I am confused what the letter was. When I had my first diagnostic mammogram, it was a BiRad Category 4. It is low level of suspicion I think.

Was the letter related to the mammogram or the biopsy? the word "suspected" makes me think mammogram.
Mammograms don't determine grade or stage. The stage comes from the biopsy but is further defined only when and if there is a lymph node dissection afterwards. The grade I think also comes from the biopsy, but the biopsy results can not be conclusive either if the sampled areas is not indicative of the full extent of the tumor (not clear margins).

My sister had a BiRad 4 as well and had no malignancy found with the surgical biopsy. I think a BiRad 3 is normal. I am not sure what 5 is.

I am sorry, I am sure I am confusing here, you need to talk with the doctor.

I think I did a lot of googling at the time to figure it out. I think reading mammograms is one big grey area with different docs coming up with different levels. Truly, the biopsy is the definitive test.

When do you expect those results?

I had had Brac there earlier.... but that was because I couldnt remember and had heard a Brac analysis commercial earlier. It was "BiRad" Category 5. This was after the Mammogram and US... and before the US guided Biopsy that this letter was written to her MD. Just have to wait and see I guess.

Thank you. I am following your posts and also praying for those who need it. :grouphug:

They think my DD's gut is infected with EColi. We aren't sure where she got it, but have a suspicion it might have come from a hamburger she ate the weekend before last. She is in severe pain. It is heartwrenching to hear her screams. We are watching for any problems to her kidneys, which can come on suddenly with this type of infection. I never expected anything like this to happen this week. She came home sick from school on Monday and she progressed quickly from there. Ironic given my posts on Monday - for some reason I couldn't stop crying when I thought of my kids on Monday. I think it must have been one of those strange premonitions that I sometimes get. Please pray that her pain lessens and that her kidneys and other sytems aren't affected. Thank you. Will keep you updated. :worried:

Saying prayers now.... and including you too! :grouphug::grouphug:

Thanks Linda, for filling in the details. I am praying my heart out for her at this moment, that her strong young body fights it off before any damage is done. That the infection leaves as quickly as it progressed since Monday afternoon.

It is eerie in the context with the tears from your Monday post.

I am with Sha, you yourself need our prayers as well.

Hopefully no one else ate the same burger?

Keep us updated too on your mom, Sha. How are your mother's spirits?

LMP, how are yur feeling dear?

Candy, that doc sounds scary!!

Elizabeth, your son's schedule sounds scary!! How ever do you manage it?

Linda, thinking of you and your family! I hope DD's infection is under control soon, and that her organs are not damaged!! I am so sorry she is in pain. It is horrible to see our children hurting.

My DD is in the hospital, quite sick. Please keep her in your prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear about your DD. She will certainly be in my prayers and so will all of you. If you can, please keep us updated on her condition. I hope she will be home very soon. Hugs, Barb

Laurie, my DS has a cake walk schedule compared to most of his friends! :rotfl2: Today was just weird because he had 3 things going on and could only go to one. Most days he only has 2 things going on - Band and Drama. Those days he goes to one thing for part of the afternoon, then he switches to the other thing. The Band director and the Drama teacher know they have to share him. ;)

By mid-November his main focus will be the play because his community theater session will end and the Band won't be performing at football games anymore. :)

I hesitate to post, but I will anyway.

Some good news about my mom. She has decided I think after a year to go ahead and have the saline implant exchanged to a silicone one in her reconstructed breast and have the unaffected side lifted at the same time. Not sure when. She wanted to avoid further surgery but it has just gotten too uncomfortable. Medicare and her Blue Cross supplemental will not cover the lift. The scheduler gave her how much it would cost without insurance, several thousand for the physician's fee. After she heard my mom's disappointment about non coverage, she went and talked to the doc (happens to be my plastic surgeon as well, if you recall). He is going to do it gratis.

What a great doc.

I kidded her that we are on the family plan so she is covered.

You know I have run into many docs that have wonderful hearts like this over the years. Candy, you need to find one of those to work for.

Linda, praying your daughter's doctors' hands are guided by the Holy Spirit tonight.

Thank you all. I had a little cry fest in the hospital lobby last night when I realized the enormity of it. It didn't help that I was working off about two hours of sleep since Sunday. I also feel pretty helpless in that I can't take her pain away or make her better. But she is in good hands and our friends and family have been amazing, as usual. A good friend of ours picked DS up after school today and drove him the hour into the hospital, and also picked us up dinner on the way as well as flowers for DD. I bought her a stuffed dog last night because at one point she was screaming that she wanted to get home to see Liesl :sad1: so I thought that would be the next best thing (she named it Angel and he's been sitting on her shoulder). She is getting morphine for pain so Angel and I are keeping a close eye on her.

My thoughts and prayers continue to follow you, Linda.

Hope she is turning the corner.

Linda - praying for your dd. Praying the infection will clear up quickly and there will be no bad side effects with the kidneys. I am so sorry she is going through this and you as a mom have to see her like this. I am sure it goes to the very core of your heart.

Candy - will pray for your job situtation

Well I am off to the hosp. Have to be there at 9, The surgery is at 11 and I am his first patient, yippee!! Just have to wait for the surgeon ahead of him to be done in the or romm. Keep praying!!

GTAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

Maryann, wow, this day came quick. I had forgotten today was your surgery date.

Good luck, dear. You also are in my prayers and thoughts today. I am glad you are scheduled early.

Please let us know when you can how you are. Is it possible your DH could post?
I sure hope this surgery brings you much needed relief. You need to heal to get ready for your December trip!!!

Hope all went well LMP! Prayers and pixie dust

Found this on google.... but will still just wait for results... "The mammogram is classified according to 5 categories. Category 1 being negative - nothing to comment on, routine screening. To 5 which is highly suggestive of malignancy - very high probablility of malignancy. Appropriate action should be taken. A category 4 is a suspicious looking abnormality, not characteristic but has a reasonable probability of malignancy. Biopsy should be considered."

it's always in God's hands anyways ;)

GAGWTA everyone!

Pea-N-Me, here's good thougths for your daughter.

LMP, hugs and good thoughts for a good surgery and a good outcome.

I really need some magic and some hope right now. The unilateral adrenalectomy is not an option. I called on a study of a medication, but it's a stop gap measure much like the keto I'm on now, so it's not much help. Currently there's no visible tumor to radiate so I would have to radiate the gland and risk permanent loss of pituitary function. The bilateral adrenalectomy currently seems to be the best option, but endo won't sign off on it. So basically, I'm stuck. I can't stop crying. I literally feel like I have no hope anymore.

We got the test results today. It is positive for cancer. Not sure what kind or anything at the moment. I have no idea if it would be anywhere else..... (things running though my head). MDs have been notified, so waiting for calls to come back to set up appt. We are still going to WDW this weekend. Will keep you all posted.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers :grouphug:

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. The waiting now for appointments is hard but usually they move along quite quickly once a plan is in place. So glad you are still going to WDW this weekend.

You are both in my thoughts and prayers. Barbara

I hope the surgery went well LMP and you are resting comfortably tonight.

Honugirl - I am sorry for all you are going through at this time but hang in there - there are miracles that happen all the time when we least expect them.

Linda - I know you are aware that I am thinking of all of you tonight.

Hi Laurie - I hope everything is going well and you aren't working too many hours.

Good thoughts to all of you and wishing you a nice weekend. Barbara

Sha, sorry to hear about the test results. Have a great time at WDW this weekend!

Thanks annrae! Here's to hoping for a miracle, but I'd just settle for a way to be healthy again.
