GAGWTA, Ladies!

DS received his acceptance letter to the Arts Magnet yesterday. :) We are so proud of him! I hope everyone waiting for school letters gets good news soon! :wizard:

Woo hoo!! Yippee!:dance3::yay::yay::banana:

Great news! Here's hoping LMP's son and Ann's daughter get similar news soon.

On our home front it appears that DD14 will be going to the Catholic high school after all. The admissions package was not real clear on when we had to sign up for the LEAP test and we missed the cutoff for registration, although the test is more than a month away.

The school board won't budge.

She has had yearly standardized testing, but the public school only accepts THEIR testing.

Oh well, maybe the Lord is leading us in this direction for a reason. I was very upset yesterday when I discovered all this but I have moved on. DD14 is such a trooper, I mean she is a doll, she is just rolling with in. She actually has more friends going to the Catholic high school, in fact, almost the entire school goes to either the girls or boys high school, so she will be in good company.

I guess I won't be retiring any time soon.

Holy moly, is that $9,135 plus $500 registration? Ah but that includes the use of a comptuer for 4 years with maintenance ( you don't get to keep whatever computer they are using when you graduate).

Does give the girls good computer skills when the exit to college, but I hate them having that computer with them 24/7.

She left for mass at 5:45 am anyway, so I guess I am not a bad example????

And here I am posting at 6:45 am in the am.

Hello, I'm not a member of your thread but I just saw it and I have a question and I'm hopeful someone here can help me.......

Just found out a few days ago that one of our friends has stage 4 breast cancer. She called me on the phone to tell me. It was a shock to her as well as to her family. She lives across the US so I can't go see her right now. My question is : what is most appropriate to do? most appreciated? Do I send cards? Certainly not get well card..... Do I send emails? Do I send a gift? something funny? something serious? She is starting chemo asap.

I'm at a loss. I want to do something but I don't want to do the wrong thing.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you to anyone who can offer advice. You can pm me if you wish.
:flower3: Have a good day!

edited to say -- she is 60 and her daughter doesn't live at home but she has a husband so she's not alone

I want to add, I am now thinking of buying her a fun and silly wig. Maybe hot pink! She has an outstanding sense of humor -- what do you all think? Laughter is good, right? I think it will make her laugh!

Good afternoon ladies

Dizneygurl - thanks for popping in. Wonderful that you are blessed with these 2 special survivors in your family. Have a great trip for spring break.

Grumpy's Gal - I havent actually sieen anyone with a pink wig at the cancer center or radiation oncology dept. where I go. Hmm, maybe your friend could start a new trend and I bet alot of conversation too!! I am sure she would brighten up others days too!!

Elizabeth - Wonderful news about Carter!!:yay:

Laurie - I am sure your dd will be happy at the private school. Its just the $$$ us parents have to worry about. My ds thinks there is a money tree outside that must be always blooming :)

Well dh just called me from Denmark. He said there is a little snow on the ground there and tomm. he is heading to Sweeden. He was talking to them about health care. He said in Denmark they told him they have to wait about 3 months for treatment of stuff, :scared1:. If health care changes here in the US I am wondering if so many drs. might be swamped in the future they wont take new patients, so I am wondering if I should get my ds into someone now just to be an "established" patient etc.

Its so sunny here today, yipee:yay:. No news about ds yet. Tonight ds18 is getting a pre prom haircut and ds20 is getting one too.

GTAGWTA, Have a great day everyone.

Thank you for your kind words. She was a very special person, a wonderful mother who prepared her son by seeking counseling for him about a year before she passed away. But how can you ever prepare a child or anyone for something so terrible? On Thursday, the day of the Memorial Service, he said to his Dad, "Don't worry Dad. We'll make it through this and Mom will be proud of us." All of his classmates walked into the service dressed in their school uniforms and I could barely hold myself together. I started sending her a card about every 2 weeks probably 18 months ago and she always said when she went to her mailbox and saw my handwriting it brought a smile to her face. On Friday (she passed on Sunday) she was taken in for surgery as her leg broke at the hip and they needed to insert a rod and when she came out of surgery, the last words she said to her Mom were "We are going to have to work on getting you a softer shade of lipstick."

I feel better now that I've written this post. It has been a very difficult week. Thanks for listening. Barbara

What a heartfelt and loving post! I am so sorry for your families loss. Sending hugs your way...:hug:

Your daughter is so beautiful and I hope she has a great time in high school! My boys went to catholic school for years and it was an overall great experience! (except for one mean, mean nun, lol)

Elizabeth..I told my kids about Carter and they were cheering for him last night. They were so happy for him!!! I hope you had a drink last night..or something celebratory!:cool1:

Thank you all for your kind words of consolation. It is a privilege to belong to this group of women who are so upbeat, special, informed and caring.

Barbara

GAGWTA, Ladies!

Maureen, thank you so much for all of your kind words and good wishes! I am sure you will get an acceptance letter at your house VERY SOON! :goodvibes
We went to Macaroni Grill last night for a spur of the moment celebration. I had a Bellini. It was lovely. ;)
I just made a reservation for the new (well, sort of new) Wolfgang Puck restaurant downtown. It is in the top of a tower and it rotates so we can see the whole city. I hope DS loves it. He really enjoys sushi, so I think it will be a hit. I promised myself that if he was accepted we would go there for a celebration. He won't appreciate having to dress up, but I think he will love the experience!

Laurie, I am sorry you guys are still sorting out your school choices. What a pain that hey won't let you register for testing, and that they won't take the test results you already have! :headache: Your DD sounds like a very mature young lady, and I am sure she will thrive no matter which school she attends.

Good morning ladies

Fl Lisa - know you are having a busy week. Hope all is going well.

KJ - I hope you are doing ok with the rads

Lisa (Honu) - Hope things are going well for you pre surgery

Elizabeth - wow, you are going to reunion tower?!! I have never been there but I think dh went there for a business dinner when we lived there. I just got an e mail about them imploding the stadium on 4/11. I hope your celebration is great!! Oh I miss Texas and especially with bluebonnet season .

Laurie - Have you planned the next trip yet. I am looking on line and all they have is yacht club water view, hmm, thats more than we wanted to spend and I dont even care about the view etc. We always do the trip last minute and guess we have to take what is there etc. I need to talk to my dh, but alas he is in Sweeden today and may or may not call.

Well ds18 is sleeping overnight at school tonight. DS 22 is doing some crazy prom thing for college and wont be home till the wee hours so that leaves me and ds20:scared1:. Hmm, he refuses to do the contacts so far. I dont think I will cook tonight as its just us 2. I will ask him about getting chinese maybe. Pray for me. It should be interesting.

GTAGWTA. Have a great day everyone.

GAGWTA, Ladies!

Maryann, yes, Reunion Tower! I could NOT think of the name of it! :rotfl2: The restaurant used to be called Antares, but that closed and the new Wolfgang Puck place opened a year or so ago.

Hello Everyone,

I hope the week has been good to all.

Reunion Towers will be beautiful at night. It's been 25 years since we have been there but my husband and I went there once for drinks with some friends when we lived down there. Even though we left the area more than 20 years ago, we still enjoy a great friendship with that same couple.

Rads are going just fine - halfway through :yay:. Just wish it wasn't such a long drive every day. I have to remind myself that this is hopefully saving my life and what's a little drive compared to that - then it's not so bad.

GAGWTA!

Another sad day here, had to make that hard decision for our dear old Tasha kitty. DD and I took her together this morning. :sad1::sad1: So sad and numb. We're all taking it hard, especially so soon after my father.

Oh wow! I have stayed at the Hyatt at Reuinion twice for conferences and we went to the top of the Tower...it was a scary elevator ride!!!:scared1: The old restaurant was nothing special but if Wolfgang Puck has one there I would get on that dang elevator again!! Sounds like a perfect celebration!

I am headed out on a four night cruise with my daughter. She and her song and dance team are performing on Celebrity cruise so that is going to be really fun! I am bummed because my husband won't be going this time due to his surgery and his brother coming here from Wisconsin. Oh well!

Oh Ann! Im so sorry! My George is there with her, showing her where the best places are to cat nap in the sunbeams. Ive been missing him a lot the last few days. Even called Miss Kitty George.

LMP check for Swan and Dolphin. I had gotten an email about room specials... "Book by March 30th. Rates from $149 available for any day arrivals, from March 18th to May 31st." this is the link

Enjoy the cruise and time with your daughter LookingForward

Ann, I am so very sorry about your kitty. I have found snappy to be such a comfort during the last 10 years. Especially after losing your father recently it would have been nice to continue to have your kitty there for solace.

I feel for you during this time. I am relieved to know you had your DD with you when you had to take this step.

LMP, did you survive last night with your middle son? That young man needs a reality check and soon.

As far as May goes, the only certainty is that we will be in a boardwalk view villa at BWV for a few days around Memorial day. I am still working on the first part of the trip. I am really leaning towards Wyndham bonnet creek, even though I was just there. DD14 did not pick that place since her opinion was tainted by the rainy weather our entire stay there last year. I really enjoyed the place with Mom and Tom on our recent trip, and I sure like the price. I am working with Ken Price on getting the nights booked now. I really like dealing with Ken and his wife. I am trying to hold out for a 3 bedroom in case our son joins us like he did last year. He will be approaching 22, not sure of his plans, but he sure seemed to enjoy being with us last year. It was a throwback to 2002 and 2003 when we rented houses down there and had some irreplaceable family time just in the backyard pool. Forgeddabout the parks. I am so glad we have those memories. Those and our many trips to North Carolina to visit my parents back before my father died in 1998 are some of our best family memories, aside from the many birthday extravaganzas I have orchestrated.

DD's 8th grade graduation is May 13. I want to get to Orlando by May 18. When we return she is off on a youth group trip to San Antonio so we have to add on to the front of our BWV stay, not the end. Also I guess the earlier in May the better crowd wise, before most of schools across the country are out.

But before then, we have a lock in tomorrow night (I am a chaperone, sigh after an all day track meet), an all day spiritual retreat next month, a pool party and dance, a youth legislature trip (she is running for senate president), a honors breakfast and then the graduation ceremony and mass, all in April and May before May 13th!!!!

We need to go shopping for some dresses for her. Oh joy! No mall for me!!

I had my mammogram scheduled today but I am still shell shocked from messing up on the testing registration for the magnet school. I am a basket case. So I have rescheduled for next week. I need to reserve some fun and games for later, right?;)

Edited. . . I just talked to Ken, we got the 2 bedroom and he'll check for the 3 bedroom availability on Sunday. The Wyndham system has online resort availiabilty research capabilities, obviously. He gives a great deal. Best part-his family will be down around the same time so we are going to try and meet. I would like to thank him in person, with some pralines, beads and doubloons, pehaps. I would do crarwish ettoufee, but that might be over the top???

Louisiana strawberries are finally in. I am splurging today. Meatless Fridays. . no problem!!

I went to the observation deck about 20 years ago when my cousin was visiting. I met the chef from Antares about 7 years ago at a charity event and I meant to go sometime, but we just never got around to it. So hopefully we will finally get there for dinner!

The cruise sounds fabulous!! Have fun!! :cool1:

I am sorry, Ann.

Good afternoon ladies :flower1::butterfly:daisy:

Oh yes, spring is in the air!! Hmm, why am I thinking of the Bambi movie?

Ann - so sorry about your kitty. I am glad your dd was with you.

Maureen - Hope you have a great time on the cruise. Sounds like a lot of fun and seeing your dd performing too!

Sha - I got that e mail too, but I was thinking I really wanted the gift card to pay for the dining etc. I am contemplating cashing in dh 200K ff miles and booking through aa vacations. You cant book a room only discount with them either. Its only full price stuff, they dont consider disney discounts, that is why I was thinking the gift card deal and the rooms seem to be limited also aa has their own rooms too I think etc. as we have dealt with them in the past. Confusing and restrictive.

Laurie - you sure will be busy with your dd. Sounds like she has alot on her plate. I guess kids handle multi tasking really well. Wow, my ds doesnt graduate till closer to the end of June. I dont know the date off hand, but I guess I should. He will also be there May 19 for his class trip and thats when dh and I want to go as it cleared from his work meetings etc.

Elizabeth, KJ and Maureen - wow I cant believe you all have been to reunion tower and I have not. Hmm, I should think about that one for the future.

DS 20 was tolerable last night. I actually got him to put the c ontacts in for 2 hours. He was not happy as they were not comfortable. He was a little dsrespectul with his mouth but all and all he was bearable. Sometimes I think I am too hard on him, but then I think, no the other 2 ds never say the things to me that he does and dh says we are just not going to tolerate this anymore etc.

Oh and dh called me and thanks to the impending British Airways strike they had to change his flights and now he is not coming home on sat, but on sunday. I am not happy, needless to say.:sad1: I think he is spending the extra night in London. He might call tomm. I think he is going from Denmark to London today after all his meetings.

GTAGWTA. Have a great week end everyone.

Good morning everyone!:sunny:

NHAnn - Sorry for the loss of your Kitty.

LMP - I'm glad that your weekend with DS20 has been uneventful. You didn't really need any more stress, right?

Laurie - I'm sorry your plans for DD and the magnet school didn't work out. I'm sure she'll be happy at the other school though. I can't believe she gets out of school so early. DS isn't out until June 10th this year. I liked it better when they got out near the end of May.

My niece's wedding yesterday was wonderful. It was an outdoor ceremony and we were blessed with sunny skies and a temperature of 78. I was able to make it through the whole day, even the after party. I was really concerned that I might miss some of it since I hadn't been feeling great most of last week. I guess I saved my energy for the right time!

I didn't have the rads on Friday. That session was mostly about measurements and yet more tattoos. I have the first rads tomorrow at 10 am.

LMP, I hope your DH is either home safely or about to be.

I hope your cruise with your daughter is wonderful, Maureen. Sorry your DH can't join you.

Lisa, how nice that you had the energy to enjoy your niece's wedding yesterday. What a great time of year for a wedding! Hope your first rads goes well tomorrow. Rest up!

I am bushed from the all day track meet and the youth group lock in last night I volunteered to chaperone last night. DD14 is still sleeping, she is the one that actually competed at the meet and danced and played on the inflatables last night, not me, so I can imagine how she feels.

We too had nice weather in the am and the rain held off for the most part until the meet was over. All the youth group stuff was indoors. Gosh I hate the music this age dances to via DJ these days. I did meet some very nice moms of 7th graders last night though, along with hanging out with the 8th grade moms.

I am debating whether to chaperone for youth lesislature Wednesday and Friday. Our house is about 10 minutes from the state capitol. It seems a shame to miss it. I just drank some more chicken soup to revive me. Maybe I will get energy by Wednesday? I would hate to miss DD14's speech since she is running for state senate. I was proud of her for running. Several of the "popular" girls are running for the other positions, they will no doubt garner the votes. DD is running against one of the star jocks of her school, and then will have to compete against whoever is running from the other two schools who are attending on our dates.

I guess I like that she isn't just rolling over. Most of the girls in her little circle are too intimadated by the prissy what we call the "bow" girls. I heard over the weekend about an incident a few years back when one of the prissy girls told one of the girls outside of that group that she could not wear the color bow she had on in her hair as that color was reserved for the their group. The parent of the girl that was warned off was so irate she complained to the school administration and they spoke to the girls, not sure how.

Needless to say, it has only gotten worse. There is such a rift between groups that the popular girls don't even acknowledge the presence of the outsiders and actually will turn their precious little backsides. I witnessed it yesterday at the meet. It was mind-blowing. Another reason I think my DD14 would be better off in the magnet school rather than the all girls Catholic high school.

They may be teaching them theology but to be inclusive, not so very much. I am tempted to talk to the assistant principal too as I have a good rapore with her, but what is the use with one foot out of the door come graduation on May 14?

Sometimes I feel we are spinning our wheels with the topics we cover in the Come Lord Jesus meetings every week. The message is not getting through. Excluding people is a form of bullying.

DH at work as usual, we were supposed to have a workman over yesterday for some repairs that have been needed for several years. The guy had to help his dad work on one of their properties, so he was going to come over today. I just don't have the energy for dealing with someone in my house. I am grumpy and puffy and just plain mean. The dude might go running away into the night!

Right now I am hoping DH doesn't feel the same way.

Hey, the workman came for about an hour and a half and got started. Will come back next week with the mud to fix the ceiling. It is an ongoing affair, apparently (groan).

Laurie - Sorry you're feeling so tired. I remember those all day track meets which finally ended for me last Spring! You were brave to chaperon an all night event on the same day!

I am not at all surprised by the behavior you have been encountering with your DD's peers. I think the kids get worse with each passing year. I sometimes wonder what kind of example the ringleaders of the bad kids have at home. Their parents always seem to be the type that don't think their kids ever do anything wrong. The only positive thing is that most of that behavior is not found on college campuses. Kudos to your DD for not being intimidated by them!

I have been resting all day, but still feel tired. I will probably go to bed early since I know tomorrow will be an energy consuming day.

Good evening ladies

Guess who's back, Yippee:yay:, dh of course. Ds seems to be returning to his old self.

Laurie - wow, you sure were brave to do the all nighter. I would have gone nuts I think or maybe couldnt keep my eyes open!! I give you credit sista. Hmm, are girls always having lots of drama. I dont think boys in general do, and I am sure its sad when its from her school too. I would probably say something after she graduated. I know at the ds old school we even gave parents questionnaires to grade stuff and offer opinions too.

Fl Lisa - glad you had a great time at the wedding and I wish you all the best tomm.

I am seeing the endo tomm. I am hoping the blood tests will show undetectable numbers, hence the cancer is being repressed.

Oh the other prom mom, asked ds if I wanted to come to their school and take pictures. Ds said um no, probably not.

And to add more fuel to our college fire, our neighbor around the corner who has the same last name initial just found out he was accepted and tells ds, oh I dont even want to go to the state univ. O.K. I am guessing ds might hear something this week. I think they are running out of last names :).

Will give a little report on the visit tomm.

GTAGWTA. Blessings to you all always.
