Directway Internet Service?

I would like to know about Directway internet. (I think it is actually HughesNet now) Does anyone have this?? Do you like it? Is it worth the price?

I live in the middle of nowhere and this is my only option other than dial-up. I have dial-up now, and my connect speed is 26,400 kbps. It is so slow.

I would love to hear opinions.

I have it.. Have had it for about 4-5 years.... Hate it. Really really HATE it.
I have no other option right now either. While it is faster than dial up, it is the must frustrating thing I have ever had to deal with! I have had more down time with this provider than anything else I have ever had!! When there is a cloud in the sky, it goes out. When it rains, it goes out. When it is CLEAR, it goes out.
It is TERRIBLE.

I would check every OTHER option (there are other wireless things you might be able to find like speed net). Hate to sound discouraging, but it is awful.
EXPENSIVE too... sigh.

I've never known anyone to use Directway. Remember, even if you do get a higher download speed when the sky is clear, your uploads are still over your dialup connection.

You also may be able to use Wimax. Again, while not a perfect solution, it may work. You should check here: http://www.bbwexchange.com/wisps/alabama-wisps.asp

I had it several years ago. Maybe it has improved since then, but it the worst Internet service I ever had! I hate to say it, but dial-up was better because the dial-up was more reliable and less frustrating. My service would go out all of the time. It wasn't worth the money and it was so slow. The worst part was that it was the most expensive Internet connection I ever had.
Then when I would call the help line, I would only get more frustrated. It was like the help line from ****. Maybe it is better now.

Help line from **** Yep. that's been my experience too. round and round and round. I had the worse luck with direcway. And when I called to try and get my transponder changed to a different one, I had to practically threaten them..... It is faster than dial up, but because it is less reliable, it is worse than dial up. sigh. Our phone service is horrid here too, so we are between a rock and hard place

Thanks for the reviews, everyone. Not what I was hoping for but I appreciate it. I think it is too expensive even if it is good. I am just so tired of dial-up. I guess I will just have to wait. Bellsouth has been telling us for 2 years that they are working on getting it to this area. Thanks again.

I definately feel your pain! You're ahead of us though. Bellsouth can't even tell us if they'll ever get dsl out here. Their phone service here is pretty bad, and expensive, to.

We have Frontier as our phone provider. We are out in the sticks, with only 6 houses on our line. Our line is ancient. There are no plans to replace our line any time soon. It goes out ALL the time..... So dial up sucks as well.
I keep getting advertisements to sign up to their 'high speed' internet. I call, they say they will sign me up, I give all my info and then two days later, I get the call that says "not available in your area yet". this has been going on for about 2 years.... I don't think it will EVER be available here due to where we live. sigh.

I wish I had a clear view of one of the other towers that offers wireless. I would dump direcway in a heartbeat!
