This is the route we take, straight on the 528, did the route from Downtown Disney to the parking we used last trip, its a massive parking lot, maybe 1,000 cars but there were only about 10 cars in there when we arrived 20 mins to launch. Its about a 6-7 min walk to Space view park.
Now heres a close up of Titusville, you can see the massive car park where B is, Space View Park is on Broad St, If you are there in plenty of time as we were the 1st time you can park a lot nearer but arriving last minute it was a great option.
I would plan to be there about 1 hour to launch, plenty of stalls to look at, monuments, plaques to read etc.

The mission will be the 39th and final flight of Discovery

This is going to be a busy day as allot of us Central Floridians will be there especially since it is the last flight for this shuttle.

4:40pm Launch at the latest I would be there around 3:30pm but you may want to watch some news casts when your in Florida to see how they are speculating the crowds.

You could also plan the day at KSC (Kennedy Space Center).

thanks wayne!
those directions are brilliant,thank you!

klass,i will definately keep an eye,on the news casts,as i know, they can cancel the launch.i am praying luck,is on our side,as i would love my grandaughter,to experience this.

thanks again

LOL Kiera's Nana, If the shuttle launch goes ahead on 1st Novemeber it looks as if there will be at least 2 Kira/Kiera's watching in Florida :goodvibes

Now my dilema is if we spend the day on Cocoa Beach whether or not it's worth driving up to Titusville for the actual launch or whether to stay there on beach and watch it :confused3 Does anyone know how good a view you get at Cocoa Beach compared to actually being in Titusville?

We went to watch the launch in May and it took us over 4 hours to drive to Titusville, due to sheer volume of traffic. The car parks that Wayne mentions were almost full when we got there -and that was still over an hour and a half before the launch. There were people everywhere! Some had been camping out to get prime viewing sites.

As there are very few planned launches remaining, the crowds to see them are likely to get bigger, I think.

I would give yourselves plenty of time.

The queues to get back were horrendous too, as everyone was trying to get away at the same time. We hung around Titusville for quite a while to let the worst of the crowds go, but it still took over 2 hours to get back.

thanks for that info!
we will definately leave in plenty of time, because as you say,the crowds, may be bigger.

Go watch it from Cocoa Beach or New Smyrna Beach - that way it's part of a great day on the beach so you can get there early and leave late to avoid traffic. Standing in the surf with a cold beer watching a shuttle - fab!

See, that's what I was thinking of doing but wasn't sure how good a view we would get and whether it would be better to drive up to Titusville from the beach to actually watch the launch? Have you watched it from these beaches yourself?
