosis (Oct.) and have lost 15 pounds since then. I do feel better and I needed to lose it. I did eat healthier for a while, but since starting chemo I've gone back to eating whatever sounds good, which often isn't much. These last couple of days I've found things to eat with protein so I'm feeling stronger. As someone who has always struggled with weight I never in a million years dreamed it would be difficult to eat. Now I know what people mean when they said it to me before and I looked at them like they were crazy. I now get it.

Wow -- that soup sounds interesting. Only one of my kids will eat soup and he's pretty picky about the kind of soup. Both boys do pretty good with veggies or fruit, but aren't big in to soups, casseroles etc.

That sounds painful. You have a right to complain! I'm still a newbie here but I know that part of this group is being able to spill our troubles/pain and now we'll get support so no guilt! I hope you are feeling better ASAP. :grouphug:

:) aw Marci, I hope u feel better soon! How long after you get the chemo does the nausea usually last? My one sister who had both the same kind of breast cancer I have, and lung cancer, said that if she ate something high protein right away after, before she felt sick, it made the nausea much less for the whole time. She said too, basically u just have to eat what u can tolerate & not worry about it.

Good morning ladies

smiley - your procedure sounds painful but glad all that fluid is drained out. I hope you are recovering from the procedure

marci - hope you can find things that agree with you.

Linda - I am so with you on the snow. I think we had at least another foot from last night.

Lisa and Sha - I am so jealous of you two in Florida right now.

Hmm, whats new? Ds23 was offered a full time job!!:) Praise God!! He will let them know etc. Its a good salary for starting out around here.

Because of the snow dh has a noon opening and ds has a 2 hour delay and ds20 college is closed. DS21 starts next week.

Dh had a little incident with an immovable object. He is going to the collison center by friday. We dont want to deal with the insurace co. since we had the big deer claim last year. I am sure this is going to cost $$. Sigh, sigh.

Oh and next thurs. -sun. dh is going back to California. (It was suppose to be today) and then it just keeps getting better...dh dept. chairman has demanded that dh go with him to China and when will this be? why none other than leaving on valentines day and covering dh b day. I am so upset:headache: I will have to think about what to do with all the ff miles. I think we could stay forever at the Swan for free. hmm, maybe food and wine??Never did that before.

GTAGWTA.

Congrats to your son, MaryAnn.

Wishing for less pain and more comfort for those of you in treatment.

Ann, how is it in summy Florida!

I found out yesterday, the extreme achiness I have suffered with since Sunday is actually-the flu.

I could not believe it since I had the shot back in December.

Trying to work from home and even went into the office yesterday for a while which drove me to going to the doctor.

I can't function. I am on the Tamiflu but could have knocked it out faster if I had gone in to be tested Monday. ah, c;'st la vie.

I think it's more of a food aversion and tummy just feeling off. Hard to explain really. I will try the high protein idea and see how that works next week.

Congrats to your DS! And I feel your pain about car issues. DH was eating at a restaurant on Monday night in Dallas. He was driving my suburban and had the windows folded in. Someone must have tried to take the mirror off or the whole drivers side mirror. He didn't notice it because he was in a hurry, it was late (for the kids b/c it was after my son's basketball game) and kind of dark back there. He said he remembered seeing glass on the ground but thought it had been there before. He called the restaurant and of course they had no camera in the back parking lot. We're just going to pay for it as we don't want it on the insurance since we're about to add a teenage son to our policy. That little mirror is as much as the whole side mirror though labor on the two different things is certainly different. Frustrating indeed!

Sorry about your DH and the travel. The timing does stink. Good for you for trying to look at the silver lining.

Congrats to your son, MaryAnn.

Oh no! That happened to DH and both DS's the week before my last treatment and we've all had the shot or mist. Pediatrician said he's seeing lots of cases of the flu in kids who had the vaccine. I hope you feel better soon.

GAGWTA! Busy weekend. MIL is having eye surgery Tuesday. DH is going to stay there for a week.

The moisture we've been praying for is set to arrive M & T as ice and snow. Getting supplies in case I'm snowed in.

:rockband:party:Good afternoon ladies

Laurie - I hope you are having lots of chicken soup and hot tea with lemon and that you are feeling better day by day. I wonder if you got it from oldest dd??

Lisa - hope you didt experience too many bad side effects from the treatment. Sending you lots of prayers and of course a big ole

Marci - yes with the boys that is exactly why we didnt wantg to do it etc. Sorry about your dh too. Hoping your treatments are going well. Hmm, I could go for some spring creeek bbq or a nice steak from the taildust about now:)

smiley - hope your fluid build up is subsiding as the pain too

Melissa - prayers for your mil. Hoping her surgery will go well. Its good your dh will be with her. I am sure you are not looking forward to the ice and snow either.

well ladies you are all invited to.......:rockband:party:

My 2 year cancerversary oarty today!!
