Good afternoon ladies

marci - glad you have one procedure out of the way. I hope the pain lessens and you heal quickly. Wishing you all the best next week. My wheelchair advice. (I dont like the ecv). My dh pushes me around when I am tired etc, but as snapoy (Laurie) knows my dh is a big guy so he is ok with it. I use it as a walker too since I always feel I am leaning to the left. I walked with it more for balance last time. If you are staying on site you can ask for a complimentary wheelchair at your resort. You can keep it for your whole stay.
Of you are not staying on site the cheapest would be to get a length of stay wheelchair. (I think you get a paper / cpn. type thing.) You can use it at multiple parks. The longest walk to renting a wheelchair is at AK. Handicapped viewing at parades etc. is so-so. Very crowded during the time you are going, hence the whole family may not be together. My dh is fine with sitting behig me and talking to the other standing family members. I usually sit for the parades, fireworks and candelight processional.

Do you live in the dallas area by elizabeth? We use to live in the Duncanville/Cedar Hill/Lancaster/Desoto area. Youngest ds is a texan!

Lisa - sorry that you have to go for more testing. Did the path say it was anything definete or just not breast ca tissue. My 2nd tumor they didnt know what it was, just tumor?? and not thyroid cancer cells, so a mystery for sure too. You are doing great with keeping fit. I cannot say the same. I will see what the cardiologist says when I go to her.

Laurie -Glad you "graduated" from pt!! I guess I would have your dh try the meals too. Sounds like a wonderful weekend for your dd. I am sure she will look like a princess: and you will be on :cloud9:

Cheryl - Sorry you have to have the scans next week. I know my onc. told me if my blood test was bad in may she would have to "go and find" the cancer too. I have 2 more reclast calls to do. I might wait for dh to come home since he knows the one pharmacy. My dh works for the govt. I dont really say what he does. Lets just say he is working on a big project and has to go to all these countries because no one here has the intelligence etc. to do what he needs to get done and the cost here is prohibitive, so our govt. must go elsewhere hence all his travels, but now with his new project I think he actually has a company here who has the intellectual resources to get the job done etc He thinks he will be going to CA and Wash. state (not dc) alot. My surgeons said dh is a "smart guy" and gets to go to all the fun places!!:) Planning all my surgeries around dh was not fun for sure.

I missed dh call. He might call one more time. With all this "news" on tv right now I will be just glad when he lands. Ds22 asked me for an idea for marketing at his work. I gave him an idea and they are now submitting it to management. They loved it! Just a slogan etc. He did say my mom thought of it. I said why did you say that! There goes his chance of getting hired from a temp.

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all. Blessings always.

I knew you would provide good input on the wheelchair/ECV issue, Maryann, especially since you go during the Christmas rush. I forgot about the advantage of using it as a walker so you can get exercise with it that way.

It would be wonderful if your DH's work travel remains more in the US. maybe you could go with him more.

Cheryl, hang in there girl. Sounds like your docs are being very thorough. finding and treating early is important. It gets old though, and I sure you want to get it over with and move on to some fun stuff for a change.

Lisa, I noticed how much smaller DH's stomach looks in dress clothes tonight. He also dropped down to size 40 dress pants and they are not the least bit tight. He has a ways to go but at least he is losing inches if not a lot of pounds right now. I told him not to buy any more clothes right now. I love the way he looks right now. He did not exercise much today and he did not feel nearly as well as other days. Exercise really makes a difference, and you sure are proof of that. You are an inspiration!:worship:

Marci, I found the lymph node removal to be the most painful aspect of the mastectomy surgery. It takes a little time but the twinges do subside with time. Did you get info on exercises to help get mobility in that arm? I am also careful with that underarm area, shaving with just an electric razor there since I have no feeling on that side. I am praying for good results for you.

I guess whether you have full node removal or just the sentinel node type, you are at risk for the twinges. I did not realize that.

Ah, DD is off at the dance. Her hair came out so cute. Pulled to the side with a loose braid around the back.

My mom came over to see her before she left. She was shocked at how amazing she looked. So different that seeing her in her usual t shirt and shorts.

There were about 5-6 couples in a group together. The parents of one of the boys invited all the parents to their house to take pictures before the kids went out to eat at this very cool nearby restaurant that is built in an old renovated building that used to be the store on a plantation. Real quaint place and extremely good creole cooking-she texted me she had crawfish ettoufee for dinner.

Sometimes not eating meat pays off!

What a property, they have horses, a llong narrow man made lake to water ski on the property, right on the river road that goes along the levee by the Mississippi river. Well, he is a hand surgeon so I guess he does pretty well. The built the lake and the barn for the horses first. I think they just moved in to the house in the last year.

DD looked like she was having fun. She is good friends with her date so no real awkwardness. And most of the girls she knows as well. Some of the girls' dresses made them look like they were in their twenties. Oh my!

We got to chat at length with her date's parents. I know the mom from the Come Lord Jesus classes I did last year at DD's school with the eight graders. The mom is an occupational therapist and a heck of a mom. It was fun to learn more about their background. Although we are a lot older than his parents, turns out she grew up in the same neighborhood where my family lived in Baton Rouge during the mid-sixties. Small world.

Thank you for the wheelchair advice. I live about 35 miles from Elizabeth, and probably about 30 miles from where you were asking about. We are southeast of downtown Dallas. Glad you have a Texan!

You know, my surgeon said on Thursday that most people say the lymph node is worse than the regular mastectomy. I'm just really sore right now. He won't let me raise my arm over shoulder level yet. I go back and see him a week from tomorrow. I'm getting lots of rest, walking every day and using the arm for little things, but not to hold anything heavy or reach to get things.

Thanks as always for the advice everyone! I'm feeling better about the wheelchair thing. I hope all of you recovering or feeling poorly are better and wish everyone well on tests results/doc appts.

Good afternoon ladies

Thinking of everyone with surgery, procedures, drs. visit etc. this week. Hm, I think that is most of us :)

Dh is home and I am happy.:)

We had about 60 trick or treaters and almost ran out of candy. Ds18 went to get more. It was crazy busy here. They braved the cold for sure.

I called the one pharmacy before who I thought would have the med, no luck!! Only 1 more left, then I am calling the drs. office back and see where I can get this. The ins. co. did give me some home infusion number. I told her I dont want a home infusion, I just want the med. So maybe I can call the ins. co. to verify if they have the med? (the home infusion place) Wow, makes you appreciate all those med. office people who do the denials, rpe precerts etc. Since I used to work in the med. field before too, I am ok with it, dealing with the run around and frustration. I just wish my ins co would make it more easier to navigate etc.

GTAGWTA. Have a great day everyone.

As many of you have had happen, I didn't get as good of news as I had hoped from my sentinel node biopsy. Two of the three had microscopic metatastic cancer cells. My good news is that because of my age and health, my surgeon said we could go ahead with the reconstruction, as the third node was clear and the cells are small he's hopeful the other ones he takes out in my surgery will be clear. So, everything is still set up for the 15th.

My piece of good news is that I am not a carrier of the bc gene. :goodvibes

For anyone that has done the sentinel node surgery, how long did it take before your arm stopped bothering you? It actually hasn't been as bad as I feared, but I'm just curious as to how much longer it will bother me. I'm guessing right up until my other surgery...:rotfl:

I hope everyone has a good day. Good luck on doctor's appts., tests, surgeries etc. GAGWTA!

Marci, sorry you didn't get the results you were hoping for. I had the sentinel node surgery with my mastectomy, so I'm afraid I can't be of any help there. But it sounds like a good thing that your doctor wants to go ahead as planned.

LMP, bet you are thrilled that DH is finally home! He certainly has an exciting sounding job! Any luck with the Reclast yet??

I went for my 2nd CT scan Monday, havent heard anything about it yet. Met with the diabetic education nurse and the nutritionist today, it was actually very interesting. I'm very hopeful that I'll be able to control it.

Hope everybody had a good Halloween....GAGWTA!!!

Marci, I think I mentioned earlier two of my nodes were also positive. I remember being devastated at that but there is a poster here, Dan Murphy, whose wife Marie had 11 positive nodes who was many years out and she was (and still is!) fine so that always gave me hope. I am 7 years out now. They treat you a little more aggressively when your nodes are positive, so that helps. People who have no nodes positive can still go on to have metastatic disease, and people with nodes positive often don't. So go figure. It's just the nature of this disease: basically not completely predictable.

I had a lot of problems with the axillary node dissection, but again, it was done during my surgery (partial mastectomy, aka lumpectomy). I had 8 nodes removed in total but my scar is very deep and tender/painful to this day. I had to go back every couple of days after the surgery to get the "banana" of fluid drained out from under my arm. (I think in some cases they should put drains in.) I also had some early problems with lymphedema but once I did a course of PT it was better and only flares up if I'm eating salty foods or flying. I wear a sleeve when I fly which I hate, but it beats the alternative. Remember to do your exercises now and after your surgery, it's important. Be sure you have pain medicine on board so you can do them.

Cheryl, it is interesting learning about diabetes, isn't it? Most people think it's "sugar" related (as it used to be thought of) but now we know much of it is about carbohydrate control as they break down into sugar. Exercise helps a lot as it burns the sugars for fuel. Remember to stick with complex carbs when you eat that are healthy like vegetables and whole grains. Did the nutritionist give you a "goal" of carb control for each meal? One side of my family were all diabetics and I'm another that had gestational diabetes. My numbers were actually borderline - and I thought ok ;) - but doc wanted to be aggressive because of my family history but also I had two placentas which each secrete anti insulin hormones; I also have PCOS which is insulin related so I have to watch my carbs/follow a low carb diet as well. It isn't easy but you get used to making better choices whenever you can. That 1/3 cup of rice per serving still kills me, though. :lmao:

Well I am off to the doctor's this morning. I have had a ton of appts lately. With my routine onc appt last month she asked me some questions and I answered them, and those answers bought me some tests. :sad2: I had to have a pelvic ultrasound and it was ok (thankfully) but now I have to have an endometrial biopsy which I really don't want to have but I know they're just being safe. I had one before and it wasn't pleasant as I recall. :scared1: To make matters worse (sort of) I had to get a new GYN. I'm expecting all will wind up ok, just kind of a PIA. All related to ONE minor episode of irregularity. Gotta love Oncs. Today I'm seeing my primary doc for some swelling in my (unaffected) arm that started this summer at baseball moving a huge picnic table and got worse moving furniture around at home. I thought it would be better by now but it's still swollen. So I'm sure that will trigger some other stuff as well. :rolleyes1 Good news is that the tendonitis in my hip (which always worries me) hasn't changed so she thinks that's not anything to worry about. Funny how the things WE worry about often aren't the things THEY worry about. So off I go. Wish me luck.

I hope you got good news on the ct. It took me a couple of weeks after meeting with my nutritionist when I had GD to get with the program, but then it wasn't too bad. I hope the adjustment goes as well as it can.

Good luck! I'm sorry you're having to do these extra tests. It's funny how different doctors interpret different things. In my genetics results meeting, they told me that not carrying the gene probably saved me a surgery (taking out my ovaries) yet when my obgyn called to check in yesterday, he mentioned we would most likely take them out after I finish the surgery, chemo etc.

I know I keep saying this, but y'all are truly great. It's so helpful to hear advice and how other people have done who have already walked this road. GAGWTA.

Take care, Linda.
I hope the procedure is not too uncomfortable today.

Please let us know how your doing after the tests.

I had forgotten you had borderline gestational diabetes too. Amazing coincidences round here. Did you control it with diet or meds? I was able to do it with diet but it sue made me nervous

Marci, sorry to hear you had some positive nodes. It does help to hear the stories of others here with similar bumps in the road so to speak.

DH is still doing well with his glucose readings. He has not gotten back any results yet from last Friday's many blood tests. I am really itnerested int he A1c results.

He is exercising steadily. That seems to be a huge factor. We are waiting on the very low calorie meal replacement diet plan for now. He has too many conflicts in November.

Saw the ortho doc yesterday and he confirmed my theory- my frozen shoulder is thawed! No more PT. Time to Party!

Good morning ladies

Linda -, so sorry you have to go through all this testing. I guess they are going with the "leave no symptom unchecked" attitude, which is good. I know what you mean about finding a new gyn. Mine I found out retired, but my endo told me about a lady who I think I might like. I havent gone in years and the endo gave me a little lecture, added on my to do list sometime. I am hoping all goes well for you.

Marci - sorry about your news, but it sounds like your dr. has a good plan for you. I like how you said y'all, reminds me of how much I miss Texas!!

Cheryl - I am glad you have such a positive atttitude about handling the diabetes. I hope you get a good report from your tests too. I am sure the waiting is frustrating. I struck out with the 2 pharmacies on the reclast, so I guess I will call the infusion number they gave me next.

Lisa - how are you doing??

Laurie - Time to :dance3:. Yeah for no more frozen shoulder!! I wish I could say the same. I just tried to lift it and get nothing near 50%, maybe 30. Guess I should go back to pt. Even ds18 said I should.

Pats mom - I hope your treatment was bearable and that the side effects are not too bad.

Well yest. was my sonogram. I was gritting my teeth when she was doing the L side it was so painful. She said - are you all right? I said, just do what you have to do. She said it would be over soon and it was. Now today dh took me to the oncologist. And..good news!! my sonogram was great, so I am thanking God!! I am so happy!! So her plan is to see me in 6 months and then I will get the testing. 2 days of shots and then a blood test on day 5 like last year. So hopefully this will be done before we go to disney in May. I told her my jaw hurts. She told me I should go see the ENT surgeon (hmm, visions of linda). The pt place was so nice to ds and gave him an early b day party with brownies and a card. That was so sweet of them. And ds22 got asked to be an usher in alyssas sisters wedding in 2 weeks. Did you see my shower thread question ont the cb. I have decided to not even go to the shower now. I will just mail a card with money in it. I guess its hurtful to me that dh and I were not invited to the wedding. Even ds18 asked me about it. Oh well, such is life. I am on :cloud9: today. But of course I know that can all change at any time, but today is good!!:) Oh and in my little contest hobby, I won another book, hmm, why cant I ever win a disney trip;)

GTAGWTA. Have a great day everyone. Blessings to you all always.

Maryann, I'm glad things are going well for you. When, in May, are you and John going to be at WDW? I just booked my airfare today for May 9-16 (staying at The Swan, ofcourse ;))

I was so surprised to find out Alyssa was the friend you were asking prayers for here on the DIS and it was her story in Guideposts! I had the Chief's secretary read her story. My oldest DS is a big Yankee's fan!

TC:cool1:

I havent booked it yet, but I am thinking around the 20th. I am toying with the idea of having the ds come after finals for a family vacation but I dont know about that. Dh wants peace and quiet away from them. I know when we want they dont have the free dining, so I want to see if there is a bounceback in the room in december or see how many ff miles we will need. I wish we were going the same time.

Good afternoon ladies. Hope you don't mind me stopping in to pick your brains. ;)

Had a mammogram on Tuesday and got a letter today they they found an architectural distortion in the upper left breast in MLO view. I had my last one done a year ago and there were no issues. So I guess a follow-up is next.

But- just last month I had a PET scan done so if something was brewing wouldn't it show up there? Would it warrant them maybe pulling my PET scan and looking back over it?

Is this anything I should be too concerned about?

Wow, phorsenuf, you have had your share of problems lately, haven't you? I don't think a PET is specific enough, it's more of a whole body scan. They'd probably get more specific information about your breast from a breast MRI. Just a guess, though. First I believe they do additional mamm views and/or an ultrasound, then possibly even a biopsy if a solid tumor is suspected (of which 80% are benign). But that's probably getting way ahead of ourselves. See what they say on call back. A PET scan will ideally pick up new/fast cell growth and infections as I understand it. There are also false positives, just like with MRI. It's really just one tool they use in diagnostics, and not the only one they rely on nor rely on most heavily. With all that said, it would be worth a re-look at the PET but they'd still go ahead with other testing more specific to the breast. HTH.

Good morning ladies

phorsenuf - wishing you all the best

KJ - How are you doing??

We are having a dinner at church tomm. so I am cooking right now. Dh got a great job review, the highest you can get. Now we will see what the raise percentage will be. I think this will be done by his new boss, who used to be his old boss. Nice guy, but not very generous with the $$. Oh well. Its a good trade off for peace etc. He mentioned to dh about going to Russia again for a new project:scared1:. Dh said no way, my wife said not again etc. Ds20 applied for a job at a gorcery store by college. That is progress for sure. :)

This week coming us is the eye doctor and dr. waste of my time. Only getting the med refill. Hmm, how do I politely ask him, why do I still not know the results of my blood tests after 5 weeks??

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all always. Have a great week end.

Brrr. It sure has suddenly turned cold here in the Sunshine State. It was 50 last night, but with the wind chill it felt like 40. The temp in the pool has dropped 12 degrees in two days. I'm not turning the heater on until Tuesday since I have to go to Miami tomorrow to see the gynecologist/oncologist.

I've been feeling great since my surgery. I'm only two minutes off my best time on my walk. The plastic surgeon said I probably won't have the rest of my reconstruction surgeries until next Spring. He wants to give the radiated side time to heal more completely.

Laurie - I bet you're happy no more PT. You go girl! Kudos to you DH on his weight loss. Exercise is definitely the key. It doesn't matter what diet you're following - if you don't exercise, the weight loss is much slower.

MaryAnn - Hooray for your DH for saying no more Russia trips. Hope DS gets the job at the grocery store. My DH has also applied for a part time job at Publix. He's suddenly realizing his allowance won't cover the amount of money he needs for gas lol.

marcij - Sorry to hear you're having so much pain from the lymph node surgery. I had mine the same time as the mastectomies the first time and remember how difficult it was to get range of motion back in my left arm. I did the finger walk up and down and wall to help with the movement. When I had the lymph nodes out on the right armpit, the recovery time wasn't as bad because I had been swimming and lifting weights for months. Hang in there!

phorsenuf - Sending good thoughts your way as you await your next course of action.

CherylDan - Hoping you get good news on your scan.

So, off to Miami tomorrow and then spending the next few days getting ready for our WDW trip. Hoping the weather warms up a bit before Thursday!

Good afternoon ladies

Lisa - wishing you all the best today. and getting ready for a trip is fun for sure!! Of course I will have to hear all about it when you get back and of course I want lots of food reviews.

Cheryl - hope you get a good report too. Wisihing you all the best sista:hug:

I am :sad1: today. Its the day my sister died. The weather here is terrible too. Ds22 is home with a stomach virus. I just made him soup. Yest. he went and ordered the tux for the wedding. Good he knows not to talk to me about it. I only asked how much it was. Ds19 announced he will not help me at the bible school next year. Fine with me. Ds20 and ds19 were giving me a huge headache yest. I guess ds20 really does not want a new cell phone.
Tomm. I have dr. waste my time. Oh what fun. And then maybe you will all know the mystery answer of..why did I have to wait 5 weeks to get my blood test results??? I guess he will just do an..umm etc. :confused3

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

Wow, sure has been quiet in here lately!:listen:

How's everybody doing? :grouphug:There are quite a few of us with testing & waiting....Linda how did all your appts go? LMP, seeing Dr. Waste My Time (love that name!) phoresnuf any news? Patsmom, hope treatment is going ok. I'm sure I'm missing some....

Lisa, hope you are enjoying your trip! And woohoo to Laurie on the official release from PT!

I'm still waiting for the results from my latest CT. Apparently my onc is on vacation....ok, so somebody else can't read the results to me??? :rolleyes1 I'm doing fine with my carb counting...it really isnt as bad as I thought it would be. My plan is 3 carb servings for breakfast and lunch, 4 for dinner, and 2 for a bedtime snack. (15 grams is a serving). Only thing I have to keep in mind is that I can't save them up, like skip breakfast and add them to dinner.

DH & I are planning a week long road trip on our way to WDW for Christmas....and it just so happens that we will be in Nashville Dec 19, and I was lucky enough to score some tickets to the Garth Brooks concert!!!! Woohooo!!! He's doing a benefit for the flooding victims last summer. Nine sold out shows over 6 days. Should be a crazy good time....I'm probably more excited about this than the WDW portion of the trip!

GAGWTA!!!!!!!:goodvibes

Good afternoon ladies

Linda - how were all your tests?

Cheryl - sorry you have to wait for your results too. I am sure it is beyond frustrating. But think of seeing Garth:cloud9:. Sounds like the diet adjustment is doing well for you.

Laurie - hope things are good with you and the family

PatsMom - hope your treatment is tolerable today. I know you said the side effects are cumulative toward the end.

Lisa - Where are you staying? Have a great trip sista!! Enjoy, enjoy.

KJ - hope all is well

marci - thinking of you too. I know before my surgery I was running around like a nut tying up all the loose ends, yeah, I always think my dh and the 3 ds cant function without me.

Anne - thinking of you too. and Barbara.

Well come on.. know you are all just dying to know the mystery answer and it is...um...:confused3. We have a winner quote from dr. waste my time. The answer was um. And speaking of wasting my time..I sat in the waiting room 1 hour and 15 min. Dh was napping until they called him...

Linda..
He said my potassium is out of range (too high) and wants to repeat it. I asked what would cause this. He is a terrible diagnostician. He said maybe the blood came out too fast in the tube and gave a false reading????? I told him I asked them to butterfly me and it came out really slow:confused3 and he gave me a B12 shot as that was way under the normal limit. Gheesh. I sat there over a month waiting. Why wonder I am so tired. I also had a flu shot and both of them he wore no gloves:scared1:. Is this normal.???

My plan. I asked him for the blood results. Told him I was taking them to the endo for my reclast etc. I am faxing them to the endo to look at and saving them for the next dr. I am also sending a copy of the new report to the endo so maybe she will call me faster etc. He did comment about my draining belly button...yeah I know..I know...I am seeing the surgeon next month.

Oh yes, dont you think its time to get a new dr.?????
