Dinosaur Ride??

That would be hard to describe but I will say, much more intense than I ever imagined, somewhat of a rough ride, but I love it!

It doesn't go very fast, spin, and no drops like a roller coaster might have. It is very jerky and bumpy. You ride in a LanRover and its as if you are driving on untouched land. Occasionally it speeds up a bit but not a lot. You go through some dinosaur scenes. I personally don't think they are scary at all but I have read many posters here say they are scary.

This is my absolute favortie ride in Disney, tons of fun! :thumbsup2

Oooo...my favorite ride. :)

Dinosaur is an EMV ride - enhanced motion vehicle. Picture the motion simulator of Star Tours if it were smaller, and on wheels, and you can get an idea of how it works.

While the track is actually rather flat, the vehicle (a jeep called a "time rover") jerks around like there are bumps and pits in the road, and one could classify it as "rough". It's rougher in the back than in the front, like most motion simulators.

There are no spins, but several sharp turns. I think the maximum speed is something ridiculous like 5 or 9 MPH (anyone have the exact figure?) but because of the motion simulation it "feels" like it's faster. But definately not roller-coaster fast.

As to the rest of the experience, it's pretty intense. That's why I love it. :) You run around in this time rover chasing after, and being chased by, big scary dinosaurs, many of whom are trying to eat out. It's rather loud, and you come pretty close to several very scary dinos.

Great ride - you should try it at least once, even if you wimp out and keep your eyes closed. ;)

A CM at this ride over the summer told it moves slowly but seems faster because of the motion. He said you can ride your bike faster. It's awesome and somwhat scary because it's dark and the dinosaurs are loud. A very cool ride. My DD, 6, loves it so it can't be that scary.

Scary, scary ride!! I guess I should say intense! I ride most of it with my eyes closed and I am 39!! My DD16 rode it for the first time last year and liked it, but was also scared. Mainly of the huge dianosaurs that seem to come down into your car. They also seem so close to the sides that neither of us want to ride on the outside seats. We make DH do that and some other unsuspecting person that might be with us. I still havent let my DS11 or DD7 ride this. Nightmare city later. Last time we rode there was a poor kid behind us that was about 8 or 9 and the kid kept crying, but there was nothing the parents could do about it then. I felt so bad for him. Pictures at the end are always funny. I always have my eyes closed and are leaning in to the middle of the car.

I guess 'intense' and 'startling' would be good words for it. There are things that happen suddenly and unexpectedly and it is very dark (except for when the dinos sort of lean out of the darkness to try to eat you). You are 'looking' for a specific dino, so your jeep slows down to 'look' when you get to a dino and when you see 'dangerous' ones, you speed up suddenly to get away.
As the others said, it is very rough, it's mostly very dark and dinos sort of 'jump' out ahead of you. So, if you (or your kids) might consider that scary, then be prepared to be scared.

You gave a very accurate description, Sue in MN! :thumbsup2 DD13 likes to ride this over and over again. It scared the whoopies out of me though! :scared:

We rode it in 2001, and it didn't seem as dark back then. Also, the dinos seem to come closer to the vehicle now. It is probably just my imagination.

I loved it. My son did not like it at ALL! I thought it was more intense than EE. I will definitely do it next trip.

When you say it is like the motion simulator in other rides is it anything like Soarin or Body Wars ?? I am asking all these questions because I think this ride sounds really cool but I am slightly prone to motion sickness in rides like Body Wars. So I wasn't sure if there were motion simulator screens in this ride like those?

I kept my eyes shut during 95% of it. From what I saw, there was alot of big dinosaurs and colored lights. It is over pretty quick so I say go for it once without kids. I had my DD covering her eyes through the whole thing. We looked at the picture at the end of the ride and my DD was covering her face and I was cowering (spelled soo wrong) over her with my eyes shut. We so should have bought it. :thumbsup2

It's not like Soarin' or Body Wars in the sense that there's a screen in front you. This is an actual ride. You get in a car and look for the dinosaur as others have mentioned. It's a great ride. My little sister (7) was scared to death on the ride last year. I'm 25 and it still gets me at the end!

To try to explain a little more.
Body Wars (and also Star Tours) is a self contained theater where the movie is projected on a screen on the front wall of your theater and then the whole theater moves up, down, and side to side in relation to things happening on the screen. Your theater doesn't move out of its spot, but moves around a lot in that spot (kind of like if you stand with your feet in one spot, but crouch down and stand back up, lean from side to side and lean forward and back - fast).

Soarin' has open theater cars that are suspended from the ceiling in front of a big movie screen. Just as the movie is starting, the ride cars move up and forward so the screen in directly in front of you. The cars move in a much more gentle motion in relation to what is happening on the screen. But, they still are just moving around while staying in the same space.

The trams on Dinosaur are on a track, so you are moving forward in space and seeing real things (as real as fake dinos can be) as you go by them. Besides moving forward on the track, the ride cars have the same sort of motions that Body Wars and Star Tours have. So the cars are raised up and down and tilted back and forth to make it seem like you are driving over rough 'untamed' terain.

Dinosaur scares the pooh: outta me!! It's a fun ride, but the dinos scare me. If it didn't have the dinos, or even just the plant-eating dinos, I'd be fine. You have to try it, you can always shut your eyes and duck your head into the person next to you, as long as you know them. ;)

And request a seat not in the front, unless you want a realistic experience. It's a much more intense ride in the front because it seems like you're really there. If you see someone's head infront of you, you realize its just a ride. Atleast that's the way my mind works. :)

The attraction is loud, pretty dark, I do not think it is intense, but a child or elderly person certainly may. The ride is jerky at times and the very end is terribly frightening. That is when I close my eyes. :teeth:

Yep, good description. I think this is the most intense ride at Disney overall not because of the rides movements, but because of the dinosaurs, how close they are to you and very loud roaring, strobe effects, etc.
