Dinner shows - good for adults?

Anyone tried Spirit of Aloha, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, or Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue? It would just be two adults, but we love kids and wouldn't be annoyed by a show that catered to them. Still, is it any good for adults? How is the food?

Thanks!

I have reservations for Hoop De Doo this August and have heard from many friends that it's just as fun for adults as it is the kids. Hoping other replies to this thread say the same thing, as DH and I are going to kick off an anniversary trip.

Comments on the boards are about 95% positive for HDDR and 70% for SoA. That's people that take the time to say something, so the true numbers are better than that. Those are just my ballpark numbers.

I like both, but would recommend HDDR as your first stop. You could check out YouTube for videos, or perhaps you have questions?

Both are fine for adults (children of all ages). HDDR has guaranteed laughs. SoA is a nice evening, more of a "dinner show".

children alike.

NOTE: BBQ is held in an open air environment (roof,
but no sides. Price was raised to make it a 2-TS meal, but
the quality remains less than a 1-TS value. Some folks like
it for the kids, but we believe it is best no attended.

Our Ratings of Luau:

NOTE: The Luau is a play upon the traditional Hawaiian or
Pacific luau. However, the "play" is silly at best and sub-par
when compared to any authentic luau. If you never plan upon
attending a true luau, then this would suffice. If you have done
a real luau, or will in the future, leave this unattended.

I have only been to HDDR. It's a great show. I have seen it twice.

Not sure if I will go again this year or not-haven't picked the restaurants yet.

Been to all 3! I would do HDDR first, Mickeys Backyard BBQ next and would never do SoA again. We LOVE HDDR and go every other year! It is good food, entertaining and just leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy! :goodvibes

We've been a group of 3 adults and have done both SoA and HDDR (twice). SoA was alright, but kind of dragged on and the food wasn't very good.

HDDR on the other hand had great food, service, and the show was a kick. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a fun night out, enjoy unlimited beer or sangria, and have a love for fried chicken, ribs, and strawberry shortcake. :thumbsup2

Wow! Thanks to everyone for their great advice. This was really helpful! I will plan on HDDR -- sounds like a lot of fun! :)

Last trip we were a group of 6 adults 30's - 60's. We all LOVED the HDDR.
It is good "down home cooking" and the show is a hoot.
I will do it again

DH and I did HDDR on an adults-only trip in July 2010 and LOVED IT!! (Can't comment on the others, as HDDR is the only one we've done.) Food was good, loved that beer/wine/sangria was included in the price! :thumbsup2 LOVED the show! Loved it so much that we're planning on doing it WITH the kids on our June trip (on my birthday!!) It's the one thing I requested for my birthday. :goodvibes

Another positive review of the Hoop de Doo review. I went with my 2 boys and loved it! :) It was FUN for all ages!

I have not been to the others, but a good friend of mine did-- they did not like the Luau and it was they that recommended the Hoop de Doo review.

Enjoy!

DH and I (no kids) do HDD every year. I think it is fantastic and so much fun!

I love Hoop de Doo. It's a show for everyone and doesn't cater to kids. If you like silly slapstick humor it won't matter how old you are there. Plus, the booze is included, if you need help getting in the mood for the silly humor. Mickey's BBQ sounds like more of a "kids show" which is why I've never done it, and I can't get excited about the luau so I've never done that either.

I've only been to HDDR but love it and it's a must do for us every trip.:thumbsup2 On this last trip the food wasn't as good as it has been but the show was better than ever. I think I laughed more than the kids.:lmao::rotfl2:

We love Mickey's Backyard BBQ and is the only one we will go to over and over again
