Directv vs Dish...any input?

I have had directv for about 16 years now, but trying to save some money if i can. we pay about $175/month for it, granted we have 4 HD DVR's, the best package we can get, Network affiliates, protection plan for 5.99, etc. we do watch the movie channels a lot. any savings moving to dish, or will it all work out the same? we dont watch sports, but we get them in our package, if we downgrade, we lose the movie channels, so it would cost the same to add those back in.

Another option is to get a Roku Box, get a Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime membership. We also have Netflix, the tota for all three work out cheaper than any cable or satellite in our area and give us more choices. We also have a regular TV antenna for local channels. Since they are all digital now, the quality is actually better than many cable connections. The nice part about Amazon Prime is if a more or show isn't available for free streaming, you can either buy or rent it right from the Roku box.

For Hulu's streaming, most shows that are available on Hulu are available the day after they air when you have Hulu Plus.

We've been pricing out both and aren't seeing much of a price difference. And in our area, DirectTV is more reliable so we will stick with it.

Agreed, we had Dish many years ago, and we did not have good experiences with customer service, and our signal went out in even the slightest of rain/snow. We have had Direct now for several years, and I like it much better.

We went from Directv to Dish...being lured in by free HD programming.

We kept Dish until it was within a $200 window where Directv would buy out the contract and we went back to Directv.
