Thank you for all of your advice. I am in Suffolk. I will definitely look into some of the groups you mentioned.

Christine

finalize plans? Not for the trip at WDW. No dining made. Just doing the pirate league for K. Fixing breakfast in the room each morning and winging it for meals. Maybe at ESPN on Saturday for football but can't make any ressie there.

Got to get back to the paperwork. Its never ending lately.

hi ladies. Well I went to start my radiation yesteday, but mentioned that at the end of my scar where there was always a bump, it was growing since I finished chemo. They did a biopsy instead, and got the dreaded call today. I have to go for surgery again asap, within the next few days, and then radiation after, then we see what happens. Went through all that suffering with the chemo and it suppressed it while I was on it, but obviously did not kill off the cancer cells. I'm so scared and depressed. The only thing that takes a bit of my fear away, is that my son is on the other side and will be there for me if it comes to that. My poor family, I would do anything to take the pain away from them.

I'm so sorry you are facing this setback. I know it must seem overwhelming right now. Hopefully you will know quickly what you are dealing with and how they will be treating it. Hang in there.

thankyou CherylDan....I know what a hard time you have had, and you still come here to encourage others. I want to have a head to toe MRI done, and whatever else they have available.

Christine, as everyone has said, welcome to the thread. It's a great place to hang out for support as we all share our ups and downs with each other. It's really good news that you don't have any positive nodes. I'm sure your head is probably spinning with information by now. I would just suggest that you try not to read too much too soon, at least not until you know exactly what your treatment plan will be. Easier said than done, I know.

MarryAnn, sorry to hear that your DH might be delayed. I'm sure it must be stressful. Hopefully you will not be hit too hard by the storm.

Linda, sounds like you have your hands full...stay safe in the storm!

Candy, enjoy the weekend......sounds like you will have a great time.

Lisa, how are you feeling?

Thanks to everyone for sharing in my good news! I'v been quite busy the past few days trying to get that trip planned. It wasn't working out for the actual date of our anniversary, so what the heck, after 30 years I figured the same month would be just fine! So we ended up with a quick long weekend trip, staying at Yacht Club. I'm really excited about that, never stayed there before. Couldn't get reservations at any of the food and wine events we wanted, but it's fine....I'm sure we will be busy enough just hitting the food stands.

GAGWTA!!!!:goodvibes

smiley/Janet -, so sorry to hear you have hit a bump in the road and that you have to deal with more surgery.

My thoughts and prayers are with you sista. You have been through so much lately too. Hang in there sista.

I know your ds:littleangel: is watching over you too.

Smiley... thinking about you and pray all goes well.

For those in the path of the storm, please stay safe and try to be patient. Having been through a couple that (didn't do damage) had power outages, you may want some books and boardgames, a lot of patience, book light and flashlights with batteries, and a corded phone (wireless phones, laptops dont do too well without power). Cell phones eventually die if you don't have battery backup. I have a power cord adapter for my car that I used to charge up when we were down but sometimes the towers were offline though.

Smilie, I am sorry you are back on the roller coaster so to speak. How very like you to lament the pain your family is going through.

You are one special lady.

Cheryl, I wish your weekend was the same as min, during the RFTC. It would be nice to see you.

Linda, MaryAnn, all of you near the coast, please stay safe. Do the local authorities put up info about readiness? We have a lot of that type of prep info here.

I can try and post to links later if it would be helpful when I get to work.

I put in a supply of canned food, lots of drinking water, batteries, extra OTC meds, dog food back in May when they advised it due to the river being so high.

Make sure your cars are gassed up. We also have a number of large gas containers mostly to keep our generator going. Make sure your relatives know what your plans are as far as leaving if that is necessary.

Also the obvious things about making sure you a good supply of your prescriptions. We don't board up the windows here but did when we lived in new Orleans. Here it is more about the trees.

I would also make sure you have important papers readily accessible to you in water tight container, and anything that is irreplaceable the same (pictures, mementos). Make sure you have a battery operated radio.

The outer banks in NC have been evacuated, what about further north along the coast? Any news yet? If the storm weakers after it hits NC, all to the good but they are known to bounce back into the warm waters and pick up steam. Keep a close watch.

Hope everyone does well. Please be sure and post a quick note after the storm here so we know everyone is ok.

Does anyone have to go to work as essential personnel? That happens a lot down here, especially with medical folks. What about you, Linda?

It sounds like you guys are looking at a relative of our Katrina storm. The next 2-3 weeks is the peak hurricane time.

Please stay well.

Cheryl, I wish your weekend was the same as min, during the RFTC. It would be nice to see you.

.

I'll be there the 21st-25th...how about you? It would be great if the dates work out! And Sha, too......I remember you saying you'd be there sometime in Oct. And MarryAnn? Anyone else I'm forgetting at the moment?

Smiley

I am heading out tonight to pick up some extra water, gas, and no-cook food. We do have a propane stove in the guesthouse if we decide that we are in the middle of an extended power outage. We'll move over there if necessary - it also has the outhouse so water for toilet flushing isn't an issue. And if we get nearly as much rain as they are talking about, my brook will be rolling right along and I'll be able to fill buckets if necessary.

We have made sure that the radio works and we will make sure the cell phones are fully charged so we can text if necessary. I am hoping that Irene weakens enough so that by the time she gets to NH, it will be just a lot of rain.

Anyone in her more direct path, stay safe! And get prepared.

smiley - Hang in there. As one who has been on the roller coaster for over two years, I can understand what you're going through. Try to keep a positive attitude until you find out exactly what you are dealing with. How like you to be concerned about your family more than yourself. I never want to tell them when I get bad news, they take it so much worse than I do.

Cheryl - Enjoy F&W. Even if you can't go to the events, you'll still have a good time. I'm sure you'll like YC, it's a beautiful resort. We will be at BC in two weeks - I can't wait!

Sha - Still counting down the days?

MaryAnn - Sorry your hubby might be away longer than you expected.

To those of you in the projected path of the hurricane - I have a suggestion to add to your preparations. Make sure you have plenty of cash. When Frances & Jeanne hit us in 2004, we were without power for 23 days as was a lot of our area. Even when stores and gas stations had back up power, they had no computers or registers that would work so cash was the only way to pay for things.

I was finally able to swim today for the first time in a week. Spent most of yesterday cleaning the pool as the wind was bad here all day. Had my labs done today - hemoglobin in still low, but they're holding off on a transfusion for now. I had a stronger Prokrit shot today which should bring my levels back up before the next chemo.

Real Grumpy - I just wanted to say welcome to the survivors club - the club no one wants to join. It is tough to deal with all the decisions to be made and accepting the reality that you have cancer.

I don't have breast cancer, I have bladder cancer but these ladies let me join in the thread anyhow. Best wishes to you!

Good afternoon ladies

Lisa - I agree with you about the cash. They actually said that on tv. so we are prepared for that part of it. Glad you got to swim.

Cheryl - have you been able to get any adr's? I am sure with the festival it will be busy. The YC was our favorite, now I am leaning a little to the Beach Club for some strange reason. If you go to the Beach club and are at the front desk, one of the cast memebers Teena, is a breast cancer survivor. I dont know if she is actually done with treatment yet. She hangs on at the BC/YC thread on the resort board.

smiley - have your gotten a surgery date yet? Sending you all my best.

Well ds took me grocery shopping today. Can you say zoo! No wAter, no flashlights, hardly any canned foood etc. Ds went to home depot and got some batteries, sold out of water there too. I am just going to fill a jug with some. We are right in the path. Our local high school is an evacuation place for people in the low lying area, which Praise God we are on higher ground, more inland. So we have 2 flashilights and a candle at present I think. I will charge the cell phones etc. Told the ds to get gas etc.

I called that eye specialist to make an appt. They gave me a date of Oct. 5th. I said, wow, didnt know I had to wait that long etc. So she says hold on etc. Comes back and says Sept. 13th. Well that is a ;) Godwink for sure because that would have been my dads b day. My eye is really bothering me so I will be happy to get this over and done with. Now dh just has to be here. They said its at least about 2 hours. Oh what

GTAGWTA

Maryann, stay safe during this storm! You are very close to the worst area. Usually it is the folks in the south that get hit, for some reason it is our turn here in the northeast!

Sorry to hear that you weren't able to get supplies. I also loved the idea about the cash and will be visiting the ATM when we head out for dinner tonight. And picking up food that doesn't need cooking. Once the rain stops that won't be an issue even if we lose power since we can cook on the gas grill or the open fire. I am hoping to be able to buy ice tomorrow.

Fill the bathtubs with water for washing and flushing toilets if necessary. That is what we will be doing. Drinking water is in jugs. We also are lucky enough to be able to get water from the river and our brook. Don't know that I would drink it without treating it but it will be fine for washing up or flushing.

Yes, everyone stay safe and keep us updated as you can. understand that where the priorities are though.

Cheryl I am there the weekend of the 21st for my HS reunion. Not sure if R. will be there too. Haven't discussed it yet. I need to find out if he was wanting to do the walk at the beginning of October because he has K. So it would be a one or the other type trip I guess. We will be able to meet up. I actually have vacation that week following it. No definite plans on the rest of it.

No Lisa... Im not counting down the last 7 days before my weekend :rotfl::rotfl:

Well here is my little update so far. I check on dh flight on sat. I see that it is not listed on the website.

I go to flyer talk. See that aa is cancelling all flights so I think his is one of them possibly, probably since I cant find it, its poof!!

So I think dh will be spending a nice week end in Chicago with no clean clothes. Hope he can get a rent a car and hotel before the good stuff is gone. Worse will be the hassle of the govt. paying for it as it was not pre approved etc. Hmm, I hope Mother Nature and an Act Of God qualifies for reimbursement:).

From what I read the earliest he will get home is Monday!! and that is even if he is not doing extra work in China.

Sounds like a real fun week end here. At least ds19 has his transfer orientation tomm.

I also always freeze water in large plastic containers and leave them in the freezzer.

You can never have too much ice:thumbsup2

When it is near 100 degrees and no a/c for a few days, not good. That is when you need extra, extra water.

Praying for all of you up there. I am betting texting will be the way to communicate, uses less battery power, and more likely to get through over cell phone calls.

All the cell lines were totally overloaded here after the jurricane, but texts did get through.

That is when I was sold on texting.

Don't know if this applies to anyone on this thread, but they tell us down here if the water starts rising and you have to go into the attic, bring your ax with you in the attic so you can get out in the worst case sceanio.

I just got a text from my brother in Manhattan, some of his friends had to evacuate from lower Manhattan and they are staying with him. I bet there is a lot of that going on.

MaryAnn I hope you get to talk to your DH before the storm so you know his ETA and whereabouts.

Patsom, you sound well fixed.

We used to fill the tubs too for flushing. Never had to use it though.

Patsmom, were you able to get supplies up there?
