Still having trouble posting. Sick with the flu. I'll try again later.

Thanks for all the good wishes. Everything was fine! :goodvibes BUT - they scared me to death. They called me back in 3 times for more pictures, and then finally for an ultrasound. Thankfully everything looked good. :)

Well, my mom's surgery is going to be the day after I get back from the world. I think I am taking my laptop to the hospital and edit pictures that are LONG overdue. So the 27th is the day. She made an appt today to go and talk to the surgeon for the deep brain stimulator and generator. She is under the impression he wants to put it in her abdomen with the other, and she wants it up like a pacemaker would be (same device, just a different purpose). I think it would be fine in the abdomen, and I am also thinking it gets him out of the other surgeon's way for the mastectomy. I am going to meet her for the appt. a bit a detour from my work schedule, but neccessary. Im using all the distractions I can to not get anxious, and overall, did okay until we got a surgery date. Need her to get her flu shot too.

Having the date does make it "real." I am glad you have the trip to look forward to first.

YEA!!! So happy to hear it. I am thinking about you all. Sorry we have had some sick with the flu. Its so confusing here about what to do regarding the vacines. My pediatrician is adamently against vacinating the kids. I am on the fence.

Anyhow, we are headed to WDW tonight for three days. Can't wait to get away for a little break! I will post when we return. :thumbsup2:cool1::banana:

I have been trolling this thread off and on for a while now.

A little backround: I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in June and had bilateral mastectomy/reconstruction surgery on August 28th. My recovery from the surgery went well and I had amazing support from my family and friends - particularly my husband. He took a week and half off from work and saw to my every need during that time. I had my first chemo last Friday and am still recovering from that. I am scheduled for weekly Herceptin infusions every Friday and my next chemo is scheduled for October 30th.

I just wanted to introduce myself and move on from being a "lurker" so I could join the thread. I find that a lot of what is posted here is helpful - even if it's just good wishes for someone.

Good afternoon ladies

:welcome: out of lurkedom and to the boards Lisa, (wdw4us2) Hmm, can I say FL Lisa to differentiate between the other Lisa, hope that is ok with you. Yes, the ladies here are a great bunch of encouragement and information. If you lurk, you know I have another kind of cancer. Wishing you all the best as you go through chemo

Melissa - sorry to hear about the flu and computer problems

Maureen - hope you have a great trip

Laurie - how was the Come Lord Jesus meeting?

Linda - hope your dd and mom are improving

Sha - have a great trip and thinking of your mom and her upcoming surgery. She is just so blessed to have you

Laura - hope the side effects are bearable for you. So sorry you are going through all of this. Remember, there is LIGHT at the end of the tunnel, and you know what LIGHT I am talking about sista!! Look at the picture I sent you!!

Candy - hoping things are quieting down on the tummy front with the chemo

Cheryl - wow, you have alot of property!!

Well I tried walking without the walker today a little. It was ok until I got a sharp stabbing pain in my stomach. I didnt sleep well either. I dont know why. The digestive problems are all cleared up PTL. Thanks for all the advice. The ds were down right terrible to me last night. I think ds19 mentioned something about we have lives and we cant deal with you being sick or something like that. Hmm, I guess 7 operations is getting to him too. I did mention to him about how he always saw me the least in the hosp, etc. I try not to ask too much of them etc. I will be glad if dh and I get to Disney ourselves. Dh went for his first official on the books meeting for his new dept. yippeee! He also found out his co workers dh had a storke and will be permanently paralized on the one side. So I dont know if she will take off to be with him or hire someone etc. He is much older than her. They dont need the money for sure. I am going to do a seperate little post of my hosp. visit. lol !Ds is using my van tomm. to pick up 100 small pumpkins for a charity event at college.

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

Thanks for the Welcome!

It's fine if you want to refer to me as FL Lisa!:)

Hugs to you. I am sorry that your ds was difficult to you. Sometimes teens can be a bit selfish and they don't understand that life is a rocky road. They have lots of time and youth on their side and they just can't see that life is difficult at times (most of the time!). I am sure he was just acting out. My diagnosis and treatment was very difficult on my kids. They each reacted differently. I hope that you feel better and know that we are always with you in spirit and friendship!

Welcome to our thread...sorry that you have to be here but we are here for you. Each of us has a different story but I too had a most of the treatments you are having (except Herceptin). Let us know how you are doing and if you have any questions. The treatment isn't easy but you will get through it and feel better!

Fl Lisa, welcome from me as well!! Glad you joined us. i lurked way back when too when I was planning our first WDW vacation for all 5 of ou (4 of us went in 1994 before our youngest was born).

Love the nick name by the way, Mary Ann!

share more of your story as you feel comfortable. what kind of reconstruction did you have?

Your husband sounds wonderful, like others' husbands here.

MaryAnn, I do think it is hard for teens to deal with serious sickness in a parent. I know how you feel though. My youngest was 8 when I was diagnosed and she was much more caring than my at the time 14 year old.

They just don't want anything to interfere with their lives. At that age many are very self-centered.

I find her at 19 to be much more compassionate but she could still improve for sure.

I just miss both my older so when they are away at college.
This has been a busy semester for them both. At this rate it may be Thanksgiving before I see them again. Thank goodness for cell phones.

No Come Lord Jesus meeting yesterday as the middle schoolers had the day off for parent teacher conferences. I did go to the open house for the girls' Catholic high school with DD13. That is where she wants to go right now. she has ben on the fence a little between that school and the public magnet school, but I think seeing the campus tonight may have changed her mind.

Maureen, have fun at WDW. Hope the weather is crisp and cool for you. It is supposed to be a little cooler this weekend here, I just hope it dries out.

GAGWTA!

wdw4us2....welcome to the thread, and out of lurking! I was in your place about 3 years ago, so as you can see, there is life on the other side! Feel free to ask anything, the ladies on this thread are a pretty open book. I had mast, chemo, radiation & currently on tamoxifen - no reconstruction or herceptin. Nice to meet you! :wave2:

Maureen...have a great trip! pixiedust:

LMP....sorry your DS is upsetting you. Maybe he just hasn't figured it out yet that *normal* at your house just isn't what it used to be. My youngest who was 17 at the time, didn't really want to deal with it.....maybe keeping it from getting too real?

TruBlu....so happy that everything checked out fine! :yay: I went today for mine, and they did have to do one shot over, but nothing as involved as yours.

Merry....good to see you! I hope you and your computer are feeling better soon! :flower3:

Sha...good wishes going out for your mom!

I'm really excited today.....I have been the biggest Garth Brooks fan since, I dunno, forever! And today it was announced that he will be coming out of retirement to do a limited run of shows in LasVegas. :rockband: Tickets will be next to impossible I'm sure, but I'm sure gonna try! They go on sale oct 24, so hopefully, I'll get lucky! A trip to Vegas isn't really in the budget right now, but gosh darn it, sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do! :thumbsup2

:goodvibes GAGWTA!!!!:goodvibes

Like your banner, Cheryl!!

I saw on the news Garth is coming out of retirement. Good for him, he is wonderful!

Hope you get your tickets!

GAGWTA

I like your banner and your avatar, Cheryl. I hope you can get tickets!! pixiedust: This summer I was on a mission for Paul McCartney tickets, and I wound up doing pretty well.

TruBlu, Merry, Laura, thanks for checking in. Glad everything worked out, TruBlu.

Laurie, what is a Come to Jesus meeting? Is your DD at public middle school right now? Is she not happy there?

LMP, did you try the senna (senakot) tabs? If not, give them a whirl. They'll keep you regular.

Maureen, I hope you're having a wonderful trip. :wizard: I'm jealous of you guys who live in FL.

Welcome, Lisa. Glad you joined in. :grouphug:

Sha, how is your mother doing?

Well the Feng Shui class was a lot of fun and gave us some really good ideas for our house. Clutter is huge. One really good thing we got in class was a list of criteria to use when deciding what to keep and what to pitch. Still, it's not easy making those decisions, so I guess it's a process. But I'm on a mission. Today I'm working in DD's room (you ought to see it right now, she pulled apart her whole closet last night and the entire contents are scattered about the room :faint: ) - I'm sorting and tossing, and DH is going to re-do the closet (opening it up, new doors, modernizing inside :goodvibes ). That ought to help the whole upstairs. Next is my room. We're thinking we may as well begin what we want to do in the bedrooms while we're waiting for the plans and permits to be finalized for building our room addition. Wish me luck.

DD and Mom are both doing better. :)
