Direct/resale restrictions and points transfer

Hello everyone,
This is my first post in a very long time, and I apologize if I should have posted in the Rent/Transfer forum.

Regarding the resale restrictions - resale points can either be used at only original resorts (are these called legacy resorts?) or Riviera but not both - could a legacy resale member and a Riviera resale member exchange/transfer points with one another? Is that a thing?

You can either transfer points in or out once per UY. You cannot do both. So, the only way for two members to "exchange" points would be for one member to transfer their current UY's points and the other member to transfer their next UY's.

It could happen as Marionnette describes.

But probably a lot more common for the legacy owner to rent their points for cash and pay cash to rent Riviera and the Riviera owner to rent their points for cash and rent a stay at one of the L14 resorts for cash. Some of the L14 owners may not feel like their points would/should trade 1 to 1 for Riviera...so it can get more complicated.

There are more categories of DVC than this. Grandfathered resale could also be used at future resorts. Riviera resale can only be used at Riviera. Future resort resale might work at none of the above.

You could transfer points to another DVC account and those points are still the same points with the same restrictions they had before. They don't change just because they're in another account. But it would probably just be easier to rent/trade/pay for a reservation. Or stay at Riviera cash.

I read that some people who had restricted memberships,.,no points available for RIV…had trouble using transferred points which are grandfathered for use at RIV as their membership couldn’t book it.

Now, I think that if you get actual RIV points, you should be fine, but as mentioned, you would have to do it in different UYs.
