Dinner Seating

Have a few questions about dinner seating:

We are a family of four (2 adults and a 6 and a 2 year old). How does it work at the tables? Can you sit just four together?

If you are at a bigger table to they match you up with similar familes? Children's age, etc?

Can you request just a table for four? Not that we are anti-social or anything.. just want to know.

We are first time cruisers on the 1/24 Magic.

Yes you can sit at a table for four. I would try to arrange that before I got on the ship not wait until you get there. It might be easier for them to change things beforehand, especially if the ship is full.
Yes they do try to seat similar families, so they say, but whenever we have been at a larger table that did not seem to be so. Maybe it was just us.
Oh Yes, and Welcome to the Dis boards, seeing how this is your very first post.

Some of our best times on our cruises have been dinner times. We have always sat with at least one other family usually more. Learning about other people, hearing what they experienced during the day (usually different activities than your own) has been a highlight. We have never had the "tablemates from heck" yet. We look forward to this part of the cruise. Oh yes, and we are a pretty shy family - talking to strangers is NOT what we do. On the cruise we get to practice our social skills.

Although they would probably try to accomodate your request to sit alone, I highly recommend that you give potential dining companions a chance. It is so much fun getting to know other people. Dinnertimes with tablemates were some of our best memories. We have made some good friends that way, and we still keep in touch with our tablemates from both our cruises.

Has any group of 5 gotten their request to sit by themselves honored? Would they give you a table for 6? Thanks. :boat:

They did a 4 top for us as a family of 3 so I am sure if room allowed they would do the same for 5

Thank you for your welcome to the forum. We have not decided to request our own table. In fact we tend to be more social than most. Just wanted to know what our options were.

The kids are so excited they can't contain themselves. They watch the DCL promo video at least five times a day!

I would suggest that you find a family with kids around the same ages as yours on the cruise thread for your sailing date. We did that & had a wonderful time! DS already knew the names of his new friends when we boarded the ship & the kids all hit it off. They got along so well that the adults were able to talk & enjoy our dinners.

We were a 4 and have done it both ways. The first time we were seated with another 3 - whose last name was the same.. so it was done alphabetically in our case. they were an older couple with their young granddaughter (so didn't match our ages or our kids ages). While others have had great luck with table mates, we did not.. ours always arrived late and the waiters didn't serve anything but bread until they came so we were late getting to shows, etc., after dinner each night. This was when the cruise was fairly new so maybe they do a better job of matching groups now.

The next time we requested a table alone and got it (we requested it before we went, not onboard).

It's just my wife and I so you can take this with a grain of salt.

Our two cruises we took our chances with who Disney put at our table. We have not been disappointed. As a matter of fact some of them have remained close contacts. Meal times were fun and sometimes we even met up for other activities. Our next cruise two of the people we sat with last time are coming back also and we plan to seat at the same table again; with someone new to fill in.

Take a chance!
