Dinosaur- how scary??

The rides whips you around in your car and its loud and dark and scary and I laughed so much the first time I rode it. It one of my absolute favorites. On the other hand My ds who was 7 his first time was petrified. If he really LOVES dinos make sure he realizes what he's in for. :earsgirl:

I didn't read all the posts, but just wanted to let you know that my son--4years old--hated it and it really upset him. He liked everything else at DW and he loves dinosaurs---but this was way too overwhelming for him and he was shaking when it was over. I wish I could take it back---just wanted to spare you that if I could. :guilty:

We kinda forced DD8 on this ride, as did the family behind us... we had watched the sequence on the travel channel, so she knew what to expect, but when faced with getting ON the ride, she freaked, and cried, so I had her put her head in 'daddy's lap" and keep her eyes SHUT!! (Hey, it worked for POTC, after 4 times she finally opened her eyes, and loved Pirates!! lol, but only after we promised she could keep her eyes closed!! :rotfl: )

Now I agree with all the posters, its intense, its LOUD< its shaky, its all the hydraloics on the "Jeep" and definately a "how'd they do that?!!" you cant imagine how it "feels" like a roller coaster moving FAST down, then up, then jerks you, and your moving fast again!! I thought it was cool, and it feels as if the dinosaurs are going to JUMP OUT AT YOU... they dont, but it feels as such...

when we got off the ride the kids behind us were so ANGRY (and one was just sobbing, both had red eyes from crying too) with their parents, what they said was so funny (not that I can remember) dd just said, "I just kept my eyes closed, so I'm ok!!" lol

HM is a walk in the park compared to Dinosaur. On HM, the buggies go on a very predictible track, and once you go through the cemetary scene once, you know that nothing is going to jump out at you. On Dinosaur, you have no idea what's going to happen next. It's very bumpy and jerky and feels out of control. To me, the dinos are VERY realistic, and most of them are not the nice plant eating ones!

I last went on Dino five years ago with my sister and my mom. We rode twice, and each time we all were screaming, huddling together, and covering our faces by that final scare at the end of the ride. That said, I am still excited to be visiting AK and riding Dino on my next trip...but I have already "called" an inside seat!

I do not recommend that your son ride Dinosaur if he is afraid of HM. Are you going to Epcot? Universe of Energy has a much tamer, albeit less realistic, dinosaur section.

Hey!, whaddaya mean, the dinosaurs in UoE are not as realistic??? :earboy2: :teeth: :rotfl:

This ride is almost purely psychological. The actual jerky motion of the vehicles doesn't create the adrenaline rush - it's the very deft use of darkness and shrouded light the Imagineers employ to push the story forward that really makes this ride what it is.

If you're someone who has more trouble listening to a scary Halloween story than careening through a ride like Test Track, then Dinosaur really isn't for you. If it's the other way around... I would say go for it!
