Could someone give me directions from Savannah to HH. How long would it take?? TIA :sunny:

It's a pretty easy drive, less than an hour I believe. There may be one short cut I am not aware of but the easiest way is I-95. Look it up on Mapquest.com and it'll be easy to find.

Hop on the I-95 north. Cross the border to SC and take exit #8. Turn right. This puts you on Hwy. 278 which takes you directly onto the island. DVC is located at Shelter Cove on the right side of the road, across from Palmetto Dunes on the left side of the hwy. Takes about an hour depending on traffic. Have fun! :sunny:

The interior route is much faster (about 40-45 minutes portal to portal on a typical day) and not hard to figure out. I will try to sit down with my map and post those directions as well. You go through Bluffton and then hook up with Route 17 near Savannah as I recall.

I make that drive to HH from Savannah all the time. I usually don't use the expressway but go the other way on Highway 17, I believe it is. I'm terrible with street names, but somehow I don't think make a right at the blinking light are the directions you're looking for. I will say several things about the interior route should you get directions and decide to take it. From the Savannah Bridge to DVC HHI is about 45 to an hour depending on traffic. The route is in one of those areas that presently has a lot of construction of new homes so sometimes that can slow you down and sometimes that can freak you out because construction guys can drive like crazies. Also, they do this thing I hate where the road you take actually has a couple of names that switch off and the names for the turns can be misleading. Lastly, as I said I take that route all the time for work so for what it's worth I do drive it, but I'll warn you that that area of the road is on the list for one of the top five, or ten I can't remember, most dangerous roads in the United States. Basically what I'm saying is if you were my best friend and we were meeting up there, I would just tell you take the expressway. It is a little bit longer, but the chances of you getting turned around are way, way less.

Having said ALL of that, have a super great trip. I love HHI resort. I think it's really pretty. I hope you have great weather. Lately, it's been sporatic. If you want to do some shopping or the weather is bad and you want to go to the movies, check out the new Sea Turtle area in Bluffton. It's really cute. All the stores aren't in yet but the ones that are are nice and the movie theater is great!

Wonderful trip! :goodvibes

stenogoddess--love your picture, BTW. I'm pretty sure the portion of 17 that made the worst road (highest death toll) list is the section between HH and Charleston.

I usually take the 95 when coming from the airport, but agree that the interior route is faster. Word of warning though: don't speed through Bluffton! :sunny:

I would have to agree that if you are in Savannah proper, make your way to US 17, then follow it (and plenty of signs) to SC170 into Bluffton and 278 and then onto HHI. You'll cross a really beautiful suspension bridge just outside of Savannah and then pass some really seedy establishments, but otherwise it's a faster (and far more scenic) drive than taking 16W back out to 95N

Regards and enjoy

AAAAAMEEEEEENNNN!

Never Never Never speed through Bluffton.

The distance from downtown Savannah to Disney is 40 miles. You won't make it in 45 minutes since you can't average 60mph due to the roads, bridge, numerous traffic lights, and traffic. Plan on at least an hour.

This route, which is the absolute shortest:
Take 17 to 170A
Take 170A to 46 (toward Pritchardville)
Follow 46 (through Bluffton) to 278
Follow 278 to HH

If you decide to take the interstate, from downtown Savannah, it's 65 miles to Disney. Approximately half of that is interstate, and the remaining part is US278. You'll still hit traffic on 278, and a number of traffic lights. I'd guess about 1-1/2 hours if you went this route.
