Direct-to-Room Service and luggage carts

How do you go about getting one or more luggage carts if you want to use the Direct-to-Room service? (I ask because we once arrived at Universal in the wee hours of the morning and wound up getting our own cart that stayed in our room the entire time. When we brought it down fully loaded as we were leaving, the gentleman at luggage services looked like he was about to have a heart attack and explained that if his boss were there he could be fired due to liability concerns! We had no idea we had done anything wrong and certainly don’t want to cause anyone any trouble at Disney.)

Direct-to-Room really just means you don't have to stop at the front desk to find out your room number. You can still use Bell Services or Luggage Assistance to transport your luggage to your room. I've read varying reports lately as to whether you'll be allowed to use a luggage cart by yourself or not. In any case, if you are allowed to use a luggage cart to transport your luggage to your room by yourself, please either bring it back to the entrance or at minimum put it outside your door and allow hotel staff to pick it up! There are not enough luggage carts for guests to keep them in their rooms during their entire stay, so it's pretty inconsiderate to do so.

I get that. The only reason we brought it into our room was because of how narrow the hallways were. By the time we got settled (in the wee hours of the morning after a 6-hour drive), we were just plain too tired to bring it back down to the lobby. We tucked it away into a corner of the room that seemed almost meant for it, assuming that housekeeping would get it the next day, and then we forgot about it. But it turned out that in fact, we were never supposed to have had our hands on a cart in the first place. (We didn’t know! Nobody offered to bring us one when we checked in, so when we saw one, we just grabbed it and used it. We figured everybody had seen us on our way in since we were the only non-employees in sight at the time.)

Ah, understood. We have rarely seen luggage carts available for the taking at the Disney resorts we’ve stayed at. They’re usually under the control of Bell Services staff who are happy to help (for a tip, of course).
