Still trying to decide if we want to use DDP. Is there any saving by using DDP or paying for our meals. Such as an example. Is DDP discounted?

The premise behind the dining plan is that you save money by having it. However, you have to know how to use it to realize the savings. You also have to look at the way you eat. I always get the dining plan when I go to WDW so that I save money, but I'm also ok with pre-planning my meals. Most of the menus can be found on allears.net. Take a look at the prices for the different restaurants and the dining plan brochure on the WDW website to see if the plan is for you.

Depends entirely on what/where you eat and what you would eat if you weren't on the plan.

Plan meals include desserts, for example, which you may or may not order if you were just paying for food.

For most people, I would say - and definitely for our usual group - it doesn't really save us anything (maybe 5%) but we like the prepay-no thinking thing. Of course, when it's "free", it saves us a little bit more sometimes, especially when we do character meals and such.

Here is a thread about tipping. It may help you out! You can also go to all ears and get an idea of how much meals are going to cost and that may help you figure out the tip as well. Good luck!

Tips are NOT included in DDP except for the dinner shows and Cinderella's Royal Table.

Detailed information on tipping is in the linked tipping thread, which is where all discussion of tipping takes place on the Restaurant boards.

There are no actual discounts on the dining plan itself. There is a "free dining" package available sometimes, which means you get a free dining plan for your stay if you purchase a package reservation with a full price room and at least 2 day tickets. Which plan you get free depends on the level of resort you book.

A few years back, DDP included tip. The last handful of years, tip is NOT included. Tax IS included in DDP. With DDP, you can order high price entrees, or more modest entrees. Doesn't matter -- any listed entree will be covered. So with DDP you might feel that you can order entrees you would hold back on if paying out of pocket. In that way you can consider DDP as a savings vs. OOP. Your dining receipts will show suggested tip amounts based on tip percentage. Tip is calculated on meals/drinks subtotal before tax.
