Hi, we just got our SW/BG annual passes & are headed 2/13 to 2/14 but haven't been to SW in years. DS is 6. We were thinking that the Kenny Rogers concert is going to be so crowded that we might hit some of the rides then. But I thought Valentine's Day & I would like to do something nice for DH & DS & thought about dinner with Shamu. They have a 3:30 pm reservation online for passport members & with the discount while a little pricey, I thought going to TGIF in Orlando cost me $90 last time we were in Orlando so dinner with Shamu sounds like fun & not really a bad deal at all. Any one done this? Is the food any good ? Is is serve yourself buffet style ? & how is the whole Shamu experience ? What happens ? Thanks & I really really would appreciate any input ! :cheer2:

Hi there,
We did the Dine with Shamu experience last time we went to sw and we would all highly recommend it.
It was really good. My DD was 10 at the time and she was so excited to be so close to the whale.
The whale we had was Tillikum and he did a few behaviours and swam round only a few feet away from us.
The food was really nice. It was buffet style and you could go up as many times as you like.
The trainers also came round to talk to everyone and my DD got all their autographs. They were so friendly and would spend as much time as you wanted with you answering loads of questions.
Really good experience that was well worth the money.
I would post some pictures but I don't know how to.
If you want to pm me your email i will send them to you that way.
If you have any specific questions ask away and i'll be happy to try and answer them for you.
:)

Well I'll let you know. The only time slot we had was 3:30 pm which is fine since we're going with DS & don't want to rush to see Shamu Rocks later that night. So I'm hoping that since Kenny Rogers is on at 4:00 pm & the Budwiser Barbeque event is going it won't be too full for the Shamu dining. We really are looking forward to seeing the whale upclose & not so much the trainer interaction. I'd be nice to get DS a pix with one of the trainers though. I'll let everyone know how it went ! :woohoo:

Thank you, could you also let me know if they still include the photo+if you still get priority seating for the show after.

Hope you have a lovely time+i would love to see Kenny Rodgers.x.

bumping this- we are going on 3/26 for dinner- would love to hear more reviews thanks

Snowy, I think what you may have done was what they used to call Backstage Stage At Believe. They don't have that anymore (at least the last time I was there). It's been replaced by more Dine With Shamu times. It doesn't have the reserved seat for the Believe show but you do get the Shamu demo while you're eating the buffet. The price went up a bit to $42 and $22 (kids). The buffet seemed the same to me (good).

I just booked this yesterday for next weekend. All three time slots were open for our party of six. I chose 6 pm thinking it would be good since it is dinner time. We want to see Shamu rocks so maybe I should have gone for a different time

Here we go :

Pros : Before they sit you you have an area where you get beer, soda & see the underwater tank, very cool !
Food was really good, desserts yummy & the kids buffet a big plus !
Free Beer !! Yeii & soda coffee etc
Trainers very friendly & gave their presentation
You get a great family pciture at the entrance & ready when you leave !
Friendly staff & good service !
I'm glad we did it ! For the money it was a great experience
It was my DS anniversary from being released from NICU & the waitress brought over a big piece of cake, very sweet of her

Cons: No trainer interaction with guests
Seating is very close to other tables. DH did not like this at all. We are pooh sized & even if you are a skinny minny you will have trouble getting through the tables.
I saw the whale & it was great but somehow I expected more up close
No fans, the sun was in our eyes, brings hats. All they could do was roll down a shade & then roll it up when the show started.
I sat on the outer ring which helped to see better but the sun was in my DS eyes & he kept complaining (so he used DH cap) & if you are a passport member make sure they put your number down. They asked me when I made my reservation.

I would recommend it definitely. Great value & a nice experience ! Any questions ???

We actually did the Dine with Shamu on Feb 7th. It was a 6 pm ressie, and Shamu Rocks was at 7:30. You first go to the underwater viewing area for a complimentary drink and picture! After that you make your way up to the dining area, and are seated for supper. Your drinks are included, ( Bud Lime was awesome!) You have to ask for them though, they don't bring them to willingly.
Now the supper was wonderful, great food, and yes you get to see the whale up close, my kids got splashed a few times. I do have to say, we did feel very rushed! We sat to eat at just after 6 pm, and then they started at about 6:45 over the intercom about "this venue will be closing soon" So you feel like you have to leave. Anyhow, the trainers didn't come to our table, and we also had Tillicum the whale, and he wasn't co-operating well with the trainers at all, and you could tell the trainers were frustrated. By about 7 pm, the announcement came out, "this venue is now closed" please make your way to the exit!
Don't get me wrong it was a good experience, but I think it could have been better. I am a true lover of Sea World, and prefer it over Disney any day, but our Sea World experience this year, was not a good one. Not the park itself, but things beyond peoples control. The day we were there was the first day of Bud & Q, the first day back with Dine with Shamu in 2 months they said, and the first night for Shamu Rocks since Xmas. So bad timing on our part I guess.
We then made our way to Shamu Rocks as we have never seen this show yet, and man the atmosphere was awesome, to bad the show wasn't. We could tell as soon as the whales were let out, something wasn't right. There were six whales in the pool at once, and they were sticking together like glus, and swarming the pool, ignoring the trainers signals all together. Finally a senior trainer came out, with a very long montage, about their whales, and the interaction, and how they use positive behaviour, and they respect the whales decision of not wanting to interact with them. It seems right now, there are 8 whales total, and they had 2 pods, each with one dominant male, the pods were created on there own, however the whales decided. It was split 5 & 3. Now for some reason a 6th one has come to the 5 pod, and there is a fight for the dominate male. The trainers said, they have to respect the whales, and what they are battling out, and they can't get in the water with them while they are doing that(don't blame them)
Anyhow, so that show pretty much didn't happen. We went back 4 days later, for our last day, and decided to catch the 11:30 am Believe Show, my sister and bro in law were with us to catch it for the first time, and you knew as soon as it got started it wasn't going as expected as well. We say Believe twice last year and could tell, there was something wrong. Anyhow, low and behold, the trainer came out, and started with the same montage as mentioned above. I felt so bad for people that may only have that one chance to watch the show. I hope they get the kinks worked out, it was very disappointing, but that is the chance you take watching animal shows.
If anyone is there in the next couple of days, I would be curious to know if the whales started co-operating or not.
Good luck, and happy travels!

We are going Sat and possibly Fri of this week. We'd planned on Fri for Aquatica but the weather looks like it might be a tad bit cool for swimming even for us yankees! I really hope the show goes well. I also didn't realize they only give you a set amt of time for dinner.

We were just there yesterday and saw all of the shows. The only animal that refused to perform was a condor in one of them. Click here for our report on the dinner with Shamu. We did the last one of the day, and at the end of the show/trainer interaction they played a recording that basically said it was over and to leave ASAP. That didn't seem to hurry anyone tho'. We were done eating by then, but DH lingered over coffee a bit before we left.

Sounds like you had a great time-just a few minors though.
It's a shame the trainers don't come to your table anymore-that seemed a nice touch.
But all in all you would say 'deffinatley try it once' ?.
It seems that the price has risen but the benefits have dwindled slightly.Did you not get preferred seating for the show after?.(i thought ths was another 'perk').
I want to book the 6pm dinner so hopefully the sun won't be as strong by then.
What is Yeii?.How did your photo come out?.What was your table number?.
Thanks for sharing.x.

I have just read your report+thouroughly enjoyed it,this deffinatley does sound like a must do-if only the once. What was your table number?.x.

well Tillikum is the only Male. Usually the FEMALES are dominant males like tilly are on the (LOW end)..lol. I assume Kayla and Katina again.. this happened before a Believe show when i was there. You have to remember that all animals have their moods so sometimes the shows wont go to well.. I assume the male (Tillikum) knew that the females were fighting in the other pool. Well their just like us having bad show days.. Well hugs hopefully you have a better experience next time :)

The picture came out great ! I thought that was such a bonus that the minor quircks didn't matter. It's hard to get a shot of us 3 & that it was included in the price. We had table 29. Next to lagoon just that whale came to the middle section & we were just a tad to the side. Since we were at 3:30 pm we did not get preferred seating for any show. I would definitely try it once. My DH loved the food so much he wants to go back. We're headed back to SW in April but I think I want to try the Luau.

Thanks for replying, the reason i asked your table number was to try+see where it was in comparrison to mine-but they never gave it too me when i booked :confused3 ,as i know some people where given their numbers.

I booked mine for April a 6pm sitting-i am so looking forward to it.I have'nt told the girls yet, will do so on holiday as we have other surpises for them as well.
Did your picture come with like a frame or in a souvenir folder etc..also was it with the whale,or just a background drop?.Thanks again-sorry to ask more questions.x.

No whale or character in the pix. It's a nice background, real foliage, bushes, trees from the area before you enter the dining area so no fixed background. Came out very natural but I would of liked Shamu in a Chef's hat but that's just me ! LOL :rotfl: On the corner it has imprinted "dine with Shamu Seaworld" & on the bottom left the date. No frame, just a folder. Then I went to pick up my pix that DS & I took with Shamu around the parkm I asked if they carried a frame for Dine with Shamu that would fit & I bought a cool one with Shamus all over for $14.99. But you can easily get a frame anywhere. I wanted the Seaworld frame because the pix while very nice I like to get the frames I can only get in the parks that seem to match (my logic) . Also if you are celbrating anything special for the kiddies tell the hostess & they will bring over a huge slice of cake with gummy whales all over ! So cute ! Have fun !!

Table number 18. We loved it...right in front of one of the areas where a whale and trainer do their thing. I tried to take photos to show how close they were, but it was dark so they didn't come out.
