My home base is North East PA (AVP) but I'd travel to PHL for a direct flight under the right circumstances. Any ideas as to which airports in this corridor have directs to MCO? I'm not particular as to the carrier as long as they don't have an unusual number of delays and glitches.

Thanks,

Bill From PA

We're in NorthEastern PA and we drove down to Philly and flew with AirTran. They have great rates, we got our tickets for 49.00 each way.

The whole process was very smooth, plane left and landed ahead of schedule both flights. The staff was friendly, planes clean and we've already booked another 49.00 fllight with them for this upcoming May.

I emailed JetBlue and practically begged them to come and fly out of AVP but until they or another airline takes over the direct route we'll just keep driving down to PHL instead.

Hi Bill,

We are from the Hazleton area and and I have done alot of research for direct flights (I refuse to do a layover with two children  ). US Airways is the main airline with nonstop flights out of PHL. I'm not sure how you feel about them, but I will be waiting to buy anymore tickets until they are out of bankruptcy. Have you thought about driving to Newark? It is about the same drive time for us as Philadelphia. I know that Continental has nonstop flights out of Newark. We are thinking of using them next. We have not flown with them before, but they seem competitive with the price. I'm not sure about their record for delays and such though. As palmtreegirl stated, AirTran is another option out of PHL. I don't know much about them though, I perfer to fly with the bigger carriers. My DS flew with them once and didn't have any problems. :D

Just wanted to say "Welcome Back!" I'm sorry to see your vacation is over but glad to see you're home safely. Did you get over to POR to see Bob Jackson? How was your trip? Have you posted a Trip Report? Anyway, you probably know we are flying down Saturday on AirTran from Philly (direct to MCO) and got our flights for a total of $233 (2 adults). The tickets were less than $46 eachway/person plus some taxes and stuff. Philly would probably be about a 3 hour drive for you so you might want to consider one of the park, sleep and fly packages. It looks like you probably don't have to worry about it for a while, though. Hope you had a great trip.

i fly out of philly and was unable to find any direct flights there (though i got one back). i'm taking air tran - whoever found that $49 rate, i'm very jealous!! :earseek: i'm paying $202 round trip, but my flight there stops in atlanta.

We took AirTran in 2003 and were very happy with them. I just booked us for a February trip and was able to get the $49 rate by travelling midweek (Wednesday to Thursday). I also had my choice of times for the flight at that price. We had originally looked at a Saturday to Sunday trip but the best rate they had was $79 each way but all of the best times either had a higher rate or weren't non-stop.

3 adults, 1 child and one lap baby going for $450 total with tax and everything! :jumping4: I checked out the other posts on this board for reviews of AirTran to make sure that they hadn't gone downhill. Most reviews were positive and said that they usually arrive ahead of schedule.

This was an easy decision since the only other non-stop flight I could find was USAir and I wasn't about to risk that.

FYI... Transmeridian Airlines (www.transmeridian-airlines.com) will begin direct service from Lehigh Valley Airport (ABE) to Sanford (SFB) airport beginning next month for $158 round-trip. We plan to use them for our 6/23-7/3 trip. We live half-way between Allentown and Newark but much prefer ABE due to its smaller size and ease of entry/exit, plus lowest price from EWR to MCO is currently $245 on Continental.

Southwest also has direct flights from Philly to MCO. Not all of them are direct, but there are usually 3 or so a day. I flew down in Dec. for $39 each way. Can't beat that!

Lots of new (to me) ideas here. I'll be adding AirTran to my watch list and I'm heading to the TransMeridian right now. We flew USAir out of ABE when they had a 6 am direct, staying at the Red Roof the night before. I'd consider USAir, we flew them last week and they got us and our luggage there and back on time, but they'll have to get the strike issues behind them before I book them again. I investigated SouthWest out of PHL just in case USAir crapped out on us mid-trip and I'll be following them.

Mike, have a great trip. Ours was our best yet but we still didn't get to squeeze Bob J. in. If I can't get Swan or Dolphin at a discount next trip I'll be looking for a moderate and POR will probably be it. Stayed there once and liked it.

Pete W, I looked into the Sanford to WDW trip and found that two one-way car rentals was cheaper than a TownCar if you're in need of a lift to and fro.

I'll have to MapQuest the drive to Newark, I never considered that option. Thanks again everyone. It's never too early to start planning.
